  1. anybody seeing the mountain goats tonight at the metro?
  2. I've listened to Challengers twice now In terms of sound it is maybe very slightly more acoustic/mellow than any other album of theirs, but in terms of quality, its not a progression from twin cinema, but it is right on par with the rest of their work
  3. "Challengers" the New Pornographers upcoming album has leaked I've got it downloaded, but I won't be able to listen to it until later tonight I don't know how many sources there are of this leak, but it was sent to me from my brother, who got it from the ateaseweb.com (a radiohead fansite) message board so if you're interested I would search around there
  4. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 12:40 AM) Their first album "Alligator" is less of a mood album than Boxer is. If you want it, PM me and we can figure out a way to get an MP3 copy in your iTunes. I was going to say the exact same thing and just for the sake of accuracy, alligator isn't their first album
  5. animal collective is playing the Vic theatre september 10th that will hopefully be a good show, assuming their new album is any good
  6. QUOTE(bmags @ May 29, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) found out i can't go to p4k. that sucks, maybe next year some of the same artists will come back, or sonic youth will continue to play daydream nation in its entirety
  7. I decided to extend my pitchfork pass too all 3 days, instead of just the friday, the lineup is just looking too good to me
  8. didn't gaudin dominate us in oakland as well?
  9. QUOTE(bmags @ May 22, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) just nails on a chalkboard to me. only for like the first 20 seconds
  10. QUOTE(bmags @ May 22, 2007 -> 12:52 AM) boy do i loathe in the backseat. really why? once I got over the fact that Regine was singing, I really like it, and it makes for a nice dramatic closer
  11. QUOTE(bmags @ May 18, 2007 -> 10:20 AM) oh man national are great. Alligator was tops. Boxer is much better in my opinion anyways I saw the Arcade Fire last night, and it was absolutely everything I hoped it would be. They played every single song I wanted to hear, the band was in great form and very energetic, Win's voice is in good shape, the crowd was great, I would say it is only the second show I've ever been to (out of 20 or so) that I have ever been 100% satisfied with If any of you have a chance to go tonight or tomorrow I would do it, it will be a great show. here's the setlist (I think this is exact order, or very close to it) 1 Black Mirror 2 Keep The Car Running 3 Antichrist Television Blues 4 No Cars Go 5 Haiti 6 Neighbourhood #2 (Laika) 7 Intervention 8 Neon Bible 9 My Body Is A Cage 10 Windowsill 11 The Well And The Lighthouse 12 Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out) 13 Rebellion (Lies) ENCORE I: 14 Ocean Of Noise 15 Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels) ENCORE II: 16 In The Backseat
  12. QUOTE(bmags @ May 16, 2007 -> 02:09 AM) i find more laughable the now backlash for wilco as if they were always this just average band that tried desperately to advance past their own limitations, like some simon birch playing baseball moment, and now everyone just sees they're true colors. It's all absurd, pitchfork puts so much damn pressure on bands they built up themselves (not that they did to wilco) to deliver exactly what they want, usually albums that aren't too popular to get wide appeal but not too experimental to where its like, they are trying to hide in the limelight. It's all so funny and absurd and people are actually influenced by it. And the f***ing point system, ha. Yes, lily allens album is better than wilco's despite having only 2 nice pop songs on it. By two whole points. My opinion has changed. "The artistic failure or success of Sky Blue Sky should not be evaluated on the scale of how progressive it is, but I fear it will be, which is a shame because the album is solid in accomplishing its own objectives. " This guy from PopMatters is right in line with you
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 15, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) Well it's a series now. Defend your home court and anything can happen in game 7. But game 3 haunts me more and more by the game....where was Tyrus in game 3 coach? If he hadn't been MIA that night, it might be 3-2 Bulls right now. I disagree, I think if we won game 3, we would have lost game 4, or atleast game 5 I think going down 0-3 made the bulls relax because they stopped trying to do to much, relaxed and started playing their game knowing they have nothing to lose. This coinciding with the Pistons relaxing thinking they had it locked up, and now we have a series. I think if the Pistons lost a game earlier they would have maintained a high level of play, and this series would be over
  14. my dad and brother are at the game, I feel bad for them having to wait this out
  15. QUOTE(bmags @ May 15, 2007 -> 03:20 PM) I think reading that awful review should tell you how little you should care. Mitchum is such a bumbling idiot in all his reviews. thats true, the guy seems disappointed based on his own expectations of potential, not the songs themselves, which I think are good
  16. I've been listening to the album for two months I had an initial wave of disappointment because I felt like they didn't fulfill their potential as a band, but eventually I've come around and realized its a nice record
  17. Ouch, pitchfork gives Sky Blue Sky only a 5.4 thats insulting, the album maybe doesn't live up to expectations or potential, but its not bad
  18. Anyone listened to the Menomena album called "Friend and Foe" that came out earlier this year, its great
  19. bmags, how long has your avatar been the album cover to "Spiderland" I just noticed it now
  20. QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 06:00 PM) how anyone could think g-unit could be compared to wutang is beyond me. I know no one who follows rap that thinks highly of g-unit, just a few scattered who like Lloyd Banks. Its not even a serious conversation. Wu-tang has tons of classic albums b/w the group and solos...what does g-unit have...1? no contest. I am not a fan of rap at all, but I enjoyed listening to Liquid Swords Wu-Tang is much better
  21. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 12:51 AM) I've really dug Kings of Leon lately. I've seen them open for U2 and Bob Dylan, and thought they sucked each time
  22. Pitchfork announced the other two bands to perform albums in their entirety with sonic youth during the pitchfork festival they are: Slint: Spirderland GZA: Liquid Swords
  23. great win hopefully the run keeps going tomorrow
