QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) My take, FWIW: Texas is tough, although I like the Sox' chances against Texas pitching. Both Cincy and St. Lou seem pretty beatable right now. Houston is picking it up a bit right now, and might get up for a "rematch" against the World Champs. I think the Sox will be all right. The good thing about Texas is that they are under .500 at home. Thier pitching is better on the road. Agree with Cincy and Cards. With Poo-holes on the DL they become beatable. With Houston, all I am going to say is "Lidge".

SoxFanInDallas replied to kapkomet's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My father in law has season tix to Stars Rangers Mavericks Thankfully, he does not have Cowboys tix. IT is bad enough that I am being forced to spend Thanksgiving there this year. Oh, the humanity! Go Bears! -

Roll Call for Texas Series, in Arlington
SoxFanInDallas replied to kapkomet's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I will be there Wednesday evening. I may try to convince my wife to go Monday as well. But tonight, I am going to the NBA Finals! Yipee! I never got to go to a Bulls Finals, so this will have to do! -
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ May 24, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) I'm pretty sure from what I remember they don't have the roast beef sandwich that is availble in right field on the bottom deck. No roast beef=Terrible food As long as they have the grilled hot dogs and polish 'WITH', then I am set!

If Ozzie wins the All-star game, that is only 3 games in the situation.........It only took 4 games last year

QUOTE(BFirebird @ May 24, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Yup....no tacos in the UD. I think everything else is upstairs. How did you get your tix? If you got them off a season ticket holder, you can go downstairs. (At least that is what my uncle who has upper deck season tix told me).

Who is your favorite player from 80's, 90's, and 00's?
SoxFanInDallas replied to SoxFanInDallas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Drew @ May 16, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) 1980s- Harold Baines, Ozzie Guillen, Carlton Fisk 1990s- Robin Ventura 2000s- Paul Konerko A couple of favorite players I had as a kid growing up in the 80s weren't White Sox. My family lived in KC for about a year, the time I was old enough to start Little League and really begin to understand the game. George Brett may well have been the mayor of Kansas City back then. He was a great guy, and I love the way he played the game. He was easy to admire. On the off chance I didn't get marooned in right field (where you knew no one would ever hit it and you couldn't play with just eight guys), I played second base, because that's where you put a shrimpy kid who could field well but didn't hit for a lot of power and couldn't make the throws from across the diamond. And that was me when I was about eight. Ryne Sandberg was the best, he did it all. Or at least a lot better than Julio Cruz or Tim Huelett. Current favorite: A.J. Pierzynski, closely followed by Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, and Joe Crede. What I love about this team is that there are so many guys that are likable, and play the game admirably. I grew up in Chicago and was a HUGE White Sox fan, but for some reason I also liked KC. I really liked George Brett also, but like Fred Patek as well. My dad would take me to Sox - Royals games and I would bring both hats to get autographs. One of the Sox players saw me switch my hat from Royals to Sox before asking for an autograph and teased me for awhile before giving me an autograph. -
QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ May 16, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) Matt C. Dude, you've gotta be who I think you are... otherwise the coincidence is unbelievable. Good thing that all my comments about my wife were GOOD, since Matt C. is my cousin. Small world

QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ May 16, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) Never mind then. In case you didn't figure it out, this is Matt. Matt WHO?
-
QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ May 16, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) If your wife's friend is hot, tell her that your cousin Matt will take care of her friend. NO! Your better off staying at home tuning into the Spice Channel!

We have family obligations the next few nights. Plus, a nice dinner would be wasted since she does not have the taste for, or crave, anything but Pizza, bread, and candy! I wish I didn't give up drinking to support her.....I could use a belt about now

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) This has nothing to do with the Cell's seating capacity. The Sox could draw 3.2 million and still have a couple empty seats per game. At about 38k capacity, that would require a SELL OUT of EVERY game, plus some! 38K sell-out is just above 3MM

YOU have low expectations. Sound like my parents! (I keed! I keed!)

I am going to go back to the 70's to start this off: 70's: Eric Soderholm - The 70's didn't produce alot of good baseball, but I met Eric at a Nautilus club as part of an in-store promotion he was doing. I don't know if you remember him, but he had Rock Raines type thighs at the time. He gave me a demonstration on a machine and had me do it too. 80's: Harold Baines - He is my all time favorite. Probably because he came up through the farm system and he was their biggest star at the time. I did get to meet him in the '90's when I worked in the United Center. I was a dessert cart pusher and worked the owners suite all the time. The White Sox team was in the suite one day and Tom Pacoriak (sp?) was at the cart and asked if I was a fan. Stupid question, and I went on about Harold being my favorite of all times. Next thing I know, he is yelling "Hey Harry, there is someone here you have to meet!". There I am shaking his hand, tongue tied, etc. He offered his autograph, but I am not a big autograph hound, so I politely declined saying I was not allowed to as part of the job. Fisk is second for the 80's. Early 90's: Fisk and BlackJack. I was always impressed by Fisk's work ethic. Blackjack was the rebel and I really liked that! Maybe because I was in my 20's at the time. Late 90's: Mike Carusso (JUST KIDDING). MAGS! I just like the chant (Oh-EEEE-OH----Maglio!) 00's: Paul Konerko. Again, the hard work ethic. Plus, watching him run the bases reminds me of ME!

Well, Some of those teams are going to outdraw the Sox because they have bigger stadiums. Everyone b****ed about the upper deck, so in order to fix it, we lost seats. Seats I bet some people would not be complaining about today. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Obviously, anything less than another ring would be a disappointment. Realistically, though, I expect 90+ wins and another trip to the playoffs. I also expect at least 2.8 million butts in the seats this year so that our team will be financially-able to take several more shots at the WS in years to come. There's no reason that smaller markets like Atlanta, St. Louis, and San Francisco should out-draw a Chicago baseball team that's coming off of a championship.

I did a search on 8 seats together, best available. They gave me 8 seats in their BEST section all in the same row. Pretty sad! QUOTE(knightni @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) It's a shame that a city as nice as Tampa has their players play in a 40K seat meat locker.

I agree. The only expectation coming into this year was to win the division and maybe get home field throughout. After that, anything can happen. You just want to put yourself in the best position possible come playoff time. QUOTE(The Critic @ May 16, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) My only expectation is that the Sox will be in contention for the division title. After that, everything is kind of a crapshoot. Breaks, luck, the stars aligning, whatever you want to call it. I just want them to get back into the playoffs. Things will take care of themselves after that.

QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ May 16, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) simple ask her to go and say that she can bring her friends to the game. Update: I did ask yesterday and she seemed cold to the idea. Today, she sent me an email asking the time of the game and said she left a message for her friend about going to the game. So, you just might be the winner!

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 16, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) How pregnant are we talking here?? 3.5 months....just starting to show!

I need some realistic ideas on how to convince my 'pregnant' wife to go to the Sox-Devil Rays game on Thursday. Background: We are flying in that day for a wedding over the weekend. Thursday night is the ONLY day we will be visiting with her friend, and the rest of the weekend is with my family. And, my wife is pregnant, so I have to be nice to her If one of you suggests a winning idea that convinces her to go to the game, I will send you a sixer of Shiner Bock....the best damned beer in Texas.
