  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) That's not the problem, being we have a top 5 league salary IIRC. Yeah? But how do you explain the approach to FA this year? Miss out on TH because outbid. Miss out on Rowand because don't want to pay that kind of money. Trade Garland to free up cash to sign TH, but still don't get him. The payroll is because of past spending, but I guarantee you they are thinking 'We spent a lot of money in the past. We need to reign things in this year.'
  2. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) With Rowand and Fukodome off the market, the Sox two possible free agent targets are gone. So the question is, where do the sox go from here? Make some trades and get the likes of coco crisp, etc. I think most wil agreee that will do little good. We can't blow up this team and trade away our veterans for young talent. Too many no-trade clauses, big contracts and decling talent to go that route. I know the signing of Fuko and/or Rowand probably would not have turned the Sox into a legitimate contender, but now where does KW turn? How the hell do we get out of this mess and be able to compete in a couple of years? Maybe we can trade Beurhle to the Rangers for Milton Bradley.
  3. I am getting tired of this 'Small Market Team' mentality while being in a 'Large Market'. Our outfield has bigger gaps in it than David Letterman's front teeth. And why? Because the White Sox act as if they are Kansas City, Tampa Bay, and Florida. Thank God I don't have the chance to listen to Chicago Sports Talk. I could not bear to have to hear the constant bad news with the White Sox not signing anyone on top of the Bears pitiful season. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHH
  4. QUOTE(RudyLawRules @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) It's time to dust off the '05 World Series DVDs!! I still get chills watching them and they will help numb the pain. I'll just go upstairs and stare at my framed Sun-Times pages Game 4 WS tix and just remember the joy of being there. Then my wife will call for me, I will come out of my dream world and realize that it is back to "Wait 'til next year....and the year after that....and...."
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) Only if the Sox have the highest offer. From what I have read, he seems disapointed that he does not have a HUGE national recognition. He is nationally recognized, but not to the extent he would like to be. That is due to being on a small market club. So, I think that gives Chicago and LA an edge. But, the wildcard is Texas. He lives only 45 minutes from the Ballpark in Arlington. That in itself could be an incentive.
  6. Jones. His career bad year was really only bad in terms of average. His Defense picked up and he still put up good HR and RBI totals. I see him back to his norm next season. Plus, he is younger than Hunter. Besides, I am currently residing in Texas so having Jones a Sox and Hunter a Ranger would work nicely for me.
  7. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) First of all, Garland was NOT homegrown. Brought in from the Cubs for Matt Karchner. Second, don't forget Mike Hampton's contract. Yikes. If you want to get technical. But if a guy comes in a trade and spends more time in that minor league org than the original, it really is the same thing. He spent 1.5 seasons with Cubs in the minors and spent 2.5 with the White Sox. picky picky
  8. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) If people like Gil Meche are getting 5/55 on the market, I'd much rather use KW/JR's strategy of developing our own pitchers and trading for guys that other teams are trying to unload (Garcia, Vazquez, Contreras, etc.). So, the sox homegrow Buehrle and Garland, and will eventually lose both. They develop those guys and when they get to their primes, cut-and-run. This is a good strategy? How many more guys didn't work out as homegrown talent. You have to hold onto the ones that do work out. I liked getting Garcia and Contreras, but Vazques is a bust. And , Garcia is already gone.
  9. QUOTE(Adam G @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) Mike Hampton did not and Barry Zito has not yet worked out well with their long term deals. One of my old profs from law school used to do a lot of work for Reinsdorf and Einhorn back in the early 90's. Apparently their philosophy is that it's not the dollars that kill you in a contract, it's the years. If they gave Buehrle five years (which they will not, sadly), it would be an extreme exception to their rule. Here are a few that have worked out: Roy Oswalt Roy Halladay (He signed a 3 year extension before '06 season to give him 5 years from that signing) Maybe if Mark changed his name to Roy!
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) Um, Gil Meche signed a five-year deal as well. And I'd take Vazquez over him in a second. That was my mistake. But, it supports my case more. If Gil "effin" Meche can get a 5 year deal, what is the deal with the White Sox? MB is a much better pitcher. The market warrents 5 year deals for pitchers of his quality. If KC is stupid enough to bring up Meche to that level, it's going to drive the whole market that way. We can't rely on ONLY keeping pitchers during their arbitration and before years (Danks) and players other teams are trying to dump (Vazquez)
  11. I really don't understand this reluctance for giving a pitcher a 5-year deal. Granted, there is a big risk if he does not perform. But, the same can be said about a position player. Reinsdorf and Williams have two options: Sign a proven pitcher like MB to a 5 year deal (plus he is a fan favorite) rather than trading him and getting stuck with a 3-year deal and get a Gil Meche quality guy. Guys who suck get 3 year deals in this league now.
  12. Love the new ESPN Sportscenter commercial with Ozzie calling to the bullpen to get Jenks, but the phone call goes to the ESPN control booth.
  13. Funny thing: White Sox had 5 starters (4 from last year) with 30+ starts and 196 or more innings pitched. Still would have won the NL Central walking away. Astros: Two pitchers with 30+ starts and more than 196 innings. Roger Clemens took off over half a season, and the next highest innings pitched is 135. AND, they are barely over .500, spending much of the season under .500
  14. I will reserve judgement until I can find a list of White Sox contracts - i.e. when they expire.
  15. No. They love Michael here it Texas. If they did trade him, it would have to include a prospect pitcher or McCarthy and a hell of a lot better than Uribe to replace him at SS. I have read around here that everybody is available, but MY would cost the most to get.
  16. That has been the source of all my Chicago sports since I left Chicago. The website keeps erroring out. Anyone else experiencing this?
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 08:15 AM) We've been playing like Schlitz since he's been gone. The curse of the Jay? I don't read the on-line Times, only the Trib. Was he fired? Or is he really on vacation for 1 month or more? Or suspended?
  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:34 PM) Now if you're in Dallas, why the heck are you asking about tattoo parlors in Chicago? Just saying. Why? I don't want someone who has never done one or has just seen the logo for the first time. My wife will kill me if I come home with SEX logo rather than Sox. Plus, I will be in Chicago in 2 weeks. I just prefer it be done in Chicago. BTW, have tix for the Tigers game on Saturday I can buy?
  19. I said before the WS that if they won, I would get a Sox tattoo and name my first kid Tadahito. Well, I'm going to forget the second one, but will getting a tattoo of the current logo. Any recommendations of where to go? People who have done Sox logo's that have done a good job? Thanks!
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) To clarify, insurance will insure that the doctor's lifestyle will not be altered because it's the job of insurance to pay out the judgements awarded to those who's lifes have been ruined by misdiagnosis and detramental treatments. Just to clarify MY statement, insurance will NOT always insure that the doctor's lifestyle will not be altered. Example: Doctor has coverage of up to $1,000,000 in damages against them. The Jury awards $2,000,000. The insurance pays $1mm and the doc has to pay the balance. Sorry, but I do not have $1MM sitting in my bank account right now.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) We have a surgeon and a GP in the family. Perhaps that's how things operate in Texas, but you are incorrect about the insurance in the state of Illinois. I know for a fact that Illinois rates are also very high. There are many docs that have left to practice in surrounding states (Wisc./Ind/Mich) becuase the liabilities in Illinois are too high. GP's usually do not run into too many problems with Insurance costs. Surgeons can based on specialty. Docs like OB/GYN's, neurosergeon's, and more risky specialties can not pay the high premiums to get the high levels of coverage. My wife used to practice in Chicago, so I am aware of the issues there as well.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) The proper treatment would have been to have surgery immediately and put him in a boot. They didn't do that, worsening the injury. Yes, they make mistakes. And when they do the right thing to do is to own up to them - which is exactly what I stated. And the spouse has nothing to worry about. Insurance insures their lives wont change one bit. BS about the insurance. What you have to realize is that most doctors have small amount of coverage for the ridiculous amounts that they are sued for. Jury's look at doctors as having unlimited insurance coverage or millions in the bank. THAT IS A FALSEHOOD. Most doctors can't afford the high levels of insurance coverage because people are too 'sue-happy' and jurys love to pour out the cash. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) Well, there is something that is known as "failure to diagnose," which could cause some big problems for sports physicians... There are many times that a diagnosis does not occur in the first appt. Plus, they may have had a diagnosis, but the wrong one. IT HAPPENS. It has happened to me (before I married the Doc). But I did not sue my doctor.
  23. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) "Everything that Steff said, I agree completely" You wouldn't say that if you were the spouse of a Doctor. Besides that, doctors are human. Some are going to make mistakes. If improper treatment led to the worsening of the injury, then there may be some merit. But, if it only delayed the diagnosis, this lawsuit is BS.
  24. QUOTE(zach23 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) Wow, a Susan Powter reference. Just showing my age, like you, my friend!
  25. QUOTE(zach23 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) Actually you just described the problem of modern day sports. Because of the internet and 24 hour sports programming it is harder to enjoy the game now. Every little detail is beaten to death on message boards and sports blab shows. 20 years ago you would simply watch the game and read about it the next day in the paper and that was that. Now every little thing is blown up a discussed to death until people are going crazy. It used to be a lot easier to just watch the game, and either enjoy a win or just deal with the loss until the next day. The bad thing is, the internet is addictive and it is hard to stay away from the insanity. Stop the Insanity
