  1. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ May 12, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) I like trades like A-Rows. We've got a guy who's first in the AL in HR, RBI, and OBP (min 100ab) and they've got a guy who will be a fan favorite and leaves it all out on the field. Both teams won. Trades like this make Kenny an intriguing trading partner. As far as getting him back, I loved A-Row when he was with the Sox, and will always consider him a favorite no matter where he's playing, but I want to see BA patrol CF for several years. I think we've got something special in that kid. I am not questioning the original trade. I was a big fan of it. But, just like the Red Sox did, they can always trade to get back their guy (But I am a realist and know it will not happen. Philly would be nuts to give him up unless they got some major talent back!)
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 12, 2006 -> 08:47 AM) Have you seen the fan reaction to Rowand. The guy is a great player on and off the field. He is exactly what you look for in a fan favorite and leader. His play last night shows why he wont be coming back any time soon. I know! I know! I know! After seeing that play from yesterday, I was just wishing he was still patroling CF in Chicago.
  3. I think we ought to make a move to trade back for Rowand ala Boston getting back Doug Mirabelli. I miss the guy. Hope you feel better Crash!
  4. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 10, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Would an MRI reveal a bulging disc? I've read several stories on Contreras this morning with no mention of a bulging disc. You would think it would be reported somewhere if that really was the case... An MRI CAN reveal a bulging disk, but it may NOT as well. But there are many things that cause the sciatica problem.....muscle inflamation could cause it if the muscle or some other part of the body presses on the the nerve. Or, if it is pushing your back out of alignment, the nerve can get pinched.
  5. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) What do you guys see in your areas? I don't see much WS stuff here in Dallas except at WS-Rangers games. But when I was in Puerto Rico, I had about 5 workers at the resort I was staying at that wanted to either talk White Sox with me, or buy my World Series T-shirt. I wish I had a suitcase full of them, I would have made a killing.
  6. QUOTE(effectivelywild @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) I'm a medical student, so I have a limited knowledge of the syndrome. Sciatica is often caused by inflammation and can clear up in as short of time as a couple of weeks (though it can last for a few months). Most of the time, there is no real need for surgery---I'm assuming the fact that he has been placed on the 15 day DL means it is not a result of a herniated disc, which would be more serious---there are some stretching and physical therapy measures that can be done, as well as some anti-inflammatory treatments. Certainly we should keep an eye on things, but we should wait for news on what treatments are being given, how he responds, etc. Regardless, this blows---Contreras has been lights out and this can be very painful. I have been a sciatica and herniated disk (bulging disk) sufferer for the past 6 years. I didn't do anything specific (injury wise) to cause it. Epidurals work good for a short term and you have to use that time to begin your abs/back training. But, physical therapy, epidurals, etc. do not always work (as is my case). Some days things are great. Others, like today, I am in constant pain. My doctor also told me that if you did an MRI on the whole population, you would likely find about 40-50% of people with a bulging disk. MOST of those people do not feel any symptoms. It is really dependent upon what that disk is touching, impacting, etc. Long story short, this could be a quick fix, or this can be a Dustin Hermanson situation. Lets hope for the first option.
  7. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 9, 2006 -> 11:50 PM) My one question is why? How does a team go from .250s-.280s to everyone in the middle of the order hitting in the .320s? Is it self-confidence? Is it expectations? Is Jim Thome THAT good? STEROIDS.......Just Kidding! I was just noticing the batting averages today myself. I think it is that the team is just 'loose'. While they may have some pressure as the defending WS Champs, they have already won once. The pressure of the City is off them. The team has always talked that they loved a full house. They have that these days. I think they are just going out to the park and having alot of fun. When you are having fun, playing loose without pressure, you tend to do better.
  8. Before signing up, talk to DirecTv about the options. YOu can subscribe to the Sports Package ($12/month) and you get all the FOX/ComCast/Etc sports channels. BUT, games could be blacked out if out of area or on the MBL Extra Innings package. You may need to buy the baseball package. This is all if you live OUT of the Chicago area. IF you live in the Chicago area, I believe Comcast should be included and you won't have blackout issues.
  9. If this was already brought up, I am sorry. But the CBSSportline Rumor Mill had this tidbit: "The Boston Globe reported that the White Sox were in on the Miguel Tejada talks with Baltimore. If the Cubs would have traded Mark Prior to the Orioles, the White Sox would have been interested in making a deal with the Orioles for Prior." That would have been hilarious. Cubs fans would have been pissed off.
  10. Maybe a possible solution for people that the White Sox informed at an earlier time that they could get tix through group plans is to sell them tix at a very reduced price and allow them to sit out in the bullpen bar? I know they sell the tix above it, but the ones in the bar area are usually first come, first served. Maybe they could offer that area to people they screwed over?
  11. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) Attendance in December, honestly. I smell banning! Oh wait, wrong board. I really only brought this up because of the last part of the post, about the additional revenue covering the extra $20MM they are spending this year.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) A lot of that is because they sold areas like the PSB and the Patio as regular tickets instead of add ons. The regular season capacity is more like 39k. 40,615 to be exact....per the website. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...lpark/index.jsp I was a little high with my original estimate.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) What is the max capacity @ the ballpark these days? How close would that average be to a sellout every game? Between 42k and 43k
  14. I was looking at the 2005 Attendance Figures from ESPN. It said the White Sox average 28,923 (2.342,834) fans per game for their 81 home games. What do you think the 2006 season will bear? 3,000,000 (37,073 avg.)? Lower? Higher? The presale on season tix and the mini plans are at all time highs! And on a side note, if they hit this attendance figure, ticket revenue alone should cover the extra $20MM in salary (figure they sold out the Scout Seats and pretty much the lower bowl at the higher prices) and then factor in that most of the upper deck will be filled in.
  15. That would have to be a HELL of a big stadium! vbg
  16. I was reading the On-line Trib this morning and saw the stories from the various reporters noting their favorites of 2005. And this blurb stuck out: Second-guessing myself Underestimating a Sox pitching staff that posted a 5.59 spring training ERA. By Mark Gonzales Let's not all get crazy come Spring Training when this team does not look like a World Championship team. That is all
  17. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) The team there woudnt have any real fans just tourist. I disagree.....there is a nice sized population there. I have family that lives there and I know they would love it. Granted, they would be WS fans first, but would root for the Vegas team, just as I do the Rangers.
  18. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) I dunno. There are more fun things to do in Vegas than watch baseball. Plus it'd have to be an indoor stadium because when I went there in July once it was 118. I think they'd do ok but their current stadium is only 8 thousand people so they'd need to build it before a team could come. I guess its better to have baseball there than South Florida though. Yeah, there are! But, it may be wise to get away from the tables and the table dances for awhile and save some cash! vbg
  19. QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) I love a pair of seats but they want too much money I need to get one. Would go great with the Brick I have from the Original Comiskey Park that my Dad ripped out of the wall when they were tearing it down.
  20. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) Per WhiteSox.com's Notes Article: Link In best Ken Harrelson voice: I looove Kenny Williams. Those worried about Williams making too many changes to a championship roster can now rest a little easier; these reamining roster positions look to be filled from within the organization. As I was predicting/hoping for, not only will Joe Borchard be given every opportunity to compete for a fourth outfielder's roster spot, the left-handed vacancy created by Damaso Marte's departure will sure enough be filled via a competition of sorts in ST. Although I haven't heard Williams and co. comment on Reynoso, I think that's the guy they've fingered as taking that spot. They seem to be awfully high on him and although they say he'll be competing with Munoz and some Minor League free agents, I think he'll be the guy. Also, anyone else get notion Ross Gload fell out of favor with this organization? If I had to guess: Fourth OF: Borchard Long-Man: McCarthy LHRP: Reynoso Thoughts? I will take this team mentioned. You can NEVER feel completely comfortable with backup in every position, especially if you are keeping an extra pitcher. I would rather be in the situation of needing to scour for a short-stop if Uribe went down than have to scour for another starting pitcher if a pitcher went down. I hope they keep Contreras until at least the trade deadline and keep McCarthy in the pen as insurance of injury to the lineup. I will take a gamble that Uribe is not down for the count for any extensive period of time that Pablo or RM could take over for a few games.
  21. Are the White Sox completing the renovation this off season to replace all the seats to Green seats? Or did that get postponed because of them WINNING THE WORLD SERIES? I love saying that!
  22. He was especially right on about the slumps. As Sox fans, we all know he has them and we are ok with it because we know he works himself out of them. But, if he goes to the Angels or Red Sox for $15M per year, are they going to be OK with him when he slumps and hits into a double play to end a game? I don't think so. I know it is easy for a FAN to say this, but is ALL that worth it for an extra 2-3MM per year? Not that my numbers are anything like his, but I have taken lower paying jobs just because I liked the atmosphere, the security, etc. than what the higher paying job could offer me. And I am doing ok with the $10-15k less than I would have made. QUOTE(Wanne @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:15 AM) Konerko worth a lot to Sox, but not huge salary November 11, 2005 The most unfortunate thing about professional sports these days, at least in the non-Terrell Owens category, is the way change occurs at warp speed. No sooner had the White Sox won their first World Series in 88 years than people were obsessing over whether first baseman Paul Konerko would stay with the team. And now, 16 days after that momentous event, we're being asked to take inventory of our feelings about Konerko. That doesn't seem right. This is the guy who helped carry the Sox through their playoff run. If there was a face of this team, a team of beautifully working parts, it was Konerko. But soon that face will be getting contract offers via free agency, and we need to face facts. Konerko isn't worth some of the numbers that have been bandied about or, to be more accurate, he can't be worth those numbers to the Sox. Five years, $75 million? That's not Konerko. It almost pains me to write that because it puts everything in such stark, either/or terms. But that's pro sports, and the exact thing we're doing is the exact thing the Sox and all the other interested clubs are doing. We're eyeballing and analyzing. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...cs-home-utility
  23. I am still in a fog from Wednesday, October 26th, 2005. I am one of the very lucky fans who bought tix to see our World Series Champion Chicago White Sox sweep the Houston Astros. I have Lustre copies of the Chicago Sun-times front and back pages currently being delivered to be framed with my game tix and program from the game. I also want to thank whoever it was that gave me the sign idea Buzz Off! This is our Year! Go Sox! I was on the Fox pregame and my phone started going crazy as soon as I was on TV. It was amazing how gracious all Houston Astro fans were before, during and especially after the game. Many fans walking by me congratulated me (as if I did anything) on the Sox win. I still can not put into words the feeling of standing by the 3rd base dugout after the game and just watching the scene on the field and in the stands. THANK YOU CHICAGO WHITE SOX for making this 37-year old kids dream come true. (and I too now have to get a Sox tattoo. I told my wife I would only get one if the Sox ever won the world series. That was back in March.)
  24. I told my wife that I would get my first tattoo if the Sox won the world series last March. So, now I am in the same boat trying to figure out what to get. I am leaning towards something like the current Sox logo and adding World Series Champions 2005 around the logo.
  25. Houston didn't care enough during the season. Houston's basic rule was if no rain and under 80 degree's, play with roof open. If over 80 or rain or some type of inclement weather, play with it closed. They went against this rule in the playoff's for the noise advantage.
