Any deal involving the outfielder would have to be approved by Reds owner Carl Lindner, who brought Griffey home in February 2000 on a nine-year, $116.5 million deal that runs through 2008. Lindner has given no indication he would approve a trade unless Griffey asks to leave. Allen confirmed that there have been no discussions with Griffey about a deal. "In addition, it should be remembered that Ken is a 5-and-10 (year) player and would have to be involved in any discussion in that regard. "We have not and do not intend to have any such discussions with Ken and his agent." Trade speculation will become moot at midnight Wednesday. Any player dealt after that deadline won't be eligible for the postseason. The speculation involving Griffey underscores his remarkable comeback from his worst injury. Griffey tore his right hamstring from the bone and had it reattached with three titanium screws last August, jeopardizing his career. The hamstring hadn't fully recovered by spring training. He got off to a slow start, but has looked like the old Junior since July. His 16 homers since the All-Star break are the most in the majors, and he's hitting .370 in August with 10 homers and 19 RBIs. Griffey is hitting .458 during a 14-game hitting streak, kept intact Monday when Cincinnati's game in Pittsburgh was rained out. His contract calls for base salaries of $12.5 million in each of the next three seasons, plus an option for 2009 at $16.5 million. The club could buy out the option year for $4 million. In all, Griffey is owed $41.5 million after the 2005 season, so he wouldn't be a short-term or cheap fix for any playoff contender looking to add another slugger. some of you need to realize the reason you are hearing comments like that from cincy players/coaches is because the CHICAGO media wont shut the hell up. this thing has been dead for a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time. it isnt talked about in any media outlet in ohio except to refute what a chicago person says. the players and coaches are getting sick and tired of being asked 1million times everyday by chicago media and such about it. what do you expect. i love how when you have a chance to get the guy, no bashing, all love. then the min it turns sour, some start complaining and bashing like youve never heard. griffey doesnt want to move. so what, move on. thats life

Regardless it still creates an opening for the WSox & KW needs to be relentless for the next 13 days to try & convince Lindher the Reds would be better with what the WSox have to offer. It's not about KGJ being the savior for the White Sox. This team remains the best combination of pitching & defense in the league. It might not own the best record in MLB but when you combine the pitching & defensive stats it's the stingiest team in baseball. With KGJ it just becomes a more potent & dangerous team. Pods-Iguchi-Griffey Jr : would be the best top of the order in MLB. Add that to the stingiest team in MLB & a championship is expected. you need help bad

Are they for or against it? probably 75-25 for it for the smart fan. probably 0-100 for the idiots who just go to games and dont know anything. same reason we kept larkin for 3 extra years. and i do agree with you that he hasnt had the effect on the team like we would have hoped. but he has made the team a ton of money in ticket sales, merchandise, etc. thats what i was talking about. what he brings to the team financially. as far as the prospects, thats a misconception about the reds. we have no guys in the minors in the outfield. pena has proven he can hit homers, but thats it and hes always hurt. kearns is probably the best of the 3, all around(ive seen them all play since low a ball) but hes always hurt. dunn is the only young/proven/injury free outfielder in the entire organization. as far as 1b go, we have nothing after casey. though i dont want rogo in a deal, cause im not big on him. we do need pitching, but we need everything really. outside of what you see on the big club, we have NOTHING. i dont think one team in our minors even has a winning record. our gm is an idiot, hes run us into the ground in less than 2 years. so while pitching is a need big time, ill take good position players over getting avg pitching prospects, just cause we "need" pitching.

he is an idiot, but as i said on the main board, that isnt the reason he wont trade him. hes selling the team and he wants to A. have the team have as much star power as possible to make more money on the deal and B. allow the new people to decide what to do with the players

Reds fan here, unfortunately , just wanted to clear up some things ive read on here, from the reds point of view, of what i have heard. first - the reds have not denied the trade. they have used the famous dan o'boring non denial. instead of saying, there is no trade, we are not talking to the white sox, etc, they just say, we havent talked to griffey about it, etc. second - the owner is a f'n idiot like you guys say, but thats not why this trade hasnt been accepted. rumor is he is selling the reds or at least part of it (man how i hope he sells the entire team and gets the heck out here) and this is why no major player was allowed to be traded. he didnt want to trade any major player on the team, and let the new people do what they wanted. the only 2 players that were allowed to be moved were aurillia and randa. now, supposedly that stance has changed. he has supposedly told our dumb fo that if they think that trading jr is the best for this team and if jr and his agent call him personally and tell him he wants out, then he will okay the trade
