  1. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) Regardless of his average, Glaus is having a better year than Crede offensively and is easily more deserving. Crede is better with the glove than Glaus, but that doesn't make up for the offensive difference. Lowell and Crede are having similar years, and I don't think there is room for the roster to carry 3 third basemen. So where is Glaus doing that much better than Crede offensively where it makes him more deserving? HRs and BBs are the only thing I see. Glaus also has as many Ks as hits and he is the anti-Crede in terms of Clutchness: Glaus .219 RISP, Bases Loaded .125 Crede .351 RISP, Bases Loaded .462 Crede .302 BA, .336 OBP, .524 SLG, .859 OPS, 83 Hits, 16 2B, 15 HR, 55 RBI, 46 R, 14 BB, 26 Ks Glaus .252 BA, .350 OBP, .542 SLG, .892 OPS, 72 Hits, 17 2B, 22 HR, 57 RBI, 57 R, 43 BB, 72 Ks Also consider where they bat, Glaus 4th, Crede 6th; Glaus is going to get a lot more opportunities to drive in runs and score. The only things I see in Glaus' favor is HRs and BBs. To me that is not enough to warrant his selection over Crede.
  2. Interleague play is like a cool gadget for Christmas that is in the closet by New Year's. They should cut the number of series in half. It is fun seeing the AL pound the NL, but a couple extra series vs DET, CLE, and MIN would be more exciting IMO.
  3. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) I wonder who the last team was who won a World title with a regular hitting .170. In the last couple of years, the closest was Boston in 2004 with Pokey Reese playing 96 games and batting .221. He was later replaced by Orlando Cabrera. I agree that Kenny will do whatever he can to make this ballclub better. Anderson only has a few more weeks to make his case.
  4. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) I support keeping BA in the lineup, but thats not much of a defense for him. Yeah that was a reach.
  5. Anderson seems to be coming around. He is batting .250 since June 11th and has a higher OBP than Uribe on the season. His bat is not losing games for the Sox. The last time he went hitless and the Sox lost was June 2nd. If his bat becomes a liability and the Sox start losing, then pursue other avenues. If he can keep a .250 BA from now until the end of the year, that would be fine for me.
  6. QUOTE(lukeman89 @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) i like the comment whats-his-face made... "well the no, AJ made dempster look bad, bobby jenks made d.lee look bad (lo-f***ing-l) dempster made the cubs look bad (but of course they ARE bad, there is no hiding it) but there is no way that you can say A Cubs fan said the garbage doesn't matter, because they already have garbage in the stands, on the field, in the bullpen, in the dugout, and in the front office. Garbage in, garbage out.
  7. f*** YEAH! AJ, THOME, PAULIE, CREDE, and you can't forget about Gload's two out single. Then JENKS shuts the door! HUGE WIN!
  8. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) The risk of Riske is giving up the long ball. The last two years with Cleveland, he surrendered 11 in 70+ innings each year. This is his 3rd in 14 innings between Boston and us. Jones actually leads all active players in HRs vs Riske with 3 (now). He is 5 for 9 vs him lifetime with 3 homers.
  9. Mariotti is a poor man's Bill O'Reilly.
  10. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) Ozzie IS Ditka. In fact.........Ozzie kicked Ditka's ass. Think about it this way. Ditka lasted 10 years in his job, which is rather extrordinary in his line of work, and is still revered as the king of Chicago sports. Ozzie will, in the final analysis, be regarded in the same positive manner. Thats why I like Oz that much more. He actually has the balls to tell people what's on his mind, which is what most of us are thinking but afraid to say to anyone, and makes no apologies for his statements. Most of the time Ozzie is right and politically incorrect at the same time; then when you add his command of the English language, you get one funny dude.
  11. The media is eating this crap up, and why are these reporters asking him about Mariotti anyway? Just to ignite the fire. He needs to stick to answering baseball questions, and not questions about how he feels about The Big Hurt or Magglio or Mariotti. That is where he gets into trouble, because he tells them exactly how he feels.
  12. The best record doesn't necessarily mean they are the best manager. If that was the case it would be a better idea to take last year's managers of the year, and have them manage the ASG. For Player voting - There should be a minimum amount of fan votes needed to get in, like 1 million, and if a player does not get that many votes, he needs to be voted in by the players/managers or added by the ASG manager.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 01:27 AM) Oh for sure. Sure Rowand had to dive and run into walls since he's slower and got worse reads than Anderson does in CF, but Rowand's getting dirty really fired up the troops, kinda like McMahon would do when he ran on passing plays. Actually, Ozzie is the Latin Ditka too, this team is so much like DAAAAAAA BEARS, it's scary. Effort and grit >>>>> Talent Talent is just something prima donnas have, all of our players are blue collar grinders. Is "The World Series Shuffle" in the works?
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) Well, Edmonds is 36 and has been injured for a good portion of the season, I'm not all that surprised by his lack of production this season. Tex on the other hand is 26 and has had just about no history of injury, it's suspicious to say the least. Thats true about Edmonds, forgot how old he was. Good catch.
  15. Its pretty close, but I will have to go with BA. Hopefully Brian's last 7 games are a preview of things to come as well: Last 7 games: .296 BA .387 OBP .600 SLG .987 OPS 3 Doubles 1 HR w/ 6 RBI 3 BBs and 4 Ks Projected for a full season: 63 Doubles, 21 HRs, 126 RBI in 150 games played
  16. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) It's a combination of a few things. 1. Rudy J. (batthing coach) not being around while he was out fighting prostate cancer. 2. slow start 3. His swing. If you notice, his doubles production has shot up tremendously. It has to do with the fact that his swing now has a slight 'upswing' versus a 'downswing'. The downswing produces the spin to get the height to get the ball over the wall. He and Rudy noticed this while watching film and caught it just before the WS series. He has decided to try to take it slow in changing it because he doesn't want to not hit at all. He said he would need to take some time in the cage and slowly make the change so that he isn't constantly thinking of it. If the swing was the only problem, shouldn't he be getting better at some point? He was batting over .300 in late April with a couple of HRs. It is now late June and he is down to .277 and has yet to homer in June. Yes his doubles are up but not in proportion to how much his HRs are down. Look at Uribe, he seems to be coming around. 4 HRs in the last 6 games, Teixeira has hit 4 HRs in his last 59 games. Same goes for Jim Edmonds, a perennial 30HR guy has 7 HRs this year thus far. Both Edmonds and Teixeira have dropped more than 150 pts off of their career OPS for this year.
  17. Hangar has been doing this Media thing for awhile (mainly on another site) and it for the most part has went unquestioned until recently. JimH along with a few others were just looking for the legit answers behind the numbers and they have yet to get them. I feel that he should still be able to post what he wants, but he needs to put it in green text or back it up with valid references. If he really feels that the Sox are media maligned, start a blog (takes about 5 minutes) and post to your hearts content. This is really not the place to do that if you cannot back it up with facts (see mlbtraderumors.com). Soxtalk is only as good as its members, and it has become a pretty credible source for White Sox information. I can tell you on numerous occasions where I found/read information here first before it even hit the media outlets. Very few forums are this well managed, and that is what makes this site so successful.
  18. I see a trade for Crazy Carl in the near future, we need his bat in the lineup. Can you believe the Sox have not scored in the 9th inning vs St. Louis? Hell, if Buehrle wants to go to the Cards, trade him now for Mulder or Marquis - those are two shutdown starters right there. While were at it, trade Dye for Timo so we can get Timo's production at the dish. I didn't see Dye homer last night.
  19. Here is the "official" rule:
  20. I just saw him on the ESPN game recaps and realized I have not heard anything about him this year, which is somewhat surprising since he was a possible AL MVP candidate (.301 BA, 43 HR, 144 RBI last year). Right now he is batting .281, but with only 6 HRs and 39 RBI. That projects to only 16 HRs and 84 RBI for the season, which is not bad but a 27 HR and 60 RBI drop-off in one season is huge. I read a couple of things about his swing being off, but it is hard to believe that it could affect him that much. Uribe has had a horrible swing for most of the season and he has 7 HRs. So what do you think? Injury? Just a slump? Swing problems? Other?
  21. Jim, There is a simple equation to get the Cubine factor, and I thought everyone knew it. So just in case you missed it in the Cubs 1978 media guide, here you go:
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Well, if the NL wins, it means we'd win the World Series at home. True, very true.
  23. Updated VORP Rankings, as of June 19th. 7 hitters in the top 131 and 5 pitchers in the top 100. The Sox are the only team with 3 hitters in the top 30. Also, only one pitcher below zero.
