I cannot understand why the NL is pitching to Pujols so much. The Cards are 17-3 when Pujols homers, and most of those wins are because of his production. He now has 23 homers, and the entire Cards team has only 47, while the next closest player has a whopping 5. There are six players that have as many or more BBs as Pujols (Abreu, Bonds, Giambi, Dunn, Hafner, and Thome), and Pujols has hit as many HRs as the first 3 combined. The Cards are 4-8 when Pujols is held without a hit. He now has 57 RBIs in 44 games; his next closest teammate has 29 RBI. It seems like teams are letting Pujols beat them, and they are not taking him out of the equation. Why are they not giving him crap to hit? I know you can't walk him everytime he is up, but from the highlights it seems like they are actually giving him some good pitches to hit (which he does on a frequent basis). When will the league catch on and start pitching around Pujols?

Just watch how Ozzie handles NL parks during interleague play.

Canadians = Fake Americans Eh, they need to stick to hockey, eh.

I think it all depends on what happens this season. There is a good chance that two of the current starting pitchers could be gone for 2007 and definitely by 2008. Garland has been pretty bad this year, and he has been bad vs some bad teams. He has pitched vs (KC x3, SEA, OAK, LAA, MIN, TAM, and DET). Detroit is really the only high scoring offense he faced, yet his ERA is still over 6.00. He has already given up 13 HRs this year compared to the 26 he gave up all of last year. It is still early, but he needs to turn it up a notch, otherwise he will be the one that B-Mac replaces. Buehrle is the only Lefty Starter, so I think the Sox will do whatever they can to sign him to an extension. Unless the Sox think they can get Zito or some other Lefty of that caliber, they will more than likely hang onto Mark. Vazquez has been solid for the season except for the last two outings and that one inning vs TOR. It will interesting to see what the Sox decide to do with him. They are getting him for a reduced price right now, and it will be interesting to see if they resign him at full price. Garcia is off to the best start of his career (record-wise), and he has been really solid except for his first start. If he continues to get better like he has so far, it will be hard for the Sox to let him go. The Count is not going anywhere. The other thing to consider is the minor league pitchers (Phillips, Broadway, Lumsden), maybe not in 07, but definitely in 08. One of these guys could be up by then.

What is up with him this year? In his 10 first starts he is 1-5 with a 5.12 ERA, and has allowed half his ER total from 2005 in 1/4 of the innings. Opponents are batting .289 against him and his WHIP is 1.47. Those numbers are far off from last year and his walks are way up and his K's are way down. Is he injured, was it the WBC, is he trying to get traded out of the situation in FL, or was last year just a "career year"?

As long as he can throw strikes, he is going to be an asset. This was a great move by KW. Thornton+Mackowiak > Marte+Borchard.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 20, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) We gotta get the offense charged up again next inning. Yeah, Gooch is the only one with a hit.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 20, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) Ottawa you're right, it looks like Barrett clearly said something to AJP but it was very tough to see if AJ said something back. On Fox they had a good view of AJ and he definitely said something when Barrett stopped him, but that doesn't give Barrett the right to punch him.

Fox says AJ got tossed because he said something to Barrett that started the whole thing.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 20, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) Jeez, this paragraph makes it seem like Oakland is a AA ballclub with no amenities(sp?) for the players That's what I was thinking. It doesn't seem like a player friendly environment.

For anyone looking for White Sox game notes, MLB.com has an archive of all the team's game notes from the last couple of years. If you signed up for the MLB.com Presspass, you already get the link in an email, but I was not aware of the archive until yesterday. They have every game to include the playoffs as far back as 2002. Here is the link for any interested: http://presspass.mlb.com/docs/77/109/ Most of the files are PDF and there are also some individual page GIF files. The daily game notes are posted there the day of the each game.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 18, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) All the coaches except for Raines signed extensions. Harold must really like dodging balls over at first base. I read that as well. I thought Baines was leaving after his contract was up? I also wonder what is wrong with Raines, whether he wants to move on or the team wants to.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 18, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) Homer by Zimmerman and 2 run shot by Damian Jackson off Wood. make that 3 home runs, soriano got him..4-0 Nats, how will the media spin this one?? The media will say that it was a good first start and note the fact that he did not hit a batter or get injured again while on the mound. Next time he will be ready, next time.

A big reason why some teams have losing records is because they have played the Sox and Tigers. So at this point it is too early to use schedules for or against teams. Leyland has them playing inspired baseball. Everyone knew the Tigers would score runs, but I don't think anyone expected their pitching to be leading the league. I still cannot believe that Maroth was a 21 game loser in 2003 and now has an ERA that is less than half his career average. Will he keep that up? Bonderman lost 19 in 2003 and Robertson lost 16 last year, and I just don't see these guys maintaining this for a full year.

Sorry if this was already posted, but I did not see it. Either way it is nice to see the organization as a whole in this position.
