Interesting Connection
With the recent news about Grimsley, I wondered which players had played with Grimsley and other suspected or admitted users like Giambi and Canseco. I only used Giambi and Canseco with Grimsley and came up with these names: Played with all 3 players: R. Clemens (multiple seasons with each player) M. Tejada Played with 2 of the players: R. Palmiero D. Jeter B. Williams K. Rogers R. Hernandez C. Davis J. Dye Canseco played with Giambi in 1997 (OAK) and Grimsley in 2000 (NYY). Just because a player played on the same team doesn't constitute guilt, but you have to believe they knew something about the usage. I didn't even realize it until the end that Clemens had played 7 total seasons with those 3 players, and had at least 2 with each player. Tejada had 7 as well, but only one with Canseco.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Just noticed that the White Sox MLB page now has Thome in the banner in place of a sliding Podsednik. I was wondering when they were going to add Thome.

Rotation concerns??
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 06:56 AM) So this wouldn't be a good time for me to reveal Buehrle's splits vs. Winning and Losing teams then I'm guessing.... 4-1, 1.64 ERA, 1.05 WHIP vs. Losing teams 2-3, 4.73 ERA, 1.51 WHIP vs. Winning teams. And considering that theres a real good chance 3 of the 5 teams in the AL Central are gonna be winning teams, that kinda has an impact. Don't start with the "MBIIA" argument, thats not the point. Just putting some numbers out there, and before you ask, yes I counted Cleveland as a winning team, despite 2 games under .500 How can you count Cleveland as a winning team? Oakland is only one game over so are they really a winning team? You have to count them for what they are. Buehrle's Stats 2-1, 3.27 ERA, 1.32 WHIP vs Winning Teams 4-3, 3.19 ERA, 1.27 WHIP vs Losing Teams (including CLE)

arow coming back?
From The Philadelphia Inquirer: The Phillies will more than likely pick up the $5 million Team option on Rowand for 2007; so if they feel that they will not be able to re-sign him to a longer deal, they will deal him by the trading deadline in 2007.

Ab Workouts
One thing that I didn't see mentioned is your target heart rate for cardio, there are two zones, one to increase cardio fitness and one to burn fat. Example - 30 YR (w/ resting HR of 65) 220 - 30 (age) = 190 190 - 65 (resting heart rate) = 125 125 * 65% (low end of heart rate) OR 85% (high end) = 81.25 OR 106.25 81.25 + 65 (resting heart rate) = 146.25 106.25 + 65 (rhr) = 171.25 The target heart rate zone for this person would be 146 to 171 Now for fat burning, you want to be somewhere below 146, like between 116-146. I had been doing cardio for years and never could get that last roll off my stomach, and once I slowed down and kept my HR lower, the fat started to come off. The only drawback is that you have to go longer to get the same amount of calorie loss, but the extra time is well worth it.

The 06 Chicago White Sox are born
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 03:05 AM) I love how people hate homeruns... yet they are the only sure hit for a run. I could care less if the sox scored seven runs of singles and doubles... or all off of three homeruns. Anyone ever notice that when the sox have not scored for three innings '' they are swinging for the fences''. Almost never does someone give a pitcher the respect they deserve... or does someone mention that the team cannot pick up a certain guy. Why does no one b**** when the sox are swinging for the fences? Shouldn't they be more content with a single? I am pretty positive most think the red sox... yankees... mets... just swing for the fence too. Reading soxtalk you would think that... 1. Homeruns are bad... a base hit is superior. 2. Everytime a white sox player gets an out it is because they were pulling it for a home run. It is more likely that a player will hit a single more than any other hit, so the odds are in favor of manufacturing runs than swinging for the fences. So in terms of offensive efficiency, a base hit is better than a HR because of the frequency at which they occur. HRs are not bad though; take them when you can get them.

Garland tired of critics
Drafted by the Cubs, now sounding like a Cubs fan. Next he will be hanging out with Darren Daulton.

Garland tired of critics
It sounds like denial to me. The bottom line is he is not even close to his career averages; we expected some regression, but not this much.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!&a

AL Central LONG Run
It looks like August will be the telling month for the AL Central. Detroit has a killer 20 game stretch and pretty rough schedule compared to the Sox and Indians. After their last showing vs winning teams (3-8) it looks like they may fade at that point in the season. Detroit 3 at TB 3 vs CLE 3 vs MIN 3 at SOX 3 at BOS 4 vs TEX 4 vs SOX 3 at CLE 3 at NYY Sox 2 at KC 3 at TOR 1 vs LAA 3 vs NYY 3 vs DET 4 vs KC 3 at MIN 4 at DET 3 vs MIN 3 vs TB Cleveland 3 at BOS 3 at DET 3 vs LAA 4 vs KC 3 at MIN 3 at TB 3 at KC 3 vs DET 3 vs TOR

Jermaine Dye baseball's MVP?
Right now it is a close race between Thome and Dye with Hafner and Giambi right behind them. Looking at the ABs, it is hard to deny Dye's numbers.

Big 3 Continue to Roll
QUOTE(TLAK @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 07:12 AM) The White Sox big 3 continue to lead major league baseball in combined HR and RBIs. It's been a couple weeks since we looked, despite Thome missing the Texas series they are still on top. Note that Ryan Howard has now matched Jim Thome's power numbers. Last night's games not included. They are also doing it in less ABs. Curious to see how their Run+RBI totals match up with others since HR+RBI is somewhat redundant.

RUMOR
The Pujols rumor is really deflating. I think the initial news will be disappointing if it is true, but at this point, it won't be a big shock to me. Every year there is a new type of drug coming out that is not detectable by current standards, so unless they continually update the testing like the Olympics, these problems will always exist in professional sports. All the major sports should develop some sort of Anti-Doping agency that is independent from the leagues who governs all professional sports in the US. That would solve a lot of the problems with negotiations between the league and the player's unions.

AL Central LONG Run
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) Cleveland's pitching is atrotious. Its absolutley horrible. Det has a much better rotation and pen. I agree, Cleveland's pitching staff is not the same without Milwood. In contrast, Detroit's has been the best in the league so far this year. 9 out of the top 10 pitching staffs are teams that have a winning record. A 5.00 Team ERA for Cleveland is not going to get them very far.

It is the Guillen effect. He is listed in 3 articles, so you have to cut that value in half = 1.5, then round to the nearest number 2. Then subtract the 2 Tigers stories to get 4. For the Cubs, you have to use the Scrub effect and make everything seem bigger and better. The article "Pitcher, catcher all in one" is actually 2 articles "Pitcher" and "Catcher all in one". Also, "Prior's next two starts set - neither with Cubs" is 4 articles not 1. They talk about Prior's next 2 starts = 2 articles, and how neither will be with the Cubs = 2 more. That totals 8. A good way to do this is to use Google News. Do a news search for White Sox, then add up the total number of links/articles from various sources and do the same for Cubs. Here is what you get: Google first page news search for White Sox - 616 different links/articles Google first page news search for Cubs - 202 different links/articles Another way is to check the daily count of the teams from the Front page of the major sports websites: ESPN - Sox-2, Cubs-0 MLB.com - Sox-1, Cubs-0 CBS Sportsline - Sox-1, Cubs-1 Fox Sports - Sox-0, Cubs-0 CNNSI - Sox-0, Cubs-0 Total - Sox-4, Cubs-1

The Positive Thread
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) Look, the Bulls in their last championship years had Rodman, who was almost a zero offensive threat. But his defense and rebounding were so good he made it work as a teammate. I look at BA the same way. The upside is if he ever starts hitting, watch out. Keep him. BA should die his hair like Rodman.

Pujols hurt
If Pujols is only on the DL for 15 days, he will be back just in time for the series vs the Sox.

Everett a model citizen in Seattle
So being a steadying presence on a last place team, and fitting in real well on a last place team is a compliment? Your the best bad player in the league.

The Positive Thread
How about: - The best home record in the bigs at 20-8. - 1st in HRs hit (Team) - 2nd in BB allowed (Team) - Only 3 games off last year's blistering pace. - Have scored 54 more runs compared to same point last year. - Boone Logan is in the minors - 3-0 vs DET, 3-0 vs OAK, 4-1 vs LAA - 7-5 vs winning teams, DET is 7-10 vs winning teams - Cleveland is 6 games back - Ozzie manages the AL All-Star team - Only 2.5 GB with 106 games left. It is a marathon not a sprint. Also, the White Sox homepage is first in the Google search for "Sox"

Pujols hurt
QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) Too bad about Albert. I don't want to seethe Cubs have any hope what so ever. Bob I was actually hoping he broke the Bonds HR *record* this year. Now that is very unlikely. It is going to be a rough stretch for the Cards while he is out. The Cubs have no chance either way.

Pujols hurt
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2469450 This is a good reason not to use Thome that much in the field during interleague play.
