Juggs, why are you diddling over a word, “crime,” that wasn’t even in the newspaper article? Unless you’re just trolling for your usual response out of folks. You say, UNFOUNDED allegations? I guess along with a stupefying deficit of facts and logic, you have trouble reading, as well. Just fyi, I think you sound less silly when you cover your ears and shout, “I can’t hear you” as a tactical move versus when you try the old change-the-subject gimmick (baby killers! baby killers!).
  2. Nice thread title! But mightn’t a more elegant choice have been “The Damning-With-Faint-Praise Thread”? (That was my backhanded compliment) B)
  3. My brain seems to like to try to unify things, so I usually saw it as one foreign-sounding word, like wy-notch. Were it WinoDJ instead of winodj, that would be a different input. Sadly, that’s all moot now. Rex Kickass is much more jarring, but I guess that’s the point?
  4. Anybody keeping track of the number of "#2 Al Qaida" muckity mucks that this administration keeps announcing have been killed? Seems like a lot of them. And whatever happened to Osama bin Laden?

  6. You know, I've never heard it described quite that way, but that sounds just about right.
  7. No way! If you understood her correctly, then she must never have undergone a colonoscopy herself. It’s strange how we’re mostly used to violating that largest organ (the skin) with injections, even though that can hurt. But doing something that involves entering an orifice can often creep us out. One final detail, since we’re being graphic. In order to be able to visualize everything properly, they inject air first, hence the farting after the procedure is finished. I recall the doctor giving the standard caution beforehand that I might feel a little pain or pressure. All I recall feeling was a little awkward.
  8. I saw your post about pre-colonoscopy jitters, but didn’t realize it had to do with nerves about the procedure itself. I’m sorry I didn’t jump on and say something. Yeah, it’s the prep work that’s a bit of a drag, but the procedure itself is easy. My only issue was that I wanted to watch what was happening on the video monitor, but I was off into a twilight sleep too soon.
  9. Uh huh. Far off camera so some pesky reporters don’t ask embarrassing questions. Hey, I just looked at a map of Manitoba. Y’all sure do have beaucoup bodies of water in your province. Also totally unrelated to this thread – do you ever go watch the garter snake emergence at any of the local dens in the springtime? I hear it can be spectacular
  10. Oh puhleese. No need to pussy foot around. The guy's a big ol' self-loathing closet case. I was looking forward to some great media moments, but I see someone must have given Hastert the 411 about what they had to look forward to with Dreier as even temporary Speaker.
  11. In most types of legitimate scientific inquiry, everyone keeps their mouths shut (or at least tries to keep things under wraps) until they can get their results presented in a peer-reviewed publication.

Juggs, I take it that you fashion yourself a fisher of men. Is that why you always seem to be trolling (or, better, chumming) the waters here?
  13. Updike was never my cup of tea. But I’ll always grant his place in American letters, particularly with those works you named. I used to enjoy reading his take on other writers in his occasional New Yorker magazine reviews. But one of them soured me on him personally forever. It’s funny the stuff that sticks in your mind. I can’t think of Updike now without thinking of that god-awful review (maybe 5 years ago?). Parts of it were jaw-droppingly, intensely homophobic. It’s like he just had to get some nasty stuff off his chest that didn’t even have to do with the novel under consideration.

Thanks. I was looking at an "Age of Majority Chart" that showed 21 for DC and Mississippi. Out of date maybe?
  15. Neat. Thanks for the link. I hate to sound too cynical, but I’m thinking: Japanese are big whalers => sperm whales eat giant squid => find out more about giant squid => catch more whales. But I do like (regular-sized) squid. Umm, ika is tasty.
  16. See, boys, now THERE'S your problem. Listen carefully. It would be: "Oh Kristian, SLOWER, oh yeah, a little SLOWER, yes, don't stop, yesss, that is so perfect babe, etc, etc" Duh.

Bear in mind, that Trib article didn’t say sex with children; it didn’t say men with boys. But that was where this thread went immediately. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. Any time this topic comes up, there seems to be no distinction in the discussions between pedophilia and sex with older teenagers/young adults. There is a BIG difference. In Illinois, as in most states, a person is a minor until the age of 18. But it does range all the way up to 21 in a couple of states.

Early in the morning, I clicked on a link on the Tribune site that I thought was going to take me to that story, and it was a list of each of the priests, their parishes, and when the “events” took place. One was as long ago as the 1950’s, some from the 1980’s. Glad to know the hierarchy is on top of things. I don’t see that link right off the bat, anymore. Maybe it’s still there somewhere. Didn’t feel like doing a search on sicko priests.
  19. That took as long to load as the real MSNBC site. :sleep
  20. Ka-Ching! EDIT: Oops, I should have read the rest of the thread before I posted. Now I see I should have said: Ka-Ching, dumbs*** (You know I mean that only in the nicest possible way/call all my buddies that, right?)
  21. I don’t have much of a problem with folks talking about the same things over and over. Thank goodness the powers-that-be here don’t treat this stuff like the attendance threads at WSI. But someone really ought to start ONE “Fire Ozzie” or “Ozzie Blew It” thread at the start of the season to keep it all in one easy-to-find location.
