  1. Cool link. Thanks. I see that the website owner is from New Zealand. Love those Kiwis! Hope they keep the site up. I'm always dumfounded that any healthy individual believes that kind of nonsense. But it also reminds me of the old joke: What's the difference between a cult and a religiion? Answer: Oh, about 100 years. Who knows where this country will be in a hundred years? Scientology may be a mainstream religion and schools everywhere will be teaching idiot-science.
  2. I believe a White Sox fan message board like this already exists.

    Condoms

Okay, let me get this straight. You’ve got this “friend” wink wink who’s doing a “research project” wink wink and needs jokes about CONDOMS. And that got you thinking about “what works, what doesn’t.” So you’re asking for specific details and…. Puhleese! Did we just fall off the turnip truck, or what? Can’t you just call 1-800-RUBBERS? On a slightly related note (but honest I’m not referring to you, Tex) – is anyone here old enough to remember the scourge of dirty phone calls we used to have to put up with? They were just a fact of life. These pathetic pervs – a lot of them must have just dialed at random and waited for a woman to answer before starting up with their nonsense. Caller ID just wiped that out instantly after it came out. One good piece of technology. Don’t know what made me think about that all of a sudden. Well, sorry, didn’t mean to put a damper on the Rubber-A-Thon. Carry on.

    Condoms

By me, I"LL SAY! I usually left that stuff up to my ex. I mean, buying the condoms, not uh, oh nevermind. Anyway, Tex, this wasn't what you had in mind, I guess, but .................. After the Sox clinched, I was having some guilty pleasure reading the final game day thread at a pretty lame Angels message board, and got a good chuckle out of this exchange when the Angels brought in a relief pitcher:
  5. I can proudly and honestly state that I never saw a complete episode of Friends. It only took a few minutes for me to make up my mind that I needn't waste my time there.
  6. No vote. Don't care. It's all about the White Sox, baby.
  7. Hey, what do you have against Kotex, anyway? Do you prefer some other brand?
  8. MJ over, say, Alex Snelius or one of the Sox old timers like Minnie? Nah.
  9. Hawk is just reviled nationwide outside of his fan base as such a big homer. Conversely, his boosterism is a big part of his appeal to his supporters. So why doesn’t this homer have his heiny in the seats during this glorious run? I gotta say, it looks kinda small of him. At the least, it’s pretty peculiar.
  10. Is this a candidate for the WPBB thread?
  11. This kid is a pretty good manager. EDIT: I forgot to mention my favorite thing about Ozzie, which I hadn’t noticed until recently. After the final out in a win, his sons come over to him in the dugout, give him a hug, and Ozzie kisses them. My kind of man!
  12. Soxy – How about a medical update on your kitten and your ankle? Hope both are on the mend. I believe that kittens, like ankles, are best kept in two’s.
  13. You watched TV sitcoms in the '90's?
  14. Welcome. (Where's our Welcome icon, anyway? I see plenty of smilies for fighting.) Well, I see you are everywhere on the net. But are you a White Sox fan? I passed through Launceston once as a tourist. Tasmania reminded me a bit of Virginia – the apple orchards, the weather – except for the road-killed wallabies.
  15. Tex: Pet overpopulation, pet food ingredients, pet euthanasia, culturally taboo food items, and slaughter of food for human consumption – all are interesting topics to be sure. But what the heck do they have to do with the topic of this thread: The use of LIVE animals – I purposefully avoided using the loaded word, “puppies,” although they are mentioned most often – as shark bait. In searching the Reunion newspaper, I found mention of this practice more than once and going back to 1999. The fact that the practice might not be widespread does not detract from its barbarity. Kill the animal before using it as bait, please.
  16. I’ll be happy to summarize: ACCORDING TO THE REUNION GOVERNMENT ITSELF, The practice of using live dogs for shark bait “… was never widespread nor traditional, but introduced by ruthless individuals, and has been strictly banned for decades now.” Translation: ALL our fisherman don’t do this, just an isolated, few depraved individuals. Whew! I feel better now. Kind of the same way as I would if I read that this had happened on Lake Michigan. EDIT: Also, as the newspaper in Reunion plainly stated, the first person arrested and prosecuted for this crime as a result of the publicity admitted his guilt in court. I’m not exactly sure why the fact that “amateur fishermen” utilize this practice makes it somehow less disgusting or an “urban legend.” Tex? Anyone?
  17. I prefer that old school “high socks” look, myself. But I guess PJ’s might do.
  18. Thank goodness he didn't make a crack about Little League. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-soxnt17.html
  19. Going in, I would much rather the Sox have faced the Yankees. I thought the Angels played us tough in the regular season and that we were in for a real fight. What an embarrassment for the Angels it turned out to be! The first two games were exciting. But after that, the Angels looked like they hardly deserved to be on the same playing field as the White Sox– and knew it.

    Blaggo

Would you wear a Cubs cap if they made it to the World Series? Yeah, me neither. And I respect other fans who are really loyal to their teams. However, if I were elected governor of ALL the people of Illinois, I sure as heck would be promoting any and all of our sports teams every chance I got. See the difference? He’s not a phony bandwagoner, he’s THE GOVERNOR, the chief rah-rah person for every business in the state.
  21. I really don’t know what your “point” was. Nor do I care. I simply took you at your words. You do want people to take you seriously, don’t you? What does “PC” have to do with anything? For the record, again, here are your words: I think you’re amusing, but perhaps not in the way you intend. Now how’s about we get busy on that White People Acting Badly thread? "Certain segments" of OUR community are gonna keep us in stitches for weeks, brotha.
  22. I’m not sure, but I think the organization at the link below was the first to widely publicize the practice of using live dogs and cats as fish bait on the French island of La Reunion. http://www.seashepherd.org/news/media_050929_1.html The story gained wider circulation when it was picked up by this London tabloid: http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005460101,00.html Perhaps we've been castrating the wrong species.
  23. Please, please stop. I’m sure Nuke must have feelings, too. He can’t help that he was born white. But he should be ashamed of all those crimes committed by his fellow whites. Can’t we just start a White People Behaving Badly thread and be done with this? In time, Nuke may come to see the error of his and his people's lawless ways.
  24. It’s pretty cool that Marcia and Ken Powers just became the first to complete the 4900-mile transcontinental American Discovery Trail in one continuous hike. But what really impressed me is that he’s 60 and she’s in her 50’s. http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=83655 http://www.suntimes.com/output/outdoors/cst-nws-hike16.html
