    Discovery's Trip

    QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Wow, good call on checking out NASA tv today. Incredible. If you are able to listen it's way interesting... they are talking with the crew as they are doing all their testing.
  2. I think people realize Dennis is a few cards short of a full deck and don't hold it against the charity.

  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2117983 Nixon strained oblique muscle while battingAssociated Press Related Video: Red Sox win by one run ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Red Sox right fielder Trot Nixon was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained muscle in his side, and the team recalled left-handed pitcher Lenny DiNardo from Triple-A Pawtucket. Nixon, batting .293 with 11 homers and 50 RBI, strained his left oblique muscle while swinging at a pitch from Tampa Bay's Mark Hendrickson in the third inning of Boston's 10-9 win Tuesday night. He immediately left the game for pinch hitter Adam Hyzdu. After missing the pitch, Nixon grimaced and clutched his left side. "There is some fluid in there that they already know, which means there is some damage done," Boston manager Terry Francona said. "He's tender. He's sore. This one [injury] is a hard one to nurse along." Nixon had played in 89 of Boston's 100 games. Last season, he played in just 48 games because of a herniated disk in his back and a strained left thigh. He hit .315 with six homers and 23 RBI and played all seven games of the AL Championship Series and the four games of the World Series. Nixon was hoping to get through the entire season without any health problems. "I'm not going to do it," Nixon said, adding that he had spoken with several players sidelined in the past by similar injuries. "You have to be patient with it." The Red Sox can use first baseman Kevin Millar in right field and also have outfielders Hyzdu and Adam Stern. Gabe Kapler, who signed with Boston after playing sparingly in Japan this year, is on the disabled list with a back injury and eligible to return Saturday. He has been on a rehab assignment at Pawtucket. DiNardo, in his third stint with Boston this season, fills a need for a reliever after the Red Sox designated lefties Alan Embree and John Halama for assignment in the past two weeks.
  5. He's been released.. hopefully he'll make a full recovery. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2117997 Clement out of hospital after CT scans negativeESPN.com news services Related Video: Red Sox win by one run ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Boston pitcher Matt Clement was released from a hospital Wednesday, less than 24 hours after being hit in the side of the head by a line drive that knocked him off his feet. "The results of a second CT scan taken this morning were also negative, and Matt was released from the hospital this afternoon," Red Sox medical director Dr. Thomas Gill said in a statement released before the club played Tampa Bay in the finale of a three-game series. Matt Clement is apparently determined to make his next start despite Tuesday's scary line drive to the head. Gill said the 30-year-old All-Star would accompany the team back to Boston after the game and be evaluated there by the Red Sox medical staff. A source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney that Clement has told his father he intends to make his next start, scheduled for Tuesday. Clement was carted from the field after Carl Crawford's liner struck him in the right side of the head, just behind the ear, in the third inning Tuesday night. The pitcher never lost consciousness and did not sustain a concussion, manager Terry Francona said. "That had a chance to be very, very bad. What it ended up being was very, very scary," Francona said Wednesday. "All the tests seem to be coming back all in favor of him being healthy, and that's good news." Francona visited Clement at the hospital after the Red Sox rallied to beat the Devil Rays 10-9 in 10 innings Tuesday night and said the pitcher was in good spirits and talking on the telephone when he entered the room. "He laughed a lot. He was Matt. He just had a bump on his head," the manager said, adding that he was amazed Clement wasn't injured more seriously. "He had a little cut on his ear. I didn't stand over his bed, but I don't think he was really that swollen. It was amazing. ... I was really surprised." Francona said he didn't stay at the hospital long because he wanted Clement to be able to rest. He was asked what the pitcher recalled about what happened. "I don't want to speak for him," Francona said. "I just think he's getting a lot of phone calls, he's getting a lot of phone calls from friends that saw it. I'm sure he had a lot of time to lay there and think. ... I know his son watched it on TV. You try to put yourself in his shoes, that's a tough spot. That's why I wanted to talk to his wife [Tuesday night]. ... We saw him and saw that he was conscious and aware of things. But when you're family and not here, that's awful." The manager avoided watching television replays of the injury early Wednesday. "That doesn't do anything for me. ... I turned away. I don't want to see that," Francona said. Tampa Bay manager Lou Piniella was relieved to hear there was no concussion. "It's a dangerous thing. It scares the heck out of you. It shows you how defenseless a pitcher is at times," Piniella said. Crawford, who wound up with a RBI single when the ball caromed off Clement's head into left field, planned to try to reach the pitcher and talk to him. "You never want to see something like that," Crawford said. "I hope the best for him. Hopefully, he's going to recover well."
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Actually, this is a who cares issue, the thread is about what kind of job Dolgin is doing. Thanks for getting it back on track Jim.. Anymore thoughts...? Constructive ones anyway.. :rolly
  7. Pretty good.. until his arm started falling off. :-(
  8. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) Exactly, if she was referring to Carmen doing play-by-play--and, to her credit, I don't think she was--she couldn't have been further from the truth. To quote Hawk: "You were the best rookie I've ever heard in the booth." On more than a few occasions, Hawk has told Carmen he has a bright future in the world of broadcasting. I didn't hear him do one game so I have no idea. All I know is the job was his.. after the last time he did it they went after Dolgin.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) The infamous interview between Silverman, DeFalco and Jerry Reinsdorf took place on Opening Day, quickman and I listened to it on the way to the game. DeFalco had done some color and play-by-play with Harrelson for a few spring training games and by all accounts, held his own. In that interview, it was clearly Silverman who was pushing Reinsdorf's buttons, so I'd seriously doubt Reinsdorf would have much of an issue with DeFalco. Carmen is pretty easy going, whereas Silverman could be described as less than easygoing. By all accounts from the Sox.. he sucked. And you're right on the interview. Sorry bout that Josh.
  10. We all know what you did... "I dated a girl before who would do it only when eating out because calories in restaurant food where much greater than her normal diet. I said as long as I see you eat healthy food & you promise me that you will not upchuck the healthy stuff I won't bother you about it."

    Ancient Rome..

    QUOTE(zach61 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) Can you show proof that it wasn't built in a day? Everybody keeps saying it wasn't, but has that ever been proven? I think Jugghead should enlighten us all and tell us why Rome wasn't built in a day. I wonder if a central force also built Rome in 7 days and that's why we got the phrase that Rome wasn't built in a day. Ugh.. please.. not another ruined thread.
  12. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) makes no sense because that was opening day right? and Dolgin got the job before opening day. No, it wasn't. It was in the spring way before Bryan was named as Dave's replacement.
  13. Hmm.. what's with celebrating like they just won the series..? Are they not aware of their record..???
  14. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) I'll be damned. I second the question, why? No idea.. they didn't explain.
  15. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) Yes. I'll make another with your favorite beverage if you'd like. Just let me know what. Hmmm.. Cosmo would look good in there.. LOL

    Laguna Beach..

    QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) Exactly. On another note, Big Brother 6 has been REALLY good this summer. Lots of backstabbing and it is only week 3. Good premise as each house guest has a secret partner in the house, but everyone pretty much has figured them out on their own. I was gonna ask if anyone was watching that.. I saw the first night, then the last 5 minutes last night. I thought they were voting that Kazar guy off the first week..??? Too many reality shows on. :wacko
  18. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) HE GONE!!! JENKS 4 PREZ! Thief!!
  19. Ya know.. we wouldn't have this problem - facing Sweeney and stressing about it - if we'd just get him on the Sox..
