  1. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) I need some advice here. Do you guys think tomorrow night's game will be played. If I decide to go I will be fired from my job (it's a s***ty job anyways) but I don't want to be fired to go sit in the rain all night. Why don't you wait to make a decision until tomorrow..??
  2. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) I hear ya, unfortunately, fair weather fan's and tourist's $$ can add up at the box office. I'm not one of the whiners, I only bring it up here cuz we're among Sox fans. I'm aloof to it outside of this board. For the reason alone that we do not rely on tourist and fairweather fan $$ to support this team is where I thank God Jerry and Co run this team. Any other team who DID depend on that revenue and didn't know how to make it work without it would be so far in debt the team would go under. There is a method to the madness of how they spend...
  3. QUOTE(Spiff @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) Seattle and Boston did a doubleheader last Sunday, on a getaway day for the Mariners who had a game in New York the next night. Boston and NY are how far apart..? Not that it matters.. there will be no need for a double.
  4. QUOTE(Spiff @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) He worded that a bit confusingly to me. 229 feet x 12 inches/foot = 2,748 inches. So if you add four inches to that, then the bigger tower is 2,752 inches. It's not really the difference between the height of the towers, but the height of the tallest tower. I think he wants it an inch tall for each victim... but was wrong on the feet. Thought was in the right place..
  5. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Niether did I.....babe Did I say you did...?
  6. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) OK then drop it lady I didn't bring it up... kid.
  7. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) Bottom Line is that Ponson is really over-rated if you like it or not. Actually the bottom line is I couldn't care less. :rolly
  8. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) Unfortunately, most people do not think for themselves. This is why Sox bashing frustrates me. Enough people will read that kind of garbage and think: well, if a guy who is an expert thinks so, it must be true. It's a lot easier to go with what's popular than to try to figure out what you really enjoy for yourself. When I started forking over my own $$ for season tickets I used to think this way and it used to piss me off to no end hearing people say "why would you bother to waste your $$ going to that crime filled neighborhood to watch that s***ty team..." A good 6 years it took before I let it go. I agree a lot of folks don't bother to experience Comiskey for themselves and just listen to the news and other idots like Jay who don't go (or in Jay's case aren't allowed.. ). But then I think.. "hey.. better off without those fairweather assholes". This weekend will be a good test. 80K bought tickets to boo Sosa (and they called ME stupid for spending my $$... :rolly ) hopefully they will still come and enjoy themselves. And if not... I have no problem with that either since we got their $$ either way.
  9. http://www.kstptv5.com/article/stories/S8204.html?cat=1 HAYWARD, Wis. (AP) - A Minnesota man accused of fatally shooting six deer hunters and wounding two others in northwestern Wisconsin can receive a fair trial in Sawyer County, prosecutors argued Wednesday. In documents filed in Sawyer County Circuit Court, Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager said Chai Soua Vang and his attorneys have not produced sufficient evidence to warrant a change of venue. Vang's attorneys filed motions in March seeking to move the September trial, contending racial prejudice and overwhelming media publicity would prevent the Hmong man from getting a fair trial. Lautenschlager also asked a judge to limit the number of cameras in the courtroom during Vang's September trial and to ban people from taking pictures or videotaping witnesses who do not want to be photographed. "The state will identify the witnesses who have requested that their images not be recorded or photographed or their voices recorded," the attorney general wrote in her motions filed Wednesday. Vang's attorneys say media reports have referred to the shootings as the "Columbine of the Northwoods" and the area's "own 9/11" - publicity so prejudicial Vang cannot get a fair and impartial trial in the area, according to their motions, which refer to the Colorado school shootings of 1999 and the terrorist attacks of 2001. In a 28-page response to the defense motion, Lautenschlager argued Vang submitted few examples of prejudicial publicity and he made only general allegations of community prejudice against him. The media coverage of the killings was mostly informational and not inflammatory, although it obviously aroused strong emotions, prosecutors wrote. Vang failed to show the extensive media coverage has "utterly corrupted the trial atmosphere such as to constitute a constitutional violation," prosecutors said. "While Vang may seek an uninformed jury, he is not entitled to one. The Constitution only guarantees him an unbiased one." Vang also has not provided sufficient evidence to show Sawyer County residents are racially prejudiced against him, prosecutors said. "The mere fact that racist comments have been made by some extremely small number of persons in no way establishes that Sawyer County residents generally hold such views or that they cannot be fair and impartial jurors," prosecutors said. Lautenschlager said even if the judge decides the jury should come from another county, the trial should stay in Sawyer County to accommodate the victims' families and the many prosecution witnesses, who include two survivors of the shootings and several other witnesses. Circuit Court Judge Norman Yackel scheduled a hearing on the motions for June 8. Vang, of St. Paul, Minn., has pleaded not guilty to murdering six hunters and wounding two others after a confrontation over trespassing Nov. 21. Vang told investigators one of the white hunters fired the first shot after taunting Vang with racial slurs, a claim two of the survivors denied, according to court records. In other documents filed Wednesday, prosecutors also opposed Vang's attempt to ban them from using an alleged confession Vang gave to investigators the day after his arrest. None of Vang's constitutional rights were violated in obtaining the statements, prosecutors said. "Vang wrote that he wished to speak to investigators and he did not want a lawyer," according to the documents filed Wednesday. Vang initially told investigators at the Sawyer County Jail he didn't want to talk to them and wanted to see a lawyer and then he changed his mind and later signed a confession, court documents said. "This was not the product of a coercive environment," prosecutors wrote Wednesday, "in which investigators utilized mental stratagems to induce a statement. Rather, Vang's statement was the product of his free and unconstrained will." Vang, who speaks fluent English, was read his Miranda rights twice, and he voluntarily made incriminating comments, including that he ran after some of the victims and shot them in the back, prosecutors said. Vang is being held in Sawyer County Jail in lieu of $2.5 million bail. In other documents filed Wednesday, prosecutors: -Opposed a defense motion seeking to seal a separate motion of unknown content. Prosecutors asked the judge to order that the document be unsealed. Attorneys for Vang submitted a sealed envelope in March, saying that keeping the content secret was "necessary to ensure the integrity of the defense pretrial investigation." -Opposed a defense motion to throw out one of two counts of attempted murder of Lauren Hesebeck. Prosecutors said Vang tried to kill Hesebeck in two separate incidents. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vang, who speaks fluent English, was read his Miranda rights twice, and he voluntarily made incriminating comments, including that he ran after some of the victims and shot them in the back, prosecutors said. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seems like it will be fair to me.
  10. "I’d use the original blueprints and design the “new” Trade Center exactly as it had been. But I’d insist that one of the towers be exactly 229 feet, four inches shorter than the other. It’s an uncomplicated gimmick to guarantee remembrance. Because, as long as these new towers would stand, someone unaware would ask, “why is one of them shorter than the other?” Whereupon an old-timer could explain, solemnly, that the difference between the heights of the towers is intentional - it’s exactly 2,752 inches. One inch for each of the victims. It’s all the memorial we really need." That gave me chills..
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) I just want to say, can you imagine if Frank had said this? The guillotine would be on standby waiting for him to return to town...

    Wow.. just wow. :headshake
  13. QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) That's what makes it so frustrating. These national figures have no clue what's going on. Rob, pull your head out of your ass & write like a grown up! Eh.. don't let it frustrate ya. In the end they are the one that look like fools.

    Yay! All done!

    Congrats Alex!!!
  15. QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) I like all these cracks on the stadium. Uh, when was the last time you were there? Did you know they invested the royalities from the naming rights back into the stadium? $60 or $80 million (i don't remember the exact figure). Alot has changed since since its opening. I'm sick of these guys and their pissing match over Boston, the Yanks, & the Chubbies. Those comments make me laugh the most.. it's like arguing with a 2 year old who's final comment is always.... "oh yea....... well... I'm tellin mom".
  16. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 12, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Yea Ponson is so deadly with that 4.93 ERA, getting lit up by Tampa twice.... but yea he's good :rolly The Sox just lost to Tampa twice..
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 12, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) Dotel will be traded by the deadline (once his stock rises again)... I don't know where you saw/heard that, but if you did see it somewhere, can ya post it? I think it was his opinion.. But I agree with you. I think he'll go first.
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 12, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) The Pontiac thing isn't BRAND new, I know opening day and the few other times I have been to the park this season, there are Pontiac cars up on the Funds deck. Nice to see some more sponsership coming are way. That's what I was just thinking.. Maybe they just waited to announce both at the same time.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ May 12, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) I think they'll play tonight. As do I.
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ May 12, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Again, i don't think the weather will preclude getting these games in, but if it came down to it ... Orioles would likely choose to play two vs. making a seperate trip to Chicago. I doubt the Sox would give up the home game and play it in Baltimore. OK
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ May 12, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) But seeing as the Orioles are off Monday, squeezing in two is possible. Bla, bla, bla, bla.... :rolly
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 12, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) THe most unfortunate thing is we don't get to knock around Ponson this weekend. (Sorry Steff.) Yea.. him and his 5-1 would be such a breeze..
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) I didn't know it was supposed to rain all weekend. If thats the case your probably right. Although If the weather is nice on Sunday they could try to squeeze in two. Not a chance of a double on Sunday. Baltimore will never agree to a double on get away day.. nor should they.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) Wouldn't they want to double here cause the Sox would be losing out on revenue if they waited. Unless of course the Sox somehow get the ticket sales from then. I just figure they'll do all they can to get all 4 games played here. MLB rarely has a team play an extra road game unless it has to (for example if the weather is bad this entire weekend and one or two games get cancelled, then they'll try and make something for it). Heck, a lot of the time they'll even schedule a game on an off day (something I hate cause it puts teams all out of whack). Hopefully all the games get in and its nothing to worry about cause double dips can be a bummer especially if you end up getting a couple in a row (murders your pitching staff). Anything is possible.. but it's supposed to rain here tonight, tomorrow night, and Saturday. They wont double on Sunday because it's get away day. All depends on the weather I suppose.
  25. http://enews.earthlink.net/article/nat?gui...505121280409426 May 12, 2005 9:41 AM EDT MIAMI - A homeless man who was stabbed to death this week is being praised as a hero for stepping in to save the life of a downtown restaurant owner. Kelcy Ruiz, 32, died Monday night after intervening to defend Melida Murillo during a knife attack at her Colombian restaurant Mama Leonor. Another homeless man, 43-year-old Tyrone Daniel Clark, is being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and armed robbery. Ruiz, described by relatives as a crack cocaine addict who lived mainly on Miami's downtown streets, did occasional work for Murillo in exchange for food. Police say he died struggling with Murillo's attacker, probably saving her life. "He may have been a street person but he was heroic," said Detective Delrish Moss, spokesman for the Miami Police Department. "Even though he was a forgotten member of society, he acted better than most people who are not homeless." Ruiz's uncle, Francisco Colon, described his nephew as "a lost soul" who had emigrated from Honduras four years ago in hopes of kicking his drug habit and finding work. "I'm a little proud that he died giving someone in need a hand," Colon said. Clark, who is also homeless, was among about 2,000 registered sexual offenders who had skipped out from monitoring required by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He was arrested in Miami on drug charges in March but was released, apparently because officials did not realize he had absconded from the registry. Bitter sweet..
