  1. No your right, the ACT is an alternative version instead of taking the SAT. I think more and more schools are going towards it. Your also right in regards to college not being for everyone. How recent is this..? 5 years? Definitely not 10 years. Back then the ACT wasn't even a required test.
  2. Maybe now. 10 years ago...?? it was all within last 1-4 years ago. So perhaps it was required 10 years ago..? I did mention that in the start of this mess 10 years ago you did have to have SAT scores to get into anything other than community college - because I honestly believed that to be the case when I was graduating HS. Maybe things have changed? Money hungry college bastards. All they want is the $$ anyway.
  3. Yea, yea, yea... Wind Sock Brando I called you one cause I can
  4. So they didn't take the SAT ot the ACT..? You definitely have to have one or the other. And, as I said, I just typed what I was told. Now stop being an asshole.
  5. Ass!! You're not the only one allowed to make typo's ya know! :fyou
  6. This is what I was just told.. State public schools will accept without SAT IF you have ACT over 37, better than a B average, and acceptable refrence letters. ALL private schools require the SAT. North Western is a private school. This info came from a parent who's son attends there (finishing his 3rd year right now). I swear this is news to me. I always thought you had to take the SAT's to get into college.
  7. In 1990 it was the case. The only colleges you didn't need to take the SAT's for was community college. In Illinois anyway. DePaul drfinitely required them. Half of our V-Ball team went there and I remember the huge fiasco when they had a tourney the day of the test. They had to get special permission to take it the following Saturday - they were in the state finals. They won! And I can't imagine North Western NOT requiring it. I have a few co-workers who's kids go there. I'm going to ask. I went to St Xavier which is a private catholic college.. they required it.
  8. Hey brando, a word to the wise. Steff maybe hot but you havent even seen her yet, dont get carried away. Geez, I bet dykes at my school claim to be hot but I can assure you they arent. No comparison meant by that, steff... If it wasn't meant to be a shot, then why bother to add your comments?
  9. And thanks for the explination on the SAT's & getting into college. They didn't even have the SAT2 when I was in HS.. LOL. I feel so old.
  10. LOL.. Try explaining accruals to someone who knows nothing about accounting and the looks on their faces is priceless. "Why not just put everything in the right month the first time". Oh if business ran that smoothly, life would be a lot easier. I also love it trying to explain EBITDA. Or depreciation and amortization. Or why (and how) you calculate the tax provisions. Oye.. my head is spinning.. ahh yes, Depreciation Expense and Ammortization on loans and such. Yep that stuff royally sucks. Does your company use Accrural Accounting? If so I'm assuming its cause its publicly traded? Also, to go into any college (4 year) you have to take SAT's unless you transfer from a 2 year (Junior College) or at least I'm pretty sure its everyone. There could be some exceptions. Some schools also require you to take SATII's although I think not as many of them are doing that. I know when I took them all 2/3 years ago, things were really changing and some people though there would be a new standardized test or that the ACT would get bigger. I never took the ACT but I heard it was an easier test. All I know is the SAT sucked cause I had to get up at like 6 am to take the damn test and I was up till midnight the night before having fun. I wasn't about to ruin my freaking weekend. The other reason they sucked was because so many people cheated the test by taking all those damn classes where they give you the answers. Screw that, just take the test and see how you do, thats my theory, lol. I've learned they weren't all that important. The grades you get once in college appear to be more important, but I could change that opinion once I'm out and into the real world, but I doubt it. Hell, highschool was for slacking off. Yes we do accruals. But it's the nature of the business and not that we're public. Transportation services rarely, if ever, are paid less than 45 days. So we have no choice. We've been private for over 100 years. Not too likely we'll go public anytime soon.
  11. No. But ours does a good job at raising eyebrows almost every time he opens his mouth.
  12. I love to hear people try to figure it out before they look it up. You'd piss your pants at some of the stuff people come up with. I had to interview this girl a while back. She thought she was so smart. On her application she called it "earnings before imputing taxes and departmental accruals". That just doesn't even come close to making any sort of sense. No one believed me. I had to show them the application. Sad thing.. our CEO wanted to hire her anyway
  13. Yes, it's an acronym. And I'd love to hear Roman's definition

  15. The quarters suck, too. But not as bad since the monthly info flows into them. The year ends I don't mess with. They hire an outside firm to do that. But I still have to supply all the info and if it's wrong my ass is grass. The monthly stuff is the worst because we have reporting deadlines. If I miss those, I'm screwed. And the accruals are never right. A lot of staff accountants are morons and don't care if they mess up. So I get to clean up after them.
  16. NW = North Western? Someone correct me if I am wrong but in order to get into college you HAVE to take it, right? That's the way I remember it in 1990.
  17. Nice work, thats right around what I got. Jebus, who knew they'd be so many future MENSAs on Soxtalk! My g/f got 35 on her ACT and consistently averaged 1400+ on her practice SATs. a few years back, but decided not to take it. Fortunately, I am totally secure in my intellectual mediocrity... Why didn't she take it..? I thought I was going to bomb it. I was not a good test taker at all. I scored real high on the math. I nearly fell off the chair when I saw the results. But before that I was unsure what I was going to "do". I blame those test results 100% on my end of month b****yness at work Month end closings SUCK!
  18. No idea. No. But it was a long time ago and I've changed.
  19. Great Job!!! Any idea where you are going to college?
  20. BRANDO, I think we can compare ourself to eachother....AS nothing we do or say makes sense BE GOOD In english please..?
  21. Well you asked.. And I was going to tell you why.. but I erased it. Just too easy. Good luck.. you're going to need it.
  22. How do you know who I am..? Stephanie B., does it really matter? Oh, from that. I'm not "B" anymore so no big deal. I thought you knew what I looked like more reciently. That was a long time ago...
