bin laden speaks - saddam power's crumbling
No way. Canada makes waaaaay too much $$ off the US. Their movie industry alone has grown over 250% in the last 4 years. And the restrictions they have that no US citizens can work when a Canadian is avaliable to do the job.. genius! The average yearly wage alone has risen 13% per household over there thanks to us and the jobs we make over there. The only thing they are concerned about is looking for a piece of plastic big enough to separate the borders.

Sounds like the crew of Columbia was aware.
http://www.msnbc.com/news/869294.asp This article seems to imply that during a meeting about the possible damage at takeoff, a crew member was listening in and agreed with the decision that the damage was minimal and likely would not cause an issue...

Sorry About It, But...
Hmm.. do we have the same source HSC..? When I asked about this one I got a HUGE laugh and was told "Jose?!?! KW's in LOVE with him!!".

How many times do you go to Comiskey
As of right now definite 34 games (all weekdays - easier to go straight from work). We usually do at least 1 weekend a month and then there's the Cleveland, Detroit, and Baltimore trips. Last year we went to 47 not including the All Star game. Probably about the same this year.

There is always ice on the external fuel takes from the nitrogen. I did hear about the lightning.. but I think that's a bit far fetched..

An Indians troll? I am glad that you got away from letting your mom stuff your juicy red starfruit with her 9 inch dick for a little bit to post here. I am wondering though how you would rub laughter into our wounds. Maybe swallowing so much cum, like you have, might have clogged your neural connections just a bit. Listen, asspope, why don't you go watch your incredibly s***-tastic team who will be dwelling in the basement of the division with such talented teams as the Royals and Tigers. Thanks so much for Bartolo as well, it will be quite amusing to watch him and the rest of the White Sox beat the redneck dumbf*** s***eating son of a he-whore sisterf***ing cocksmoking b****es (aka the Cleveland Indians) So, sir, with all due respect, Go suck a f*** and choke while eating a tampon, you goddamn douchebag. K thx. OK.. that was completely disgusting. Don't be like the troll. Have some class.

Ceramic is the only substance able to sustain the heat. Everything else acts as a conductor for the heat rather than a dissapator (sp?). The ceramic actually absorbes and dispurses (if that makes any sense) the heat evenly from the middle out to and off the sides of the shuttle rather than it getting too hot in one place and melting.

Columbia tragedy curiosity...
From what I've been told (and read) they all lost some during every launch. There was simply no sure way to keep them all on. Though they did make sure the ones in the crutial areas were on as best they could pre launch. My uncle said back in '97 they were testing 6X6 tiles that would actually be attached to the undershield with "fastners" but that failed because of the risk of heat getting under them and burning it up that way too. The reason why they use the smaller tiles is because even though they do fall off.. more of them stay on then with the bigger sizes. I'm with Chisoxfn.. maybe one big one? But then where do they produce it and how do they attach it. Currently they are produced in a oven similar to a pottery oven at temperatures in excess of 3500 degrees. Can you imagine the size that oven would have to be? And how on earth would they handle something so big to ensure that it made it's way onto the shuttle without compromising it's intregrity (i.e.. not enduring any cracks, bubbles, etc.). I can't imagine the pressure these guys are under to attempt to guarantee safety. But as with anything humans are involved in.. nothing is 100% safe.

Excellent story. So it seems that it's not specifically that the tiles are damaged or lost.. but where those that are damaged or lost are located. That's kinda what I was getting. Obviously if the tiles damaged near the wheel well were damaged and that's a "crutial" area, it would definitely cause more of a concern and possibly add to a catastrophic disaster. My uncle went to Houston yesterday and before that he's been "locked down" since Saturday. My cousin said he's due home tonight and although he can't really talk about what he knows.. maybe he can help us to understand the entire situation a little better. Thanks for the link SI1020.

I'm not an engineer but it seems that something caused the ship to lose it's heat shielding ability upon reentry into the earth's atmosphere. Degraded or missing heat shielding tiles is the current theory among the "experts." OK.. I guess that's where it's a bit confusing because I've heard them reporting that on almost every mission they have lost tiles - sometimes many of them (my uncle confirms this as he has heard the same thing in the past). From what I'm gathering.. it's the fact that something (foam from the external gas tank?) hit the area where the landing gear is housed - which was an extremely vulnerable spot as it was hollow and not as reinforced as the rest of the wing - and compromised the intregity of that area.. which then got to hot from the inside inside.. which then caused the tiles to "burn" off from the inside out. Does that make any sense? Does anyone have any knowledge if this scenero is a possibility?

Columbia tragedy curiosity...
Guys.. wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the explinations on what they are saying "might" have happened..? I don't know too much about the way things work up there. Mostly my uncle just told me the "fun" stuff and nothing technical. Anyone have any insight into what might have caused the accident?

GROSS THOUGHT
Actually, they can eat regularly, but I read it's uncomfortable. But they do turn upside-down to drink. I'm sure all of this info is on the NASA FAQ's page if you really want to know details When I lived in Florida we took a field trip to Kennedy and I remember learning all about this stuff. And my uncle is in the Air Force and got to go up in the plane that does the zero gravity training a few times and told me about it.

GROSS THOUGHT
LOL.. too funny!!! The truth of the matter is this.. they have a suctioned collection unit. They each have individual "hoses" that they go in. And then it is expelled out of the shuttle. So yep.. there's a whole lotts s*** flying around up there.

My Soxfest adventure
I thought the garage sale was a bit light this year, too. But I didn't go last year so it didn't effect me too much. I did however notice that there were some rude vendors there. I tried asking a few questions about the All Star merchandise and unless I wanted to know about the $1500 jacket.. they barely looked my way. Also.. HSC.. We don't go to Jimbo's because they "do" anything. We simply met there to have a few beers. The tailgating sounds like fun. Should be able to make it this year with the game being at 3 so I'll plan on it. Thanks for the invite.

My Soxfest adventure
Well I knew it would happen.. after all we skipped lunch Friday.. Got there about 6ish.. the line was soooo long. Met our neighbors and ran into the store to buy a few beers to drink in line. And, of course, the minute we opened them, the line moved at the speed of light. Leaving us to down all 6 beers in about 4 minutes. Got in, got another beer. So needless to say.. before we even boarded the escilator (sp?) down, I was feeling pretttty darn good :-) Did the usual walk around and Ooo'ing and Ahh'ing. Went into the Q & A at 8 with KW & company. I swear I recognized many of you (we were sitting 2 rows behind the 1st microphone - where there first guy to ask "A" question asked 5). I thought the MB appearance was planned and retarded. If he was going to come in at all, he could have stayed longer than 10 seconds. He was getting a ovation.. and he just walked out. IMO, it was rude. But anyway. We scooted out of there as DJ said they were only taking a few more questions.. made our way to the bar to get a table. We had quite a group going there for a while. I think there was 7 or 8 of us. I lost count after the 5th or 6th Cosmo . Some pictures were taken , so I'm sure the'll be circulating soon. I'm sorry I missed you guys on Saturday morning, but Jim finally caught the cold I've been fighting and being out drinking late the night before was not a good thing. Are there any plans for getting together before the start of the season? If not.. how about opening day at Jimbo's? Anyway, hope everyone had a great time.

OK Let the fight begin
LDF.. you're not. Which is why I said he'll get reminded when he get's down to AZ. Right or wrong on the principal... it was just the same as Paul speaking out about Frank... What did it take him.. 6 hours to apologize? I kinda see this as a slap in the face. Ill bet Kenny Williams does too. And since KWs the guy in charge, hes gonna win. I wonder if KW could get so pissed that he actually demoted MB for a season or something. Youd have to be truly insane but ya never know. Some people myself included are just quick to anger... KW may be the GM.. but don't be fooled, JR is the man in charge. Just like with Frank.. Kenny will never win that battle either.

Sox Fest
Do I hafta have OJ..?? We'll be there tonight in the bar about 9:30 (or earlier depending on the KW meeting) if anyone is interested in meeting tonight. Jim and I are both wearing black jeans. I'm wearing a white sweater with black stripes on the top half and Jim is wearing a white White Sox embroidered (sp?) polo. Otherwise (hopefully if we don't get wrecked tonight), we'll be there for breakfast in the morning.
