  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) Ok, if you dont like the WNBA, there is no need to come into this thread and insult the sport. That doesnt make personal attacks ok, but if all you have to say in this thread is something that equates to "this sport sucks" and degrade the quality of the athletes, then dont enter the thread. Thats it. Only took five pages for this post to be made when it was clear from post 2 that's how people were going to reply... Lynx stomped the Mercury tonight to open up the Western Conference Finals... one game away from the Finals
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) That right there would be a suspendable offense if any mods bothered to enter this pathetic thread. I can't believe I clicked it.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) This right here is the epitome of excitement. If you can't get up for something like this then you just aren't a fan of sports or entertainment. Yeah, how dare fans get off their feet to cheer when their team just won a playoff game. Jesus christ you're stupid.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) Eh, her character fits into the show well. I know she isn't the most popular or anything, but up until Walt went into the meth business, it makes sense that his wife would be a bit more strong minded than he would. It also makes sense that they would fight for power now. Let me just clarify that I don't hate Skylar and I have no problems with her being involved in the business like she is. However, the plotline with Benneke is obvious and moronic. There's no reason for it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 07:36 AM) -The curveball with Beneke was awesome. You could have figured he would go settle with the IRS, instead he buys himself a new Mercedes and reopens the business. That whole plotline is obvious and stupid. OF COURSE he wasn't going to settle with the IRS. He's not that type of person. That was the only bad part of last night's episode. The rest (especially the stuff with the cartel) was amazing.

I'll say that the Skylar s*** is awful and stupid as hell, but the rest of that episode was pretty damn awesome, especially the ending.

    Holy f*** Breaking Bad
  9. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 06:55 PM) why is she going for a layup after the buzzer? There was a deflection with like 6 seconds left on the clock, so she was just trying to finish the breakaway. Obviously she didn't really have to, but I'm not one to fault her for the effort.

QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Totally agree. "Originality" in music is almost impossible, based on the fact that for anyone musician to pick up a guitar or write lyrics they are usually inspired by OTHER music to do so. Whatever influences them as an artist will more than likely show up in the music they write and perform. There's a HUGE difference between being inspired by something and creating an original sound. Just because someone is inspired by something doesn't mean that they need to make a sound that's nearly identical. Personally, the ability to set yourself apart and create a unique sound is incredibly important. I get tired of bands sounding alike. It's boring. Anyone can pick up a guitar, play three chords over and over again and sound like any new Green Day song. I'd much rather listen to a band that at least puts forth the effort to sound different. Mostly for these reasons, I'm not a fan of pop music or the radio, and I realize it's just me, but listening to the same general thing over and over again gets old quick.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) My feeling is that there's as much "good music" and as much "crappy music" as there's ever been. I just think that there may be too much music and too many ways to access it. It makes it harder to find the stuff that will grab you, but if you're willing to search it's still out there. I guess my point wasn't so much that the music nowadays isn't good, because there certainly is plenty of good music if you're willing to work. However, the lack of creativity nowadays is just damn depressing. Even the good stuff nowadays lacks a unique sound that separates it from its peers. It's been a long, long time since I've heard a band with a truly unique sound.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) After missing the tour the first time around a couple of years ago and being devastated over it, I finally got to see Zappa Plays Zappa on the Tour de Frank tour last night and it was awesome. I would have liked seeing the old FZ bandmates like Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ike Willis, Steve Vai, etc., in the last incarnation, but the new lineup with the young players was really incredible. The marimba player in particular was brilliant. As a bonus, ZpZ was on a twin bill with Return to Forever who I have wanted to see live for a long time. Chick Corea was great (He sat in on King Kong with the Dweezil band, and I got to meet him after the show), and there are no words to describe how amazing Stanley Clarke is. An additional treat is that Jean-Luc Ponty is part of the curent FtF lineup, and it has been more than 20 years since I had seen him play live. Best live music experience in a long time. Awesome. Glad you go to see it, it's a really great show. I missed it this time around, but I've seen it twice before, so I don't feel too bad about it. Really amazing to see how well they duplicate Frank's sound. On a somewhat related note: Why does new music completely blow? Don't get me wrong, I like a handful of newer bands, but it's really, really rare that I'll listen to a new group and find a unique sound. A large percent of the music that's on the radio nowadays makes it seem like everyone has decided to retread the same sound album after album, song after song. I get that people like pop music, but jesus christ how about an original thought for once?

  19. I'm a couple hours into it and have had a lot of fun. The PC release was/is a little wonky (apparently some idiot released a beta version instead of the real one initially and now they're having some minor issues patching it), but I've enjoyed the gameplay despite that. It's definitely a little rough around the edges, but it's a solid game.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) He's like the 10th actor from Deadwood to appear on SOA. Yeah, I know. For some reason, he's the one that bugs me the most. Probably because I've haven't seen him in anything else. Either that or I have issues with crazy priests. Probably a little bit of both, actually.

Holy s***, I seriously can't picture Ray McKinnon in a different role than the one he played in Deadwood. His presence in the new SoA is really freaking me out.
  22. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) In 2000 (the first example I looked at), 6 of the top 9 teams went to the postseason. Edit: In 2001, 6 of the top 11 teams went to the postseason. Between 1995 and 2005, the correlation between market size and playoff appearances is .11, meaning markets have very little to do with a team making the postseason. While this isn't exactly what you're saying, I think it still applies pretty well, especially since most people associate big market teams with big payrolls. Again, not exactly what you're going for, but if you go by the teams with the top revenue, the correlation is .51, which is naturally significantly higher, but it's also much more misleading since teams in the playoffs make more money than those that miss the postseason. I think the first correlation is more along the lines of what you're going for. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. That being said, looking at more than individual years would certainly strengthen your argument. Wake me up when you've looked at the last 10-20 seasons.
