  1. Massively disappointing start to the season for the Gophers. The offense has been awful, and our young guys haven't progressed nearly as much as expected. This year could be a lot longer than previously expected.
  2. Good second half for the Illini. Unfortunately, it looks like the rest of the games are going the way of the ACC.
  3. It worked for Illinois, why not Michigan? Thanks for nothing, Michigan/
  4. Michigan really needs to come back in the second if the Big 10 wants any chance of winning the challenge this year. Otherwise, it's just another year of failure Gophers appear to be up 5 at the half. I sure wish I could watch this game instead of the crappy Illinois game, but alas.
  5. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Left 4 Dead 2 is awesome. It's nothing ground breaking, but its fun as hell. You can now use melee weapons. I posted that a couple days after it was released and no one bit. Still, it's a fantastic game.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Big shock, I was one of the four without the beatles on my list: 1. Bright Eyes 2. Jimmy Eat World 3. Alkaline Trio 4. The Killers 5. Manchester Orchestra 6. Green Day 7. Death Cab for Cutie 8. Alice in Chains 9. Weezer 10. The Dillinger Escape Plan 11. Thrice 12. Dredg 13. Every Time I Die 14. Machine Head 15. Nirvana 16. Soundgarden 17. Thursday 18. Angels & Airwaves 19. Muse 20. The Gaslight Anthem You and I both had Muse at #19, but I think that's where the similarities end
  7. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) That's better. btw, if you own the 1972 Wazoo concert album, take a listen to Variant I Processional March after Regyptian Strut. You might not have caught he evolution of that one. Can't say I've got that one. I'll have to track it down sometime.. always looking for more Zappa
  8. My list: 1. Frank Zappa 2. The Beatles 3. Jimi Hendrix 4. Bob Dylan 5. The Who 6. Sly and the Family Stone 7. Nirvana 8. Led Zeppelin 9. The Kinks 10. Pink Floyd 11. Talking Heads 12. The Pixies 13. The Rolling Stones 14. Queens of the Stone Age 15. Rush 16. Blue Oyster Cult 17. That Handsome Devil 18. The Velvet Underground 19. Muse 20. Ween In retrospect, I probably would have put the Doors on there before Ween (although Ween is awesome). I've got the Stones fairly low on this list, but that probably wouldn't change.
  9. Nice.. a Captain Beefheart sighting. He wasn't on my list, but I thought about him (mostly for his work on Zappa's albums, although Trout Mask Replica is pretty good).
  10. Awesome videos guys. I love watching those, even if they have awful quality.
  11. 13/20.. I'll take that But seriously, how the hell did I forget the Doors?
  12. I thought I had remembered something about the GTOs and Jeff Beck, but I've never heard their one album. I guess he was somewhat involved in their project, even if he didn't actually play anything on the album. I also did know that about Miss Cristine, although I'd be damned if I could have told you it was her instead of one of the other girls (Miss Pamela and such). I confuse them all with one another Hot Rats was actually the first Zappa album I'd ever heard. I was working at a library and I saw the CD in stock and recognized the name "Zappa" but had never heard his stuff. I promptly checked out the album and I've been hooked since.
  13. Ha, I just turned on the Mud Shark as per your lines, and what do you know? Vanilla Fudge is mentioned as telling the Mud Shark story to Don Preston. Not sure the connection to Zeppelin, but this is probably what you're getting at And duh, just re-read the Zeppelin bio and bam: So to come full circle (I think), the Mud Shark is a story about Zeppelin using a shark to pleasure a groupie, which Zappa heard about from Don Preston, who was told the story by Vanilla Fudge. I didn't know this before today, pretty funny stuff.
  14. I knew I shouldn't have posted that. To my credit, the only ABBA I've listened to is the Mamma Mia soundtrack (which I don't own or have on my computer), but it's pretty catchy stuff. I do have one ABBA song on my computer (Dancing Queen ) but it rarely gets played. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go cleanse myself with some Regyptian Strut.
  15. Just from the Zeppelin bio, my first guess would be Jeff Beck, who I know was involved with Zeppelin. I'm not familiar with the Vanilla Fudge, but he's certainly been referenced in a couple of Zappa songs, including Titties 'n' Beer and Punky's Whips (His hair is so pretty, I'd like to bite his neck, I've heard a rumor he's more fluid than Jeff Beck), both of which are great songs on a great album. I also think he played with the GTOs, but I'm not completely sure about that. Also, was just reading about Terry Bozzio, and apparently he worked with Duran Duran as well. So yeah, that's another Zappa to Duran Duran link. He also worked with Jeff Beck on some things, but I didn't know that without reading (although I should have.. I love me some Terry Bozzio; my favorite Zappa story is the one of Bozzio's audition and the subsequent creation of the Black Page.. awesome stuff)
  16. QUOTE (The Bones @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) No Clash and no Pixies = massive fail I'm pretty shocked the Pixies aren't on this list. They were certainly in my top 20, and I think they even made my top 10 (although I don't really remember). QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) This is gonna be a completely unpopular position, but I'll say it anyway. I understand what those top 4 bands did for music and that they inspired bands I listen to now etc. But I could really give a s***. I can't connect with a band that had their height in popularity and influence decades before i was born. I think it's a little weird to be 25 and the Beatles are your favorite band ever. My mom lived through Beatlemania, I could never like or appreciate that band as much as she did. I'm 22 and the majority of my favorite bands are from the 60s and 70s, and I haven't seen most of them live in concert because they were either dead or broken up during my life. And yet, there is no chance in hell I'd rank any modern band that "my generation" is supposed to enjoy. Frankly, I think most of the music that people my age listen to is crappy and annoying, save for a select few. There are some pretty good bands that aren't really talked about nowadays, but that doesn't stop me from thinking the majority of music that's out in the public (read: radio, parties, even in conversations with classmates) is just trash.
  17. I feel dirty saying it, but ABBA is one of my guilty pleasures. I saw Mamma Mia on Broadway awhile ago for my mom's birthday and really enjoyed it, despite expecting to hate it.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) Tommy is one of my top five albums ever. Fully agreed. It's behind Freak Out!, Sgt. Peppers and We're Only in it for the Money, but Quadrophenia and Tommy are probably 4 and 5 respectively.
  19. Awesome. Looks like the Who will be #2 unless they pull off a major upset. They're well deserving of a top 2 spot, great to see them get some recognition. Tommy and Quadrophenia are two of my all-time favorite albums
  20. Adrian Belew! He played for Zappa on Baby Snakes as well as with Talking Heads on Remain in Light and The Name of the Band is Talking Heads. Can't say I'm familiar with King Crimson or Laurie Anderson (although I've heard a few King Crimson songs), but I'd bet he's the guy.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) Whoa, the Who will not make the top 50?? That's crazy. I wouldn't count them out yet, but if they don't make it something is wrong.
  22. Weird Al cites Zappa as an influence, and parodied him with the song "Genius in France."
