  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Frank Zappa to David Lee Roth Something tells me there's a Steve Vai connection there, but I don't know when it happened.
  2. Well it's obviously Warren Cuccurullo then, but Colaiuta also has a link to Duran Duran. According to his wiki page at least, he was involved with Duran Duran's self titled album (aka The Wedding Album). He apparently played drums for one track on the album, while Cuccurullo was the lead guitarist. On that note, I don't understand how someone goes from making music with Zappa to Duran Duran. Talk about polar opposites. Here's a tough one (I think at least, I only found out about it via wiki): Zappa and John Mayer I'm not sure how legit the connection is, but Mayer was a guest on an album which a former Zappa band member was also a guest.
  3. Didn't Zappa get a couple of the guys from the Turtles to play with the Mothers in the early 70s? I think they might have been involved with 200 Motels, but I can't be certain about that. I know Ringo was also involved with that (as you previously mentioned), and I'm pretty sure Keith Moon was as well.
  4. Minnesota is playing for third in the 76 Classic tomorrow night against Texas A&M. Hopefully the offense decides to show up. If we play as poorly as we did against Portland, we aren't going to win.
  5. Good game for Portland. I can't help but be frustrated at some of the s*** the Gophers did near the end of the game when they still had a chance, but hopefully they'll learn from their stupid decisions and actually keep their composure in the future.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) Minnesota-Portland coming down to the wire. Our offense has just been godawful tonight. Portland is playing some good defense, but we're missing some open shots too.
  7. Rough first half for Minnesota against Portland tonight, trailing 33-27 at the break. Portland has played pretty well, but I'm thinking our offense will come around some in the second. Otherwise, this game could end poorly for the Gophers.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Bah, you picked probably the lamest Foo Fighters song to link to. Fact. Their recent stuff is fairly awful, despite the early stuff being good.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) Did Zappa really take a dump on stage? No. The actual rumor is that he ate a s*** on stage to win a "gross out" contest (whatever that is), but it's also false. In his autobiography, he says that the closest he ever came to eating a s*** was at a buffet at a North Carolina Holiday Inn.
  10. Awesome thread, even if I can't get most of these basically due to not knowing all the members in these other bands. For the ones I don't know, I'm definitely heading onto wiki to get some more random Zappa factoids to learn
  11. Huge win for the Gophers tonight over Butler. It was an ugly game thanks to some awful refs, but a win is a win, especially against a top 10 opponent on a neutral court. Plus, considering we were playing with a short bench thanks to the suspensions, so this was a really huge win. Damian Johnson had a down game defensively, but scored 18 and looked pretty damn good around the basket all night. Devoe Joseph was great off the bench as usual, and really came up big for most of the second when Nolen was out of the game thanks to fouls.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Saw "The Blindside" last night. Thought it was fantastic. Sandra Bullock was looking better than I have seen her in a while. the book >>>>>>>>>>> the movie There's no chance I'm going to see the movie after reading the book. It looks like they basically cut the book in half and focused solely on Michael Oher's story, which is a great story but it's made so much better when written alongside the importance of left tackles in the NFL today and how the league got to be that way.
  13. To be fair, if he included his full discography, that post would have been longer than Elvis's. Also, Bobby Brown Goes Down was a huge hit overseas. IIRC, it reached #1 on the charts for some countries.
  14. Woo Zappa! That's one weaksauce discography, however
  15. Woo, the Kinks! Nice to see them get into the top 20
  16. I played the drums for most of my youth. Haven't played for awhile though, other than playing them in Rock Band
  17. My copy of the Them Crooked Vultures CD arrived today. It's nice to listen to these songs in a higher quality

    Post-grad Plans

I'm graduating in May. Already applied for an internship with the Twins so ideally that'll come through, but I can't apply for other baseball jobs because they'd be out of town and I still have classes to take next semester. Otherwise I might be waiting until NBA season to get a job, likely with the Timberwolves (although I'll certainly apply to a number of NBA teams).
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) His tour comes to the US this May. His new CD, Secret, Profane, and Sugarcane is decent and if you have not heard his recent stuff, you will be surprised. http://www.elviscostello.com/ He almost made my list. Elvis Costello is awesome. He didn't make my list either, but I certainly considered him. I'm kind of surprised the Doors were only on 3 lists, but at least they made it!
  20. Wait, didn't you say the Beastie Boys weren't eligible? Not that I really care, I like them but they still wouldn't have made my list. I'm just curious
  21. Elephants is also a great song, as is Nobody Loves Me and Neither Do I. I really like the switch of sounds in Nobody Loves Me, and Grohl going crazy at the end is great. Overall a very solid album. I look forward to more TCV releases
  22. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 08:12 AM) On the flip side I don't know what it is with big ten teams with mega athletes coming in out of high school like Ohio State & Michigan St. etc. playing that ploding slow brand of basketball still. Get out a run a bit! The Gophers run!
