QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) Do the Sox miss Rogers this weekend as well? That would be nice. At least it will save a few broken bats Who is that in your avatar? Is that Larry King?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) Then why is this thread full of polls? I think the polls are interesting. If you look at these pages checking a bunch of recent matchup polls, you will see that Obama and Clinton are almost identical. But, one thing that I think the Dems understand is what voters are actually important. The core Dems will vote their candidate, and so will the core GOP'ers. But I think there are two groups that will make the difference - independents, and the far right Christian Coalition types. The independents heavily favor Obama over Clinton. And I think that Clinton will fire up the righties far more so than Obama will, causing more of them to show up and donate money as well. So ultimately, though the edge is slight, I think Obama is more electable come November. That ultimately is why, I think, these supers keep going over to Obama. As I've said all along, what they really want is a win in November.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:02 AM) It's really hard to get interested in the Sox minor league system this year. there are a few on this squad to get excited about though... Aaron Poreda, P Francisco Hernandez, C Sergio Miranda, SS C.J. Retherford, 3B John Shelby, 2B Salvador Sanchez, OF I see some significant MLB potential among those folks, to varying degrees.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) I can't comment on the play, but you have to remember the Sox don't exactly have an experienced guy playing center field so it could lead to some confusion out there. Still, I think it is assinine that Dye isn't in left. I have to disagree about Dye in Left. I'd rather have Quentin in LF. RF gets fewer plays, but requires a stronger arm. As Dye still has a strong arm but is getting slower out there, he's really better in RF, and its better to have Quentin's athleticism (or Swisher's, or Owens') in LF.

Miranda is starting the year with High A Winston-Salem. The other SS on that roster is CJ Lang, and I'd guess that Miranda will be the starter. The organization apparently think highly of him, considering he's only 21 and didn't even get a full season of minor league ball in. He had an excellent 2007 - let's hope for another strong year in 2008.

Lucy is starting the year at AAA Charlotte. Paul Phillips is also in Charlotte, as is Ryan Smith, though Smith is on the DL. I'd imagine that Lucy will get the majority of starts.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) I am surprised that Ozzie playe Quentin over Brian in this game. Wonder what happens when Owens is back Anderson goes to Charlotte. -

Uribe amazes me. He looks good every spring, hitting the other way, being patient... then he gets to the regular season and its just Taz again. -

How about John Danks. Awesome stuff. Wouldn't it be funny... all of us worried about the 3-4-5, well, what if the 3-4-5 have better first outings than our 1-2? -

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) Did you not read the "offensively" part? Our best outfield is Swisher - Anderson - Dye, but our best offensive outfield is Quentin - Swisher - Dye. That's a pretty obvious one too... Weird. I read that as defensively. My bad. I agree. -

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) Quentin being in the lineup today is exciting. Today's lineup features our best outfield offensively. Best? You think Swisher in CF is better than Anderson in CF? -
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) The content was not from the TPM. It was from Time magazine... http://thepage.time.com/2008/04/03/source-...obama-cant-win/ It's all he said, she said. Its a Clinton aide saying it, after the original story broke. I wouldn't trust it either.

By the way, Pablo also has a .344 career average against the Indians, best on the team. For the lineups, there is no box up yet, so no lineups, right? Or is there somewhere else that gets published ahead of the game? -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) Ozuna should start at 2nd every time someone comes up pitching from the left side. His value on this team is as a spot starter, and lefty killer. That's pretty much what I would say too. Maybe backup 3B on occasion as well. Somehow, people seemed to get the bizarre impression that I was saying he should start. I would never say such a thing. -
Here it is.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) Now add today - a Clinton "associate" said that Bill Richardson privately had confided to the Clintons that he thought Obama couldn't win a general election. I read an article this AM, that I cannot find now, that said the opposite - that Clinton told Richardson herself that Obama could not win in the general. And it was from an actual news sourcem not a blog. I'll see if I can track it down.

Well, ATA just went under. Back into bankruptcy, and full halt to all services. They lost their military contract, and their passenger business was dying off anyway. Probably best for the industry, but, sucks for the people who work there.

QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 08:44 AM) A win... please. I'm tired of these losses. Something tells me you won't see any extra life with Ozuna in the lineup, unless you want someone that'll run really hard to first while grounding out. Why the Ozuna hate? People seem to forget, Pablo was a solid bench guy in 05 and 06 when he was healthy. He hit .328 with a .365 OBP in 2006, which was his last full season. He adds some speed, and he's not bad defensively at 2B and 3B. Hopefully they won't put him in the OF much though, because he's pretty bad out there. -

It would have been great to take 2 of 3 from CLE on the road. But at this point, 1 of 3, considering Game 1 was won by the umpires, would not be so bad against a very good Indians team. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 07:33 AM) Two things. I would like to see that law done to cover strictly illegal acts. If mistakes are made in good faith, I have a hard time taking away compensation. Second, if you remove compensation for companies in bankruptcy, they will never come out. Ask Kap how hard it is to entice execs to work at a company in bankruptcy, he knows. You have to pay A LOT more because of the condition of the company. Its kinda like trying to attract a free agent to play for a bad baseball team. You have to overpay. You would be sealing companies to a fate of liquidation with that law. I see what you are saying about mistakes versus illegal acts. And certainly, illegal acts should cause that. But gross incompetance should, at the least, allow for them to be sued by their employees. That may actually be true already, I am unclear on that. As for companies IN bankruptcy, I agree. Its the companies that are afloat and solid, then driven to either bankruptcy or bailout, that concern me. And I am not at all saying they shouldn't be well compensated. I am saying the max should be their existing salary, which would be quite good anyway, and that any other monies they get go to the bottom of the bankruptcy priority pile, AFTER things like employee health care and severance, pensions, etc. And again, for companies going into their bankruptcy plan - not already in their exit plan.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) I believe their called "Native Americans." Actually, at least when I was taking AmIn classes in undergrad, after much back and forth, the generally accepted terminology became American Indians. Not because it was correct, but, at least among anthro folks and AmerInd tribal leaders themselves, they decided it was the least offensive. Ben Nighthorse-Campbell led a campaign of sorts to solidify that. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled game thread. -
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) Romney won lots of moderate and independent when he was an elected politician. I don't see how he is going to scare them off now. Huckabee adds nothing to the ticket except a TON of quotes that will make it appear as if McCain has selected the GOP's Rev.Wright as VP. I disagree. Romney was a candidate who I heard Dems and independents be absolutely repulsed by during the campaign - some in this forum. I think when he was governor or MA, he was popular for a time. But then he hit the national spotlight and veered hard right, not to mention gained a reputation for being a huge flipflopper. Huckabee put his foot in his mouth a few times no doubt, but, he had growing success with little money, where as Romney spent a ton and saw his numbers drop as he campaigned in each state. I think Huckabee is actually more conservative than Romney, but he has a much more populist bent in his affect. Sort of weird I know, but, that's my take.
