  1. QUOTE(Drew @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) What I really love, besides Chicago-style is Neapolitan-style pizza, with a cracker-like thin crust. I've been reading about how to make a crust mix adaptable to a consumer-grade oven that garners these results but haven't tried it yet. Usually it involves 800º of wood-fired heat, which simply isn't possible if you don't live at a pizzeria. Care to share your source on that? I'd love to know how to do that.
  2. QUOTE(alexgtp @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) Deep Dish: Pequod's Pizza (Sox always on when they are playing ) Webster and Clybourne. Thin Crust: Harry's sports bar and grille (countryside, Il) Also another Sox bar. Im a pizza freak. I eat it almost daily. I have tried almost every pizza place in the area. I'm not all that impressed with Pequod's. Pizza is good but not great, its not Chicago style deep dish, and the service there is always HORRIBLY slow. Too bad too, its the closest pizza place to where I live, I think. If you haven't yet, try Barnaby's for thin crust. Nothing beats it. They have locations in Northbrook, Des Plaines, and one or two other spots I cannot recall. Used to be one on Touhy in the city, but that one closed. The one in Northbrook is usually best.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) But the suburbs are Republican strongholds. Lake County, for example didn't relect a Dem during the 20th Century. Will, Kane, etc? All GOP land. Not all. And that is changing. In fact, I suspect that is where the Dems are making their biggest gains. Many suburbs are seeing big increases in ethnic minorities, and younger former city dwellers. That pushes them more towards the Dems.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) Just north of Diversey, basically across from Jewel. Little corner place. Order a deep pepperoni, and you will be in heaven. It litterally melts in your mouth. OK, I think I've seen that place. That's pretty nearby. I'll give it a shot!
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) Dude, you have got to get a deep from Art of Pizza on Ashland, you will be blown away, I promise. I will do so. Where on Ashland?
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) And unfortunately, the U.N. doesn't have the balls to do anything about it either. That too. I was thinking after I typed my response, I should have added that as well. It is not solely the job of the U.S. to deal with these things.
  7. Um, yes. Unfortunately, or military is too busy fighting us out of the sixth crusade in Iraq to do anything about it.
  8. Thick: Lou's Thin: Barnaby's (you'd never think it looking at the place) Honorable Mention: Great Plains Sauce and Dough, Ames, Iowa Topping: Pepperoni is all I want. And I still can't believe Heads thinks that gas station pizza from Casey's is the best.
  9. I like the pitching matchups the whole series. I like our chances for 2 of 3, which is what I'd like to see. GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Not quite. Cook County is 5,000,000 and Illinois is over 12,000,000. Chicago is about 3,000,000. So actually Chicago is close to 25% than 66%. Cook County is one of 6 counties that make up the Chicago area. The metro is between 8 and 9 million, depending on what source you look at. That is 66%-75%.
  11. I know what this conflict needs. I think it would be terrific if the Pope through some gas on the fire AND invoke Middle Aged philosophy... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060915/ap_on_...pope_muslims_11 Nice. Very helpful.

    darnit bush

Bush is doing a network-covered press conference now? What is it about?
  13. QUOTE(mu mu @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) Not neccessarily, we could see the Tigers, or possible the twinkies, suffer a meltdown. Could happen, that's all I'm sayin. Tigers are already melting down. Just a question of whether or not they can pull up.
  14. QUOTE(mreye @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) I LOVE KETCHUP ON MY HOT DOGS!!! Who the hell made of the "rule" that you can't have ketchup on your hot dogs? Ketchup is way more natural on a hot dog than pickles spears, tomatoes and celery salt. That's right, I said it. I HATE Chicago style hot dogs! Ketchup, mustard, onion, relish. That's all I want. Flame on. You will perish in the fires of Soxtalk's anger. Anyone have any marshmallows?
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 02:08 AM) Gload's never going to leadoff or Mack, even though they have good numbers, because they don't have speed, and that's what Ozzie wants for the top of the lineup. I'm sorry but this is just 100% incorrect. Mack is just a step slower than Pods to 1B, and Gload has better speed than two thirds of the team. Mind you, I do not think Gload is a leadoff hitter. But to say they don't have speed is just false.
  16. These threads are creepy. Its their hotel for G*d's sake. They don't need to be surrounded by hawks where they eat and sleep.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 07:18 AM) How they self report party alegiance and how they vote is usually different. I'll bet the hardcore, straight tickets voting, party faithful hasn't changed much. A statewide Dem candidate will still have to gobble up huge numbers in Chicago, split the suburbs close to even, and hold on for his dear life and pray for a downstate tornado. Given that the Chicago metro makes up fully two thirds of Illinois' population... a Dem doesn't have to do a whole lot downstate for national or statewide office. Sort of unfortunate really, given the difference in political philosophies. Downstate IL might be better served politically if it were annexed by Indiana.
  18. QUOTE(samclemens @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/0....070138889.html does anyone know if he has a son or someone who is succeeding him? somebody should make a move soon and topple n. korea. It says right in the article that his son is a likely successor, who China likes as their next yappy guard dog.
  19. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) THE NORTH SIDE????? TRAITOR!!!!!! Quiet you.
  20. Ross Gload is like many a QB in the NFL who were good backups, got a little older, and were never considered starting options for those reasons. But sometimes, after years on the bench, they get a few chances to start, and show that they are pretty darn good - even though they are no longer young guns. Ross, if given a chance, could be an MLB starting caliber 1B. Full season, he is capable of .300+ with 15-20 HR, solid D, and maybe 10-20 SB. But he's not a power guy, so its hard to get noticed at 1B. Honestly, I think his ceiling is Wally Joyner.
  21. Look. I'm as big a Gload fan as there is on this site. Well, except maybe for Gload is God. Bottom line, despite Gload's hitting skills, excellent glove at 1B, speed, hustle and cheap salary, the guy is not that good at defense in the outfield. His arm is mediocre, and he has trouble reading fly balls. Can he maybe LEARN to be better out there, perhaps in winter ball? Maybe. Pablo has certainly improved out there over the course of this year, but even he still has major issues. But to convert him would take a lot of time, and may or may not work out. So, no. Sweeney maybe, or Owens in a couple years, or even Pablo are better fits within the organization. Gload needs a chance to start at 1B somewhere, like a KC or TB type club. He would probably flourish.
  22. QUOTE(mu mu @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) Results so far... TB: 2-1 KC: 1-2 BOS: 1-2 CLE: 2-2 LAA: 2-1 8-8 so far. 5 teams and 16 games left. OAK (3 Away) DET (3 Home) SEA (4 Home) CLE (3 Away) MIN (3 Away) I think we'll need to do better than .500 during the homestand to make it, barring MIN or DET collapsing. If we can get 7 of 10 from OAK, DET, and SEA, then I'd bet we'll be in a good place (hopefully at least 2/3 from DET). 6-4 might work, depending on how the other teams do.
  23. I caught a snippet on CNN yesterday about Anbar (some soldiers had started calling it "Alqaedastan"). They were sayings its about the size of new Hampshire, and has only a few hundred troops stationed there. I just can't see why people are arguing for troop reductions. I disagreed with the war, and I disagree with the way it has been conducted. But that all said, to abandon ship now is just assinine.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) You heard it here first, it won't happen. Yeah it would be nice, but the middle eastern emirs won't let it happen. Good. In the long term view, the last thing this country needs is cheap gas. No green here either.
