2015 Catch-All thread
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) I used to have a car where you needed to remove a tire to get the filter off. Subaru?

Interview with Blake Hickman
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 08:29 AM) You can never have too many Hawkeyes. As a Cyclone, I am not sure I agree with that. Of course, ISU dropped baseball like 10 or 15 years ago, so you won't see any Cyclones in the majors anyway.

Interview with Blake Hickman
Quinarvy got to spend some time talking with Blake Hickman, the White Sox' 7th round pick this year. He's a Chicago native (Simeon HS), ACE Program guy, and a converted pitcher (from catcher) out of University of Iowa. Shortly after signing, he had to have TJ surgery. Blake is a talkative fellow. You can read all about him right here in our exclusive interview.

Fall Instructional League
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) I looked around on the page and didn't see it. Guess I missed it. Thanks. It is contextual as those players' injuries and rehab are all discussed. But you aren't the only person who asked, so, I added a blurb about it near the top.

Fall Instructional League
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 09:55 AM) What do the asterisks mean? As noted in the descriptions below each section for those players, those players are on rehab or DL.

Fall Instructional League
The Sox are sending 50 prospects to the Fall Instructs. We got an advance roster. See who is going and why here (as well as what the Fall Instructs are).

Supreme Court to Decide Whether Gays Nationwide Can Marry
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 08:32 AM) She's saying that to clear her conscience, but I can't imagine somebody will actually file a suit challenging the legality of the issued licenses. Of course someone will do that. It's a valid question - if the office signs the licenses but without Davis' name on them, are they still valid? Sucks that we have to even figure this out, but that appears to be where we are.

Season in Review: Kannapolis Intimidators
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 08:39 AM) Where does Eddy Alvarez start next year? Probably A+ until Anderson moves up. If Anderson is in AAA, then Alvarez goes to AA. I think that's the way it stacks up, so really it depends on where Anderson is.

Season in Review: Kannapolis Intimidators
The story with this squad was, every time they started getting better, they'd lose another top prospect to promotion. By they end they were a pretty bare-bones unit. Still a few interesting names there though. Here's a brief recap of their season, from Quinarvy.

9/10 Game
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) I was at the game. I took video and live tweeted some stuff. I'll try to have it edited this week and I'll post the video. Long story short, Almonte was pumping some very good velo, threw a few really great sliders at 83 MPH, but missed with a ton of fastballs high and saw his slider slip out of his hand often to lefties. He left a lot of pitches away or up. He gets hyped, tries to get more gas, and leaves pitches up and they flatten. It's a pattern with him. Looking forward to video!

9/11 Winston-Salem Playoff
Brennan gets the start. Fun twist - Jorge Soler has been added for Myrtle Beach, on rehab assignment. So they have a ringer.

Importance of a Top Draft Pick
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) Reason is it is slotted you knew the answer before you asked. They could still draft cheaper if they wanted to, even when slotted. To save money. They haven't.

Importance of a Top Draft Pick
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) The ONLY reason draft picks have been better is change in CBA. Sox would still be drafting the cheapest player possible, nobody spent less 5 years prior to CBA change than the Sox. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) Well, another big reason is that we've been under .500 for 4 of the last 5 seasons, including a top 3 pick. Top 15 picks help too. Also, the Sox are spending near, at or above their limit in the new system now. So really the whole trope about the Sox being cheap is just not accurate any longer. Hasn't been for a number of years, really.

The official, Predict the 2015 White Sox record thread
The bell curve on SoxTalk is usually pretty decent at this. Failed this year though. Me included, in a big way.

Importance of a Top Draft Pick
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) ok, nice post NSS72... i am done... but something just pop up. now with the idea of BPA depending on the needs of the team. if during the draft, it is apparent that several pitchers is slated to fall to your pick, and the teams needs or positional.... won't it still be best to draft the pitcher and use the excess of pitchers in a trade. but on a sidenote, if the other teams knows you need a positional player, wouldn't it be the best for them to ask for more in order to make the trade... so what will be the smart thing to do??? In that framework, yes, you want BPA and not positional need. You never draft for positional need, at least not in like the first 10 rounds (late in the draft you do end up going for evening out depth to a certain extent). So whether or not your team needs pitching or catching or shortstops, you draft the most valuable overall players you can. And it isn't primarily because of trading - it is just the nature of baseball and that even good prospects typically take a few years to reach the majors and your team needs will change in the interim. It isn't like football or basketball.

Importance of a Top Draft Pick
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Those posters are wrong too. It's not possible. More specifically, people were talking BPA in terms of a high first round pick. In that case, yeah, you almost always do that. Unless you have some sort of ability to shuffle money around to do something complex, especially if you have comp picks. But for the Sox, 1st round this year, BPA was the clear way to go.

Season in Review: 2015 Birmingham Barons
With AZL and CHAR down, here is the season recap for the AA Birmingham Barons, who may have had more significant prospects than any other affiliate. Tim Anderson, Frankie Montas, Tyler Danish, Courtney Hawkins and Jacob May are among them. Find out how they, and the team, performed.

Importance of a Top Draft Pick
In the new system, it shouldn't be seen as BPA (Best Player Available) at every pick. It should be BDA (Best Draft Available) across all picks.

2015 Catch-All thread
Also, I looked at their site. Their client list is very impressive. Almost too impressive for a small, just-started company like that. Its not impossible they are legit, but I'd be skeptical. And careful.

Search LI for that company name and look for people who work for them, or have worked for them. Might give you some clues. Also just do a plain old google search, and dig beyond the first few entries.

9/9 Winston-Salem Playoffs
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) Thank you for your insight NorthSide, much appreciated. All I have to go by is what FS writes up and a few videos on the Winston site. Since we're talking about Almonte, is his breaking ball a Slider or Curve? It looks to me like a Slider similar to what Peavy throws. Definitely a slider. Has nice 2-plane break when its 82-84, flattens out when he goes 85-87.

9/9 Winston-Salem Playoffs
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) Yeehaa, Almonte gets the start for Winston tonight. Go Dash! When he's the version of himself that stays in his delivery and doesn't reach back for extra gas, he's quite good. When he gets too amped, he's very hittable.
