  1. Here's the profile of Jon Harris, Missouri State. Not the most likely pick, but one of 5 or so names the Sox have been attached to. We've got Tate, Kaprielian and a combo article of others still coming up before the draft.
  2. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) I think it's unfair to say a player has makeup problems if he doesn't handle failure as well as some. I know if I was pushed beyond my limits consistently and I failed miserably, I would be pretty down and upset as well. He laid an egg in 2012 at Winston-Salem, so the org pushes him to AA the next season? That's the biggest jump in the minors, and of course he laid an even bigger egg in AA, yet they kept him there all season? This organization has done an atrocious job of developing position players for years, and this is just part of the problem. You draft raw athletes and then push them through the system... I wonder what could happen? I do think their tendency to push hitters to the point of failure is taken too far, and it has cost them. And Walker was pushed too fast. That said, Walker does have makeup issues - this has been reported a lot in the past couple years. The good news with Walker is, by all accounts, he came into this year with a different attitude and approach. And it showed. Let's give him a chance in AA. With his speed, and his defense and arm strength, if he can make regular contact he may still be a prospect yet. I'm not saying he's a ranked one or anything- he's still quite fringy. But I wouldn't 100% write him off yet.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) Any updates on Anderson? Bruised ribs, day to day. No DL.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) I haven't been playing attention...what's Hawkins injury and how long is he out? Finger injury he aggravated. Nothing serious, should be back very soon. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 05:18 PM) Keenyn Walker now has 7 AA ABs this year and 5 of those ended in whiffs. Let's hear it for toolsy outfielders! Walker isn't much of a prospect, but it has precisely zero to do with 2 games in AA this year. Seriously - two games. His K rate in W-S was actually lower than it had been in years. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Why isn't saladino a more highly rated prospect? He is shaking off some rust now, as i expected, but he has pretty good tools. Had a solid year at AAA last year. Good speed, decent power for a SS. Seems like he could be an above average utility player or a decent shortstop. He has been pretty highly rated, ranked in the T25/T30 quite a few times and was even borderline T10 at one point. He's pretty good defensively at short and second, and is likely a utility player going forward. He makes good contact and has some pop & speed, so offense is probably his strong suit, along with being able to play middle infield competently.
  5. Christian Marrero hit an inside-the-park HR, first ever at Regions Field. Was a triple plus error, until a scoring change.
  6. FYI for all you draftniks... on Monday, when the FS Draft Tracker goes live, we'll have a pinned Day 1 thread in PHT with the tracker in the first post and discussion added to that. It may also have links to the pre-draft coverage articles, again in the first post. There will also be a CLOSED thread, pinned in PHT or FS, with the draft picks and status, and again links to the tracker. This discussion thread will be closed when the new threads go up.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) i know esp when imho, he was turning the corner of a viable prospect. And likely this doesn't change that, long-term. As long as he hasn't been concussed multiple times before, he'll likely be back 100% in a period of days. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) according to Mays' GF's twitter he was feeling a little better last night. Seems like maybe they escaped a worst case scenario. Anderson with some bruises and May with a concussion. We still don't know the story with Anderson.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) I've never been to that stadium but many MiLB ballparks don't have carts so that really is the best way to get him off the field. It's a relatively new ballpark, AA level, should be pretty high end. But I don't know either. Could use a stretcher, which would be in the back of the bus that I'm sure is parked nearby for games. Or even a trail stretcher if they had one. Anyway, thanks for the insight, appreciated.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) He was cleared by the physician on the field. In your case an EMT is not qualified to examine and clear for neuro or fracture type injuries. If the physician wasn't there to clear him they probably would have followed the protocol you described. Ah, makes sense. Thanks. Still though, I'm a little surprised they let him try to wobble off, and get carried like that, in his state. I can understand not putting him on a board, with what you described.
  10. I normally don't post the daily recaps in PHT, but this one warrants it. If you didn't know, there was a scary collision last night between Tim Anderson and Jacob May. May had to be carried off the field, Anderson walked off but only after being down for a few minutes. Our recap article has the video link, a link to the official MiLB.com story, and other updates I was able to put together. I'll update here when we hear more. I've got notes into a couple people to see what we can find out.
  11. Also, I agree with Dan, this was a communication issue, and that sort of thing really shouldn't happen.
  12. Recap posted, with links to video and news story on the collision, and other information I could scrape together on it.
  13. Writing the recap now, but I don't want to write it there, so I'll put this here... Paging PTATC (bat signal, lol)... I am a former EMT. The first thought I have after watching that May/Anderson collision on video is... why in the hell was Jacob May allowed to stand up, and be carried off like that, when he so obviously had a head/neck injury? Our protocol on these things was simple. If we suspected a head or C-Spine injury, it was 1) loose traction, then 2) neck brace or board brace, then 3) back board or KED board, and onto a stretcher to go. None of that was done. Why?
  14. Scoreboard CHAR: Drabek, 6:05 BHAM: Blackmar, 7:05 W-S: Cose, 6:00 KAN: Adams, 6:05
  15. Draft Profile / Preview: RHP Walker Buehler.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) Also depends somewhat on the ballpark. Parks that have funky angled walls tend to produce more triples than parks like the Cell that have a pretty simple circular pattern, wouldn't you say? Sure, but in this case it is two hitters on the same team playing the same ballparks the same number of times (more or less).
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) the whole game may have change now. with Fry getting hurt. at least for me. this bring another interesting alternative with the #8 pick. this is me and my fantasy as being a monday morning GM in the drafting game. Fry getting hurt, even if it is long-term (which we don't know yet), doesn't change anything on your draft strategy.
  18. We'll have draft profiles of Buehler (today), Harris (Thursday) and Tate (Friday) coming up. Plus a "Best of the Rest" post covering some less likely guys like Funkhouser, Kaprielian, etc., sometime this week or weekend as well. Since we already profiled Fulmer and Jay, as well as looked at the Aiken/Matuella option, that should pretty much cover all the realistic possibilities for the Sox' 1st round pick.
  19. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) I'm curious about May. How does a guy with enough speed to steal 25 bags (so far), hit 10 doubles and have zero triples? I'm kind of puzzled by that. Could be a number of things. First, triples are such a low-likelihood event that there's a lot of noise in the data, so whether or not someone hit one in less than two months' time doesn't mean a whole lot. Luck comes into play. May also lacks power, so he's not hitting a lot of wall-bangers.
  20. Recap posted - and it's a very detailed one (nice work Will!).
  21. I'm always amused by the extreme takes on this. Hahn taking the GM job and KW moving to the Prez job was just one step in a transition process. Hahn has more and more room to do it his way, but KW is certainly still involved. And I'm sure KW has a hard time letting some of it go. It isn't all Hahn, or all KW - it never works that way in any business, nor should it, really.
  22. Scoreboard BHAM 7:05CT Jaye W-S 6:00CT Leyer KAN 6:05CT Guerrero returns DSL already played, no box yet CHAR is off.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Popup ad refused to close, crashed the window. Sigh. Sun Times site is nearly unreadable with all the junk they put on it. I just won't click on ST links anymore.
