  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) His obp is a little over .320. No thanks. In his case, with that power, the lack of walks isn't the main problem in my eyes. It's the over 30% K rate that screams "don't go there" to me.
  2. Just to note - Marin threw another 7 scoreless today. Has 29 innings in AAA, and has yet to give up a run.
  3. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) Thanks, I didn't know that he raised his velocity to the mid-90s. If he can maintain that deep into games you have to believe he has a shot to crack the rotation with his type of control. Important - he TOUCHES mid-90s. His fastball is usually more 91-93, which is still a couple clicks faster than he was 2 years ago. ITs a sinker really.
  4. Marin done for the day after 7 innings. Now at 29 straight scoreless.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) White Sox baseball... Charlotte Top of the 8th Tyler Saladino hit by pitch. Jason Coats bunt pops out to catcher Audry Perez. it's the minors, so they work on that stuff, but I'd hope they wouldn't take the bat out of Coats' hands like that in the majors. He's actually been kinda cold this month though, so maybe isn't so terrible.
  6. 6 more scoreless for Marin, now at 28 straight. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Marin has proven that he isn't just doing it with smoke and mirrors in AAA, I wonder what his realistic ceiling is? Long man out of the bullpen? #5 Starter? Higher? Prospect profile Article he wrote Those should help you out.
  7. lol Ventura is still around due to Jerry's loyalty problem, but the Sox should re-hire Ozzie. This is gold, Jerry. Gold!!!
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Dunt. There are reasons for Avi to third base. 1.) We have no third baseman. 2.) I don't want to see Gillaspie or Beckham bat ever again. 3.) Avi looks like a third baseman. He just does. 4.) Again, this team is so far out of first place it matters not what they do the rest of the year. This team blows. 5.) What if he's good?? It's not like he's an uncoordinated ox. He just can't play the outfield. Why not try it for 30-60 games?? Thank u for your time. Maybe Conor Gillaspie can play catcher. He's always grumpy, like a catcher, he just is. His bat would be better there.
  9. Barons have struck out 12 times so far in 8 innings, have four hits. Not going too well. Even Marrero and Delmonico are struggling today.
  10. I'll likely be headed to Montreal on business in August. Recommendations?
  11. The latest in our series of articles written by the players, RHP Terance Marin writes about his very unusual path to where he stands now - a pitching prospect in AAA Charlotte with a chance to make the majors. Marin has thrown 24 innings in AAA this year and has yet to give up a run. This is stuff you won't see anywhere else, so give it a read! If you want to learn more about him prospect-wise, you can also click the "By Terance Marin" by-line, which links to his prospect profile.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) Think this summer is the perfect time to call up Davidson, Micah Johnson, Erik Johnson, Thompson, and even Leury from CHA, can't hurt us now and it's a lot lighter on Jerry's pockets if that's what he's worried about, Davidson has LaRoche's bat, Johnson was batting .270, Erik has returned to Top 100 prospect form, and Trayce can replace Melky if LF, while Leury can replace Gillaspie or Beckham as a utility, call the youth up and see what we have I can see cases for most of those, but I personally don't see anything with Leury. Would rather use Sanchez in any role Leury would take. But I also think you're going overboard on the comps here. Thinking Davidson "has LaRoche's bat" is very ambitious for Davidson, you're not mentioning that Micah's defense is the question with him, and Trayce's value declines if you put him on the corner.
  13. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 04:10 AM) What the hell was Keon Barnum doing playing catcher? http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?g...ox&did=milb Considering they show Narvaez at 1B, I'd have to bet that's a mistake. I'll email our guy at W-S and let him know.
  14. Sorry for the delay, recap added. I changed the title of the article like 10 times to try not to have it sound really bad.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) That was fast http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/201...po#.VY3IBPlViko This may sound odd, but I do actually agree that this is something to consider. Polygamy is a social construct too. People's fears with it mostly act in a similar way to fears about prostitution. That the act itself if people are truly consenting is one thing, but the reality is that each often tend to come with lots of other very dangerous freight. Abuse of various kinds. So do you prevent the institution entirely, or do you try to enforce on the bad acts. This may indeed be the next battlefield. Not because it is the same, but because it begs some of the same questions, albeit it with more complicated answers.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) His defensive numbers are in the bottom 1/3 of the league, comparable to Jhonny Peralta and Jimmy Rollins. Replacing his defense and in fact upgrading his defense might not be all that hard, we could probably do that from our system right now. Those guys wouldn't hit, but neither is he. I think you vastly underrate the leap from minors to majors, especially in terms of defense. None of Saladino, LGarcia or Anderson will be able to do what Alexei does in the field right now. I'm quite confident of that. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) Just let Sanchez play SS and see if his range and quick release can make him good there. Sanchez has the hands and range, but his arm is fringy. I don't know that he has the arm for MLB shortstop, except as an occasional backup.
  17. QUOTE (Special K @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) We can find a minor leaguer to replace Alexei's offensive production of .222, .243, .293, and -1 (WAR). That has to be dead last in shortstop production. Even if their not a long term solution (assuming we could find a suitor for Alexei, which obviously is a long shot given the aforesaid production). Yes but you'll have a hard time getting a shortstop who can match his defense, even in a down year. Also, one of the best candidates to improve that in the 2nd half may be himself.
  18. Trading Alexei right now is probably a bad idea. First, he's at a low value-wise. Second, who's going to play? Saladino? Sanchez? Beckham? Some combination of them? I'd expect similar offensive results, maybe worse, small chance of better, and none of them will be the fielder Alexei is even in a down year. Better to let him perhaps snap out of it, build his value back up, and move him in the offseason when other plans can be put into play. Only exception is, if there is another trade or same trade where a decent replacement SS can come in. Even then, probably not a good value proposition at this time.
  19. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2015/...-sweep-the-day/ Recap posted. Balanced day for the Sox affiliates. Good to see Michalczewski back. Too bad about May, especially for it to happen on a play that didn't need to happen.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 10:15 AM) but his clock will start. the sox had no choice with Rodon. His "clock" doesn't start until he reaches the majors. And they certainly had a choice with Rodon.
  21. If one were to reinvent the country and its laws from scratch, ideally, marriage should never enter into it. Marriage is a social construct, and government should neither endorse or interfere with any of it. People can then do whatever they'd like in their relationships. But as the country did not start that way, you have to make a decision from where we are. And this was the right, best decision available under the circumstances.
  22. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) Where did we get this guy from? He was once a hyped prospect, struggled on the field and off it. This past offseason he kind of disappeared from the Brewers org, they literally couldn't find the guy, so they released him. Sox signed him. Then put him on the restricted list for unknown reasons. Finally got playing in A ball a week ago to tune up, now he's in AA. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) Barons hoping to get May back in August Saw that. Sheesh, that's a long time out - really too bad for Jacob. But definitely better to be cautious with head injuries. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 12:25 AM) He's finally figured out AA. And it's great to see. I've been keeping an eye on him. Here's what's odd though - according to the stadium gun, his fastball was only 86-88 last night. Either the gun is broken, or Jaye is broken, or he's "working on something" - yet he still put up zeros.
  23. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) I don't see Johnson's speed translating to the majors either. I don't understand this post. His speed is his speed. He's 70 grade or better. That doesn't change based on majors vs minors. Are you saying you think he won't steal bases effectively or prolifically, due to technique? That's certainly possible. Though even then the speed has other positive effects on the basepaths.
