Recap posted Sorry for the delay. Nice to see May back and healthy, and Alvarez seems to be handling the promotion pretty well.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) Where have Adolfo and Nunez been for AZL? I've asked around about Adolfo, no info yet. He's been in uniform in the dugout as recently as a few days ago.

Recap posted from Fulmer Day part 2. Rookie clubs did well again too, and Kanny played 15 innings.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) He's hitting .225 /.287 /.270 as an almost 25-year-old at AA, a year on from hitting .155/.231/.236. I don't see him having any chance. Walker's a long way away. I'd struggle to even include him among, say, the top 40 guys in the system. Even just with outfielders I can think of 5 or 6 I'd rank ahead of him.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) Thanks. You could have provided this up-front. As a general rule, if you want to know about prospects, not only is there an entire section of this board dedicated to them, there is a blog that does nothing but covering them from many angles. Try those.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) Any word on why Trey got pulled last night? Ejected for arguing balls and strikes.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) Zangari has been on fire for AZL He's hitting the ball, but he's also got 18 K vs 2 BB in his last 14 games (which is when the hitting seemed to start picking up). Not scary high, but a reminder that he's still a high schooler.

Recap posted. Nice bounce-back for Guerrero. Coats is on fire.

FYI, the FS T30 list is complete. Doing the write-ups and profile updates now. Hope to publish next week. Anyone want to take some guesses, on Top 5 or more?

Why Micah Johnson should not be moved to the outfield

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Yes, and as I said in my previous I post I disagree with that argument. What are your reasons? I wrote that piece and listed all the factors I could think of. I see literally no reason to believe he'd be a good OF, other than speed. But I am open to discussion - what makes you think he'd be good out there? -
I'm not sure Soto keeps being this good, especially as a full timer. My personal view is, they should trade him while he's hot. Let Flowers and either Kottaras or Smith split time the rest of the season in the backup slot, giving you a look at Smith in the meantime. 2016 is another animal. Soto is a FA after this year anyway, so you can still re-sign him for next year if you want to. Might as well get some value for him while you are out of the playoff picture.

To me, this hinges on whether or not you plan to be competitive in 2016. If you do, then I think rolling the dice at SS with Saladino and/or Sanchez is perhaps a mistake. Johnson at 2B I think is fine in either case. If you plan to be truly competitive in 2016, then I think you need to either take Alexei's option for 2016, or better, try to find someone in trade or FA that will be at least a competent defensive SS with an average-for-position bat for the next year or two. If you can do better than that, then even better. But Anderson isn't ready, and while I think Saladino could maybe be passable, that's a pretty big gamble. Sanchez, to me, won't be a major league-grade hitter as a full time player.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 09:35 AM) Matt, Chris Comito is the 14th rounder that took $170,000 over slot. Dopico was a slot signing. Holy crap you're right. Dammit. Will go fix. Thanks for that.

Recap posted. Name getting my attention lately: Danny Dopico.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:00 AM) Are you salty about it? I'd rather be objective than ignore facts. Nobody has pointed out that all of his home runs have come in band box. That's important to note. IF we're going there, then it should also be noted that one of his recent home runs left the park entirely, over that HR porch in RF. That's way more than enough to get out of any park. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) Still don't want Micah up unless he has improved defensively. And there are recent indications it has. Fewer errors, and a quote from an NL scout as to the positives. Also reports coming in more often of making very tough plays. There's enough there to make me pretty sure he's improving, though of course he's not likely to suddenly be very good.

Why Micah Johnson should not be moved to the outfield

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) I think Johnson could be a similar player to Scott Podsednik in LF, his speed gives him range to make up for bad reads. The more experience he receives in the OF the better he will get at making jumps and fielding fly balls and he can be at least an average defender in the OF. With Sanchez entrenched at 2B, Johnson's only real path to the majors is LF unless the Sox want to dangle him as a trade chip. I don't see Sanchez being entrenched at all. In fact I'd say his grip is quite tenuous. And if you are saying he might, over time, get to Pods level, then imagine just how bad he'll be in the years before then. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:06 AM) thanks the i did saw the video and read what you posted. that is why i was a little confuses. he just don't seem to be the typical over powering closer but stat wise, doing nice. i know the object is to avoid bats.... but with out an overpowering FB?? just my confusion. Stats are never the whole picture in the minors. And their importance, generally, is a sliding scale. In A ball, yes they tell you something, but no they may not tell you what you think they do. Its key at those lower levels to know HOW they are getting outs.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) Why isn't Leury Garcia in the mix to temporarily fill the hole at SS, if Alexei is not brought back? He's a strong defender, with a canon for an arm, and is having a pretty good year at AAA. THis was talked about over in the FS area too. Sanchez is the far better choice than Garcia, IMO. Garcia's defense just wasn't that good, Sanchez has been better. Sanchez has a much better offensive track record. I see no reason to go with Garcia over Sanchez. Saladino is a pretty good defensive SS. Hahn referred to him as being the best defensive SS in the system aside from Rondon and Alexei. And I think Saladino's bat is much more likely to play than either of the above. So to me, Garcia is probably 3rd or 4th option (if you include Beckham) after Alexei for starting at SS.

Why Micah Johnson should not be moved to the outfield

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) To say the least there are plent of at bats. If the Sox trade/sign another middle infielder I think I'll choke I'd like to see them move out all the riff raff now. L Garcia can play the utility infielder. It's great to hear that Micah is doing better defensively. Hopefully it's good enough to satisfy Cooper soon. I don't get the appeal of Leury. Posted a .399 OPS last year in the majors as a 23-year old, with disappointing defense. For all the flak he gets, Sanchez has an OPS about 80 points higher and on the rise lately, and has shown very good defense - again as a 23 year old. Sanchez' numbers in AAA at 22 and 23 dwarf anything Garcia did at same age and level. Why choose Garcia over Sanchez? Because he can play CF in a pinch? The team has a 4th OF and others as needed. I just don't get it. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) Matt Cooper, closer for Kanny, needs to be in AA or something. He is dominating low A He does need to move up. He's unorthodox and his stuff isn't great, but he needs to be challenged and he does bring something interesting to the table. You can read about him here and watch a video.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 07:18 AM) I wish it was Tommy John, but Nardi's pitchers all lost their labrums and there was pretty much no coming back. At least tommy john gave you a chance "Honey, have you seen my labrum?" "Your what?" "My labrum! I know it was here earlier, I saw it. What did you do with it?" "What did I do with it? Find it yourself!" "Dammit woman! Crap, now I need to find Nardi."
