QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:04 PM) What's the deal with Marin. Slow moving prospect and he goes to Mexico for 1/4 a season? Is Coats getting interesting? Marin has a pretty interesting back-story. Might be a good article idea actually, or at least a profile. Watch for that. Coats was, IMO, interesting all along. Just proving it now.

2015 MLB Draft Thread - Discussion - DAY ONE
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Just to recap, the two articles Future Sox published on Fulmer... 1. The newsy, fact-heavy post 2. The scouting deep dive Both are excellent and you should read them. Dan and Alex worked the newsy one together (yes THAT Alex, back from the dead), and Will did the scouting piece. Both referenced Jeff's pre-draft profile. All-around work to get these done. -
Nice Knights game. Coats & Thompson 2 HR each, Marin looking good.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 05:18 PM) Need hitters not pitchers right now. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) I meant for THIS season. That's not how the draft works. Your typical hitter, even a very good prospect, takes at LEAST a couple years to reach the majors. This is not football or basketball. There are literally no hitters in this draft that will help the team this year. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) In other words, luck. ptatc, I love ya man, but you know as well as I do that is only part of the picture. If it was 100% luck there'd be no point in having coaches in the minors. Luck is involved without a doubt - but it is not all luck. -
If you want to get to know Skinner, here's my interview with him from about a month ago (after the players).

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) Sox have a history of doing this. Sorry I do not trust this regime the track record is so great. It's been since at least 2006 that the team has gone materially underslot on their first round pick. That was 9 years ago. Since then, they've either been right around slot (give or take 5%) or over. You aren't functioning within reality here.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) Only because of the change in 2012 CBA.............The saving money strategy was in full effect 2008 to 2012, it failed badly. Get the best guy at 8 and stop the discount nonsense. You realize you're yelling at a stopped train, telling it to stop. Right?
-
Recap posted. Jake Peter is on fire lately.
-
One more time to clarify - we'll keep this thread open until we near draft time. Once the FS Draft Tracker is up, we'll create a new discussion thread pinned in PHT, with the Tracker and other handy links in the OP. We'll then close this thread. There will also, as usual, be a closed thread pinned in this FS forum with just the picks and status in a single post.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 05:31 PM) They had signed him again during the winter, but he hasn't played at all, so I don't know if he was eventually cut or what. Correct, and I haven't heard a peep either. Possible he's in extended, or hurt, or was released (but likely we would have caught the release).

Recap posted.

Draft Profile: Dillon Tate
-
Draft Profile: Dillon Tate Tate looked like he had no chance to slip to 8th, but now that it appears he might, the White Sox are said to be potentially interested. We've got just one more draft preview left - a catch-all of the best of the rest available - before the big day.
-
Still have two more in the pipe: Tate, and a smash-up post of all the "also possible" names. Will likely post over the weekend and/or Monday. REMINDER: We'll have the Tracker up live Monday, and start a new pinned thread in PHT with the Tracker in the first post. For your discussion.

Speaking of slight overdrafts like Harris... here is our draft profile of RHP James Kaprielian, UCLA.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) Yes, the other will be a locked thread with info on picks QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) There will also be draft day discussion threads for each day of the draft to keep things simple. Actually, this thread will be closed. We'll open a new discussion thread, pinned, in PHT on draft day with the tracker link in the OP. There will also be a locked thread in FS with picks and status.

Prospects of the Month - May 2015
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) just trying to find some prospects to get excited about, other than the usuals like Anderson, May, Hawkins, Michalczewski. Thompson has seemed to make slight improvement this season, but still doesn't look like anything more than a fourth outfielder who can help with the glove and his legs. Ditto for Davidson, at least with an improved batting average. Maybe DiMichele. Or Jake Peter. Doesn't seem to be any real excitement around Kevan Smith. Nieto has been a major disappointment. With only one pick in the first three rounds this year, and that one likely targeted for a pitcher, just hoping another position prospect emerges. There are lots of pitchers, but you seem focused on position players. I personally think we're seeing more than a small improvement from Thompson - he's doing better in basically all aspects, and doing it at a level higher. That's significant. -
Scoreboard CHAR: Haviland, 6:05ct BHAM: Montas, 7:05ct W-S: Heidenreich, 5:30ct KAN: Lowry, 6:05ct

Prospects of the Month - May 2015
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) thanks for pulling all that info together again. What about Austin and Lechich? And they showing anything? Austin was red hot at the plate in April, cooled off for a while, but is now picking back up again. Defensively, he's throwing out runners at a very good pace, but I've heard some negatives on the catching end as well. Lechich isn't doing a done statistically, but he's very good defensively, has good speed, and shows some promise at the plate. Here's an in-person scouting report on Lechich. This article has interviews with both. -
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) I know they'll never do it (perhaps Boston, NYY, NYM or Cubs will), but I'd honestly grab either Aiken or Matuella at our slot. Considering the underwhelming talent available in this draft I'd rather take a chance with an injured pitcher perhaps never succeeding than drafting the next Broadway or McCulloch. Hell, even if they denied our offer we're still picking Top 10 next year with another Top 20 (I would have said Top 10 a few weeks ago but theyll prbably flounder around .500 all year) Quinarvy is on the same page with you.
