  1. This is our monthly feature, letting you know who has had the best months down on the farm. The hitter was pretty obvious this time, the pitcher not so much. Overall it wasn't a great month in the org for performances, but there were some stand-outs. Here's the article. Anyone we missed you think should be there?
  2. Our Will Siskel recently visited the Winston-Salem Dash, to get an in-person look at some key White Sox prospects. He got video, talked with scouts and the affiliate front office, etc. The result is this article, with a bunch of videos (game and BP) that you won't see anywhere else, and some really great scouting insight from not only Will but also gleaned from talking with the scouts nearby. Give it a read - this is really good stuff, and the Dash have a number of intriguing prospects.
  3. A little late to start one, but here is the scoreboard. Danny Hayes is getting my attention. Second time in three games he walked his team off. Hitting near .300, with a near .400 OBP in May. Remember, this guy went from Kanny straight to BHAM. Not much power yet, and he did (predictably) struggle in April. But I didn't think he'd recover this quickly with that big a jump.
  4. FutureSox' Brian Bilek profiles Tyler Jay. This is a really good, detailed profile.
  5. Here it is - Tyler Jay, profiled by Brian Bilek (raBBit). This is a really detailed and well-written profile, and as he's among the top White Sox targets, you should definitely read it.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 09:42 AM) Yes, outside of having the Sox call him up, this is the next best case scenario from him. If nothing else, his paycheck probably just jumped by a factor of 10 or so. Plus if he does well over there, which he really should, he could make more money in endorsements and potentially a longer contract. But yeah, 300k for a season is probably more than 10 times what he makes right now. And I'm pretty sure they give him housing over there too, so he could save a lot of that.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) The fact that the White Sox granted the release for him to go in the middle of the season pretty well tells you they don't see a clear scenario where he helps the team. As I said some weeks ago, this was the perfect scenario for him. He had nowhere to go, he's just reaching what would be his peak years as a pro, and he's proven he can hit at this level quite effectively. He's got a big personality, and the patience at the plate to handle junk-ballers. This way he gets to go make some money playing, and maybe he even gets a shot at sliding back over to the states in a year or two or three and help someone if he tears up KBO.
  8. Deal with KT Wiz is for one year, $300k USD. Looks official.
  9. We'll have Tyler Jay up in the next few hours.
  10. Turns out the big data was right (as was my wild ass guess a few weeks ago). Black is headed for TK Wiz of the KBO in Korea.
  11. Temporary Inactive List means he's not hurt, the team still has control over him, but he's left the team for some "other" reason on a short term basis. I've seen this for a number of things - it can include bereavement or family/personal issues, disciplinary issues, or any number of other things. If it is a long-term thing, he'd be on the Restricted List. But in this case, I have a theory. I've seen some "smoke" around the idea that maybe he's exploring playing in Asia, perhaps Korea. Not confirmed, but certainly would make sense. I actually suggested this as a possible path for him some weeks ago, but now I've seen some evidence that may be what's going on. Again this is not confirmed - just a theory based on some evidence. We'll see.
  12. We've got another writer "on tour" seeing some White Sox prospects live at the affiliates. This is our own content, covering prospects that in many cases you can't find other coverage on. Plus we add our own views on even the higher end ones. This week it is one of our newer writers, Will Siskel, seeing Kannapolis and Winston-Salem. He saw Kanny last night, and got some really good stuff. The starting pitcher was the same guy I video'd earlier this month (Yency Almonte), but as it turns out we got to see pitching development in action - he was using a very different pitch mix and made some improvements based on coaching that you can see. There are also scouting reports on a handful of hitters in here, and some tidbits from scouts he was sitting with. Here is the Kanny story - give it a read to get an idea about some prospects the White Sox have on the farm. Kanny isn't the most loaded team right now, but a few of these guys do have major league potential. He'll be at W-S tonight, where there will be significantly more higher end prospects to watch (Adam Engel, Cleuluis Rondon, Trey Michalczewski, Jake Peter, etc.), and a starting pitcher who is starting to get a little helium (Robin Leyer).
  13. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 27, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Charlotte is showing Beck as today's starter but we all know Beck will start tomorrow for the Sox so any guesses as to whom starts for Charlotte? Was wondering the same thing. They did just promote Onelki Garcia from BHAM, and he has started before (though not this year). Maybe they have a bullpen day?
  14. Worth noting, we'll have a writer at W-S live tonight, like we did at Kanny last night. We'll tweet some reports here and there. Content for the blog is ongoing.
  15. Recap posted. The article going into scouting details from the Kanny game is under construction.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Great piece Matt! I think this a better job of highlighting Coats. Hawkins still has a massive ceiling, he's just very young and has some holes as to be expected. Hawkins is still clearly the better prospect. I was more pointing out that perhaps Hawkins isn't the Top 5 guy some folks have him at, and I think Coats isn't in the 30s anymore either.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) Yency Almonte to start for Kanny. Adams will throw tomorrow. Saw that. Sucks for us, since we've already filmed Almonte and I was psyched to get some Adams footage. Oh well.
  18. Courtney Hawkins is the #7 prospect in the system. Coats was just outside the Top 30. Vastly different tools in some regards, and on the surface they seem nothing alike other than both being outfielders. But if you dig deeper, you may find they aren't as far apart as you originally thought. Here I make that case. Let's hear it - how whacked out am I on this?
  19. Scoreboard CHAR: Drabek, 6:05 KAN: Adams, 6:05 (BHAM, W-S are off) Will Siskel, one of our newer writers, will be live to see Adams in Kanny, as well as doing some interviews, etc. And he'll be in W-S tomorrow for Robin Leyer. Watch for updates on the twitter feed, and content on the blog in the coming days.
  20. Don't get to movies very often, but saw Mad Max with the wife this weekend. That was really, really good. I've grown tired of most of the action movie genre the past few years, with most (but not all) just not doing it for me. This one was not only really fantastic in terms of action sequences, but the characters were interesting, tne plot lines had some unique features, and there wasn't that over-reliance on CGI you see so much of now. Fun dialogue too. Only negative I'd say was, at times, I think they tried a little too hard with the weird-world stuff to get that point across, but it wasn't a big deal. I will say this though - I usually love the previews section before the movie. The previews with this movie were universally awful, and I don't think I've seen that before. Jurrasic Park reboot, San Andreas, National Lampoon's Vacation reboot, and Terminator Genesis. I hope that isn't a sign of how the summer movies will go, because if it is, I'd rather watch the slow motion car wreck that is the White Sox. Horrible looking movies.
  21. Wow, no thread? Never seen that before. I step away for a day... Here's the recap!
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 22, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20150522 Charlotte- Beck Birmingham- Blackmar Winston Salem- Cose Kannapolis- Guerrero Probable says Adams, but he just pitched in the DH, so obviously that's not right. One of the local photogs said it's Guerrero, so probably him.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 22, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) Well you have a point there...it's the one development technique they do well. They've been pretty darn good at developing starting pitchers period. They had been churning out valuable relievers at a big rate too, until the last 2-3 years when that fell off. Hitters on the other hand...
