  1. Also interesting, the Sox signed Andre Ramirez (LHP) to a minor league deal. Was the Twins' 2012 6th round pick, had originally been signed over-slot then had his bonus knocked way down due to a shoulder issue they found. Pitched two seasons with pretty lousy results, released in April. He's 20, turns 21 in June. Stoltz says he's got intriguing stuff, but is very inconsistent.
  2. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 19, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) Kanny made a series of moves today. LHP Jose Bautista promoted to Winston-Salem. RHP Alex Powers activated from the DL OF Adam Engel to the DL. The injury hasn't been released at this point. Part of a bunch... LHP Evan Crawford to DL for BHAM, Bryan Blough promoted from W-S to replace him. LHP Jose Bautista to W-S to replace Blough, Alex Powers off DL for KAN to replace Bautista OF Adam Engel to DL for KAN, OF Hunter Jones to replace him
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 18, 2014 -> 01:06 AM) I thought Godzilla was f***ing terrible. Unbelievably boring movie. Glad someone else agrees with me here. What a disappointment. Horrible writing and dialogue, so-so action, just painful to watch overall.
  4. Looking forward to seeing those of you going. After the panel, feel free to say hello.
  5. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ May 16, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) Don't they have 5 starters? Beck, Jaye, Snodgress, McCully, Recchia. That's true, forgot about McCully. Thing is, he's been far better as a reliever than a starter.
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 16, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) Nester Molina... Maybe, though that experiment pretty well failed. They could do that and promote a reliever like Hanson from W-S.
  7. Some help you guys are. Just gonna leave me hanging out there in a field of Cubs fans. Come on Blake, you live in North Dakota. Come to Chicago for the weekend.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 16, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) Terry Doyle gets released. Roster now at 24. Figure Bassitt is back or they call someone up Bassitt told me he's targeting an ASB return, so not likely him. Other possibilities... Adam Lopez was targeting May originally, but I doubt they push him straight to to AA. Montas has looked good in A+ but again, seems like a rush. Bucciferro is more age-appropriate in AA but he's been just OK at W-S. McCray is supposedly out for a long time, Cose is gone for the year. For now, they may just have an AA reliever with some starting history do that for a while.
  9. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 16, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) When will Danish debut at Winston-Salem? Sunday was last I heard.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 16, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Yeah, why is this overlapping with the game? Have it after. I'm actually going to be at the game and I could go to this if it were later. Not sure why the scheduled it that way, probably they just talked to Cubs people at first. Figures.
  11. I'm calling on SoxTalk to represent. Baseball Prospectus is having a baseball Q&A session on Saturday, May 24th, at Pizzeria Serio (1708 W. Belmont). There's free pizza, and the talk will be focusing on the upcoming June amateur draft and both Chicago teams - kind of a big deal this year with the Sox having the #3 pick, and Cubs #4. The panel includes: Harry Pavlidis, Ken Funck, Mauricio Rubio, Jordon Gorosh (Baseball Prospectus) Dayn Perry (CBS Sports) Bruce Miles (Daily Herald Cubs beat reporter) Sahadev Sharma (ESPN Chicago, Vine Line) John Arguello (Cubs Den) Matt Cassidy (FutureSox) Details (more at link): Saturday, May 24, 2014 2:00-5:00 pm Central Time Pizzeria Serio 1708 W. Belmont Ave Chicago, IL 773-525-0600 So come on out! What else will you be doing with your Saturday afternoon? Buy a beer, munch on free pizza, hear about baseball and the draft, ask some questions and mingle some BP guys. Its on the NORTH SIDE, and they couldn't get a Sox beat writer (during SOX/NYY Games), so I'm afraid I'll be overwhelmed by Cubs fans. Can we get a few Sox hats in the crowd???
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 15, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) Yeah, looking in hindsight, Rangers got a major steal, wonder what Sox could of got if he was a deadline deal last year. Thank you. I was considering Wheeler also. I did mention Surkamp in the waivers by the way. Sorry, missed Surkamp. Wheeler? Andre? He was drafted. Now if you want to consider his 2013 draft, that's another whole list.
  13. Love the index in the OP, nicely done. LHP Eric Surkamp as a waiver claim might be worth mentioning. Also there are a handful of minor leaguers he has picked up that are still down there, most are non-prospects but a couple have a little interest maybe. Guys like Mike Recchia, Jake Sanchez, David Putman. But not sure it is worth even assigning those to him, he probably only signed a piece of paper in those cases.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ May 15, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) Charlotte and Winston-Salem rained out. Kanny too.
  15. Discussed yesterday, and again today, in the transactions thread. Recchia to AA, Danish to A+, Lowry to A.
  16. All good moves to see. Recchia didn't belong in A+, and I'm interested to see what Lowry brings to the table as a starter. FYI, talked with Bassitt, he says they are targeting a return around the all star break. Non-baseball injury, but don't know anything beyond that, and didn't want to push the subject.
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) No, actually, I went to a Presbyterian chruch on Dickens. Ah. Well, now I've thoroughly derailed this thread.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2014 -> 07:05 AM) When I lived in Oak Park, my church was right near Damen/Webster. Spent a lot of time in that area. St. Hedwig's I assume? Beautiful building, had a fire a few years ago but I think they've fixed everything now.
  19. Cleto hit 100 on the gun last night. Source says Thaddius Lowry is the guy who will take Danish's spot in the Kanny rotation. I thought it might be Brennan, who should be back around now.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 14, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) Yeah but you also didnt like Ozzie's sunday lineups. He's basically forcing Jose to take an actual day off, the guy wants to play through it. It's nothing structural at the moment I believe but its painful as most ankle injuries are. For one thing, I doubt you saw me complain about that, that was other people. Second, if I did, it wasn't that he was giving guys rest - I liked that he did that. In his case, I just didn't get his need to get the entire bench into one game, which didn't make much sense.
  21. This has been consistently my biggest gripe with Ventura. He doesn't rest his regulars nearly enough. I mean, Abreu is in his first MLB-length season, he's been out there hobbling around like Kirk Gibson for days, and his plan is to give him 1 game off, some time in the future? Jeez, I'd be fine if Abreu got a day off a week, let him play 130 games this year to get broken in. No need to wear him into an injury. And he wonders why the team had a couple games they seemed "flat".
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ May 14, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Whew that sounds tiring. I want to ride my bike to a game but get confused which roads are good after Pilsen. I thought I was a good walker for walking to UC from Chicago and Damen all the time. I live out in the burbs now, but I used to love just wandering around in the city. The Sox game thing was a one-time deal, just wanted to try it once. I took it semi-slow, stopped once for some water, and again at Ricobene's for some grub. Took Milwaukee most of the way to downtown, then Canal south to Cermak, went east and cut south on local streets through Chinatown and Union Park. Took like 4 hours.
  23. I actually rode from Bucktown to The Cell for a game a couple times, worked really well, except the mayhem right around the park. I took it slower so I wasn't a sweaty mess, but it was nice, about 8-9 miles. Also walked from Bucktown (Damen/Webster) to The Cell for a game once, just as an adventure. Took the train home. But the walk was kind of a fun cultural experience, seeing all the neighborhoods.
  24. QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 14, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) De Aza next? Not really the same situation as Keppinger... in any way.
