Kuhn has a friggin bat. Remenowsky in AA so far: 5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K I still don't get why they have been moving Shoemaker through the system so slowly. Anyone know anything about his defensive abilities? QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) another solid game by axelrod -- 6 innings, four hits, one walk, 5 ks, one run. might not be more than a middle reliever, but he throws strikes. I still think he's a starter, and a good one, in the majors. If someone from the starting staff goes down, he's on top of my list. Above Stewart certainly.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 08:23 AM) I think you might be on to something. The weather is supposed to be crappy tomorrow though so I expect those prices to drop. I'd be out there myself if I knew it wasn't going to rain. At least right now, I am seeing a predicted high of 64 degrees, with possible showers in the evening - after the game is over. Sounds like great weather by Opening Day standards to me. And I'll be there! -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Im not saying he needs to fold, but it doesnt even seem like he is negotiating. He just seems like he keeps saying "nope, not gonna happen on my watch" We know the Wrigley "aura" is a money machine. If Quinn wants the state to start making more money on it, he needs to start getting into the negotiations a little bit more And it will still be a money machine. Even if the Cubs have to spend 10 years renovating the place part by part, it will still be a money machine. The Cubs have zero leverage here - they aren't leaving that neighborhood (except perhaps for a season if they do a gut rehab of the place). And Quinn is already being pounded for not doing enough to get IL out of its deep fiscal hole. He isn't going to just hand over money to the Cubs - not going to happen. At most, they will work out a bond deal, or ISFA will take over management and get revenue in exchange for bond money up front. But no taxpayer dollars will go to this, I'd almost guarantee it. Also, probably irrelevant but worth noting... Quinn and Madigan are both Sox fans.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 09:19 AM) All they had to say was "Elk Grove" or "Arlington Heights" and Rahms ears were open. You bring this up all the time, and it has never made sense. Leaving Wrigleyville would be an abject disaster for the Cubs. Rahm knows this, and would simply laugh at such a bluff.

QUOTE (OilCan @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 10:48 PM) Dvorsky finished 2011 with some good stats: 18 games 4-0 W/L record 2.93 ERA 27.2 IP 20 hits allowed 9 walks 32 Ks Surprisingly, Joe is starting in Great Falls again, according to the Great Falls Roster. I wouldn't put any stock in the rosters currently up for GF or Bristol. That said, if he isn't on the roster for Kanny or W-S, then he's probably in extended Spring Training. He could be back in GF from there, or could be added to Kanny as the year goes on and players move around. For a 23 year old who put up strong numbers in a hitters' league last year, I do agree with you, kind of surprising he didn't open in Kanny.

Ryan Kussmaul with a fun pitching line: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 4 K QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) Mediocre start for Molina. Unfortunately, our minor league prospects are not performing well so far at all. 1. It is still way early, and who knows what these guys are working on at this point. 2. Phegley, Kuhn, Axelrod, Rienzo, K Smith and Ravelo have all started hot, among the real prospects. Plus a bunch of marginal and non-prospect types. What you are really saying is, the Top 5 names or so are starting slow. But, again, see #1.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) They're going to just skip their 5th starter? Who is their 5th starter? Yeah, I'm not 100% sure they'll run Masterson out there tomorrow if they don't need to. Its going to be cold and windy, its early in the season, etc. I guess we'll see what they decide. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 01:32 AM) I really hope the Sox turn into one of those closer factories. It's a great way to turn nothing into something. Teams pay out the nose for good relievers at the deadline. It does seem like the Sox have been pretty good at churning out good relievers. And there are a few guys in AA and AAA right now that seem like good future candidates.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) Kuhn is just a hitting machine. I heard some scouting info on him once that made me laugh. His whole minor league career, he's just been a hitter, but with no positional home. This was so manifest that the scouts started referring to other players who hit but have no position as "he's Tyler Kuhn". He has become an adjective.
-
Also... Tyler Friggin Kuhn. And explain to me why Remenowsky is in AA. Or why a guy like Bryan Blough, who got crushed in Bristol last year, is closing for Kanny, while Keegan Linza is apparently going to stay in Rookie Ball. Sorry for the mini-rant, had to stand up for my AAP's.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) Never would have thought that Hernandez would be a starter in AA and Santiago would be the closer at the beginning of ST. Probably just trying to develop all of his pitches like they did with Jones, still a pretty high likelihood he ends up a major league reliever. I disagree, though I have not seen him pitch more than just a highlight video. But based on scouting reports and stats, I think he's a starter.

Series by series, road trip / home stand at a time. Went 1-2 vs TEX, about what was expected. If they can take 2 of 3 in CLE and come home 3-3, I'd be pretty happy. Pitching matchups in the first two games look good for the Sox. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) Morel back to the two hole, really? People are deciding it was time to dump him from there after 2 games, really? -
QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) We got mothafukin' snakes! Only Australia would have snakes that can "glide through the air". Also, kudos to the writer for working that in to a story about snakes on a plane.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) Andy Wilkins has some promise. You are totally correct, he slipped my mind for some reason.

I have no idea why, but Rem is in AA B-Ham to start the year. Seems bizarre to me, but, that's where they put him. Probably can get back to AAA again quickly with a hot start.
-
A few names I think will do a lot better than people expect this year... Pedro Hernandez Chris Bassitt Rangel Ravelo Also, a couple guys I was surprised got put in B-Ham (and I saw someone else post this too): Remenowsky (AAP) and Brandon Kloess. I would have figured both of them for Charlotte, and quite frankly there are a bunch of guys in the Charlotte pen that I think are just taking up space. So I'd say both of those guys might end up being among the first promotions in the minors this year. And finally, not sure if he's really a sleeper per se, but I like Tyler Kuhn a lot, and wouldn't be surprised if he sees the big club at some point this year.

Leighton Pangilinan starting the season en fuego. With no real 1B prospects in the system, if he has gotten past his off-field issues and can hit well, he has a clear path ahead of him.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2012 -> 06:34 AM) Is Olacio really 6'7"? Wow, the biggest lefty I can remember with the Sox was Jeremy Sisco. Thornton's big, but not THAT big. Sox just released a 6'10" lefty in the past month: Garrett Johnson.
-
B-Ham loses their opener, 3-2. Molina; 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K Griffith and S Rodriguez with a scoreless IP each - I guess Griffith is a reliever now Corey Smith 2-4, 2B, R Mitchell and KW Jr with the other two hits for B-Ham Seems hard for me to believe Corey Smith would be taking time away from Jon Gilmore - is Gilmore injured? There is no logical reason to play Smith over a healthy, actual prospect.

Who should Romney choose as VP candidate?
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
Rubio says he's out. Somehow doubt they'd go for a Bush right now. Christie, I hate to say it, but his weight will be an image issue. He's also a little brash. I think Romney may have made a deal with Gingrich, for Newt to either be VP or in his cabinet, in exchange for staying in the race as long as possible to keep Santorum at bay. They had a private meeting a couple weeks ago. Neither of the Paul's are going to work at all. I think he goes for either Paul Ryan or Bobby Jindal - if he doesn't have a VP deal in place with Gingrich as noted above. -

12" team again this year, mens' B-level (A-B-C), north suburbs. I played like 6 positions last year, we'll see where I end up this year. Starting first week of May, and it can't come soon enough!
