QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) Here's a pretty good article making a case for a minimalist way to uphold ACA: http://balkin.blogspot.com/2012/04/bounded...uphold-aca.html The writer shows his hand right away with... He/she can't be serious with this. The argument is around the FEDERAL Constitution, not the states, which is an entirely different animal for this purpose. No lawyer worth a damn would even try to make that argument in any seriousness.

If you want to look at an AAP thread for a player no longer in the Sox minor league system, follow this link to the AAP archives.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 08:15 AM) Close it but don't archive it. I'll call it 50/50 he's back in Charlotte before the end of the year. OK, we can leave it here.

Have to admit, I was surprised, and I want to say that I was obviously dead wrong in the other thread a couple weeks ago when I said Jones wasn't in the discussion. That all said, at this point, I'd rather have a guy like Jones than Bruney anyway.

Derek became a free agent in 2010 and never ended up signing anywhere. Closing and archiving.

Ricks was released, late in the 2011 season. Closing and archiving this thread.

In probably the biggest surprise of Spring Training, Nate Jones has made the Sox' 25-man roster to start the 2012 season. He has struggled a bit with control, but his K numbers have been fantastic, and he has added a change-up to his FB/curve repertoire. We'll keep his thread open for now, until he's got qualifying innings under his belt. But congrats to Nate!

Zach Stewart makes the 25-man roster. At this point, he's probably not considered a prospect anymore, so we'll archive this thread shortly.

Justin has been released by the White Sox. Closing and archiving this thread.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 10:53 PM) So they decided to got through the C's and cut a bunch of players...Tyson Corley, Justin Cassel, Kyle Colligan and Alden Carrithers. No big surprises, though Colligan sure was an epic disappointment. Came in with so much talent, never put it together.

I've read articles in a number of places in the last day or two, that seem to be indicating that on second review, they are not so sure Kennedy's questioning was indicative of him being against it. More than one author is suggesting that it seems more, in their view as legal analysts, Kennedy was looking for assurances that there was some limit to Congressional power. Just thought it was worth mentioning - this might not be as cut and dried as we think.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) Hmm... http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/20...hicago-District Oh come on. Jesus wore a hoodie too, does that mean all people in hoodies are saints?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) At least 1 of our pitchers is gonna suck this year; most of the money is on Bruney. If Dan lights up AAA the first few months of the season then he will probably be a nice addition for a playoff push. I'd like to see him force his way up here or outa here. This is his key year. Last year he killed it in AA, was promoted to AAA, did well for a while, but then seemed to hit a wall. My suspicion is, this is due less to AAA hitters, and more to the fact that he missed a lot of time in 2010 with the leg injury (not pitching related) and ran out of gas. 2012 will tell us which is the case. If he puts up numbers in Charlotte like he has at every other level, he'll be among the 2 or 3 names likely to be called up during the season.

Hard to pick one. Just need Rios/Beckham/Dunn/Peavy to live up to their billing. Its that simple.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) Tax of $X, buy this thing and we'll credit you $X. vs Buy this thing or we'll tax you $X. Why is one of these clearly within the bounds of the constitution and the other isn't? How is the second not Congress exercising the same authority in a similar manner with the same outcome? I just told you why. So have 4 other people. It is different because it requires you to buy a consumer product. Now, it can be argued that those two things you list are financially a similar impact, and the delivery of service to citizens is in essence the same. And therefore, you can think it is a good thing. But simply, mechanically, and on its face, it is NOT the same. It is crossing a line, and the only way to make that OK is to move said line, which can really only be done via a Constitutional amendment. They should have had the balls to just make it a tax and do it right the first time. And if that wouldn't survive, then go another route.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) Only 1 missed day for Rios is good, I guess (assuming he actually wants to be int he lineup this year). It sure does seem like there have been a lot of ST injuries around baseball this year, so if the team can go into Opening Day fully healthy (sans Brandon Short, who was never in the 25 man roster discussion and doesn't count), that is a win. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) They're not really different means, though. The PED analogy doesn't hold because it's introducing a new mechanism to the system, not a rewording of the same mechanism. You and Balta keep saying this, and it keeps not being true. Requiring the purchase of a consumer product is absolutely and clearly a new mechanism, and a new exercise of Congressional authority. Even if you think that said expansion of authority is OK, you cannot truthfully argue that it isn't an expansion at all.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) Then stop framing the whole issue like the justices are f***ing over everyone by not doing what you want them to do, which happens to be something they're not supposed to do. Stop making it out like Scalia and the like are in Fox News' pockets. The whole thing seriously gets old. "We didn't get what we want so the other guys are obviously doing something wrong." That's essentially the liberal/administrative position in this whole debate. I somewhat agree. I think Roberts, Thomas and Kennedy are all thoughtful justices who stick to a very clear, well-grounded philosophy on the law. But then there are the other two. Alito is a windsock, he showed that during his confirmation hearings. And Scalia, as I said earlier, has stopped giving a s*** and just spouts talking points. So I'll stick to my guns about those two.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) Which is an at will state. As I understand it, there are only a couple or three states that are not purely at-will. CA and MT, I think, are the exceptions.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 05:31 PM) Just try to gauge who may a be a future criminal. Deunte Heath seems a good prospect then.

Dan has made one ST appearence with the big club so far: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K. I talked with Dan a few weeks ago. He expects to be in Charlotte, but he's not yet sure in what role, though he seems to think probably being a setup man. He's been a closer most of his way through the system, but he has also done setup work.

We just did an update of the AAP forum. See the thread in PHT for details. If you have an AAP already, go update the player's thread! if you don't, go find one and adopt!

For those unaware, within the Future Sox forum on the board (which is where we have all manner of discussion about prospects and minor leaguers, including game day threads during the season), there is a subforum called "Adopt a Prospect". The idea is, you pick a prospect (or two or three) you like, create a thread, and add information as time goes on. Updates on their performance, promotions, background, scouting info, etc. In this way, we have a nice forum full of detailed write-ups about some of the top prospects in the Sox system. We recently cleaned up the forum a bit, got rid of some now-gone players, updated the list of who is available, etc. And since in the next few weeks, players will be assigned to their teams, this next month or so is a great time to pick out a prospect you like and start a thread. Or to update the one(s) you already have. The AAP forum is here. In that forum there are two pinned threads. One is a LIST, showing which prospects are already taken, as well as a list of ones still available for adopting. The other is a general discussion thread for AAP, where you can post your claim to a player, so that we all know who you are taking. Are you disappointed with how the big league club looks? Want to focus on the future? Then this is your forum! Stop by, read a little, and join the party.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) Mark Tushnet with a not-so-kind review of Scalia's actions during the ACA hearings: It seems like, in the last few years, Scalia has just plain stopped trying. Its sad, and another good reason for SCOTUS justices to serve one term, maybe like 10 years, and be done. No re-nomination or re-election, just one and done.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Or Ron Karkovice in RF? Not nearly as bad, and not CF. Karko had some degree of athleticism about him. But Kittle?
