  1. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) Meh, it came on my new computer and I havent really hated it yet. I hated it with a passion when I got it on a new computer, a year or two ago. It was utter garbage. Fortunately, they've fixed a lot, but more importantly, I followed about a dozen steps recommended out there on some MS Windows user sites to make it work better.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) Bill was a corporate centrist democrat. A centrist democrat in this country is middle-right in most other countries. Just think about this in the context of the health debate. Conservatives are freaking out over a public option. That would be to the right of just about every industrialized country's health care system. Nailed.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) I just wish Xe (Blackwater) got the same treatment for killing people. Or the banks got the same treatment for trying to destroy the world. Agree on the first, disagree on the second. Why on earth would a bank want to destroy the world?
  4. Dubler's regular season is over. He finished with a .229/.338/.305/.643 line, so for the second straight season, he disappoints. He only got in 118 AB over 41 games as he split time in the Great Falls lineup with Chase Blackwood (84 AB) and Zach Larson (79 AB). About the only season-long positive for him is that he draws walks pretty well, as shown with that .109 IsoOBP. But the lack of average, lack of power (just 8 XBH in 118 AB, no HR), and relatively high K rate (34 K in those 118 AB) are not good. He did manage to finish stronger than he started - he hit .281, with 3 of his season's 7 doubles, plus 7 walks (.410 OBP) in his last 10 games. His GF team is in the playoffs, currently tied 1-1. He has been the C for both games, going 2-for-8 (both singles), 2 K, and has thrown out the one runner trying to steal against him. As for 2010, one can only hope that Dubler gets to Kanny next season and gets his bat going early, because his chances at a major league career are fading fast. He needs a solid season in A ball in 2010.
  5. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Oh god... all the righteous indignation on here. He flipped em the bird... big flippin' deal. Dude started a new thread to tell us he was proud of his actions. His actions would be considered by most to be lame at best, obnoxious or beligerent at worst. And he posted it... on a discussion board. You think its righteous indignation to call him on acting like a doofus?
  6. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) why? You really need to ask?
  7. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) my motives are half political and half economic. my bird flipping was economic. Still lame.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 09:30 AM) The same people who were saying the deficits were too big at $300 billion are now saying $2 trillion is OK, so yes, it works both ways. I'm not sure I've seen any of those. They probably exist, but I haven't seen or heard such a thing. The Dems who were being overly partisan in the past usually chose other issues to complain about.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) I say it's funny because it's obviously a disguise for being ultra-partisan. It's only an outrage if there's a "D" after the President's title. But I guess it works both ways. It does work both ways, and for some of them, it is indeed about being stupidly partisan. That doesn't mean its everyone, and it doesn't mean the root cause isn't something worth attention. We can't keep spending like this without seriously jeapordizing the future for everyone.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Which is why it's funny. Where were these people 11 months ago? I'm not sure I'd say its funny, I think its a good thing. But I agree with you that a lot of people making a lot of noise about it now, didn't seem to care when it was the Republicans spending too much money, or when we decided to go into a pointless $1T war.
  11. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 08:12 AM) Actually, I didn't say they don't stand for anything. I just didn't exactly see a singular cause that brought out people. If it wasn't healthcare, it was the bailout, or the deficit, or this, or that. What I'm saying is that they don't exactly have a specific agenda that they are pushing - at least as far as I can see. The main theme is, too much government (or more specifically, too much spending by government). Then of course there are any number of offshoot themes orbiting around that.
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 03:12 AM) Viggo Mortensen? Viggo has always looked skinny to me, wiry maybe. Carson was built short and stocky. Also not the affect I'd be looking for, if I was casting. But I haven't come up with anyone good yet.
  13. B-Ham still in rain delay, but here is the gamecenter link anyway. GF plays at 8:05pm CT, Terry Doyle (who has had a very nice year after same at Bristol in 2008, but is a bit old for Pioneer at 23) starts
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) LOL, awesome.
  15. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) R/D and vast majority of technology services are going overseas as well, it's not just some rusty old factory being replaced playing into the trade deficit. also need to add oil / energy into the mix. That is my point, this is what concerns me.
  16. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) google should block them, makes people think AP Yeah, I have to admit, I thought that too at first, then clicked around and realized not. Its kinda like those fliers you get in the mail, telling you that your car warranty is almost up and you should extend it - complete with font and icons that look JUST LIKE Ford or GM stuff.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) There are 2 things that are going to be required for the trade deficit to go down. First, stop using oil. Second, there needs to be a reorganization of the global currency system; eventually China and other places in the developing world are going to no longer be able to prop up the dollar as a method of stimulating their own economies. When that happens, the value of the dollar will fall some relative to those currencies and that will be a huge boost to U.S. manufacturing. You are right on the oil, but frankly, I think you are out in space on the currency solution. The best two things we can do are get off oil, and get in front of some new technologies, preferably ones that can benefit us a lot here as well, like alt energy.
  18. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) it's the AP, they don't like this. linking that is very telling. No, its the AC, whatever the heck that is.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) it's a sign that, even if the economy has a slight recovery, it won't be sustainable as the trade deficit will just balloon again. it's not a good sign for long term viability. Its not a good sign for the long term viability of manufacturing. I agree there. But as you and I have discussed before, the way to cut into this is to get onto the leading edge on some things, not trying to protect aging industry in state.
  20. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2...aws.html?cat=62 there's a lot of em. i would imagine the capital police would be pretty good at estimating this type of stuff. the pictures of the crowd i've seen are actually pretty impressive LOL, hover over the "crowd estimated at" link in that article. It goes to, I kid you not, rightwingnuthouse.com. Anyway, like I said, I'm happy its going on. Might be more or less, but probably similar in size, to the larger Iraq War protest crowds that were in the 100-200k range. And as it happens, I agree in principle with both groups.
  21. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Have they pegged an actor for Carson or any of the other characters yet? I'll be interested to see who they find to play Freemont as well. This has potential to be a great movie if done right... I haven't seen an actor attached yet for any role, but I believe Dreamworks owns the rights. Carson will be hard to get right. Most of the strong leading men that you'd think of to be, basically, America's first action hero, are not going to look right. Carson is built more or less like Harvey Keitel - on the short side, stocky/beefy, craggy face. Most of your action hero types don't fit that. I was thinking maybe Ed Harris for the older version of Carson, but you need someone who can play him younger, and I don't know who that might be.
  22. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) maybe i know they banned anything ads that were critical of moveon.org http://www.examiner.com/a-983100~Robert_Co...On_org_ads.html and donated a lot to Obama. You can say 'librul' all you want, but they are pro-Obama. which is fine, they can be pro-whatever they want as far as I'm concerned as long as they don't get special treatment from the White House And if you read the article you linked, you'll see why they took down the ads.
  23. I'm actually pretty happy these protests are going on. Now, some of the crowd of course will be whack-jobs, as with any protest of any kind. But the general idea that the government is spending too much money and trying to intrude where it shouldn't, I agree with. Of course, there were protests just like this one, but protesting the Iraq War, back in 2003-ish. And they were bigger than this (I am seeing "thousands" as the description of this one, which is pretty vague) it appears. I agreed with that too. My annoyance though, is with the bulk of people I see getting all upset about us spending $900B over 10 years on health care reform, and yet many of those same people had no issue with going into a fully unjustified and useless war that killed thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of others and cost MORE THAN THAT. All told, I think the damage done by overspending on health care is a hell of a lot less harmful than overspending to go to war for no good reason. Just my view. In any case, I like protests. I like that people voice their opinions, even if I disagree with some of them. And I'd like to see the current Dem Congress try to get the message on this overspending (and yes, I think its a lot more on them than on Obama).
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) I love the juxtaposition of "Marxist czars." Its almost as if most people have virtually no understanding of Marxism, communism, socialism or 20th century history in general. almost as if?
  25. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 10:17 AM) ouch. It means Americans are buying more goods again. I'd rather we could manufacture more ourselves, but as far as economic indicators go, that is actually a good one. Its still not as large an imbalance as there was before the recession hit also. The deficit fell massively, in recent periods, because of the recession.
