QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Meh. The IOC was pretty set on giving it to Europe for those games anyways it seems. I don't really see it as equal scenarios. In 2004-2005, the anti-American sentiment in Europe and other places was at its peak. That probably played a role as well.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) I hear you. It's so disheartening to have my daughter come up from Texas and parrot Rush Limbaugh talking points. I'm astounded that her mother would be so petty and immature to brain wash a pre-teen like that. I don't remember giving a rats ass about politics when I was 12 and 13. Well, if my kid wants to do that, so be it. I'll happily engage them in debate, even at a young age. But young is young, they haven't necessarily learned yet where they will actually stand on things. Rush is just a windbag anyway, regardless of what side of the argument he's on, so I'm sure your daughter will figure that out eventually.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) How dare you be so level-headed. I just refuse to use my child as a tool for whatever political views I might have. Its akin to when you see parents at Little League games yelling and screaming like buffoons, clearly trying to live out their own competitive dreams through their kids. Makes me ill.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) By whom??? And the IOC doesn't have the stones to give it to Rio. They are trying to scare Chicago into getting their s*** together. Madrid is too close to Barcelona (I mean, timing-wise). South America will get the Olympics, but they aren't ready yet. Plus, this would be one FANTASTIC way to stick it to NY. "Oh, YOU guys lost to London for the 2012 games...that sucks. Did we mention we got the 2016 Games? How'd you like THEM Big Apples?!" Madrid was criticized for not understanding the scale of the games, which is a bad sign, but more importantly, they won't do 2 straight summer games in Europe (2012 in London). Tokyo applies every damn cycle, and Japan just had the winter olympics recently. Those two have no chance.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) And Reagan did the same thing in 1988 talking about why gun control was wrong. Bush 41 did it in 1991 too. Well, that might upset me a little more since he was not talking about education, but about guns, which seems inappropriate for a childhood audience to me. Even then though, I still wouldn't pull my kid out of class, I'd just try to explain to my kid ahead of time what was going on.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Pastor calls for President's Death edit: that article kinda sucks. Here's another one from Fox about it: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/31...test=latestnews Best part: "I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today," he told MyFOXPhoenix on Sunday. He called his message "spiritual warfare" and said he does not condone killing. LOL

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) Sorry if this is somewhere earlier in this thread, but what do you know about the '300' workout? Supposedly the workout that was used by the actors to get in shape for the film: a) Pullups - 25 reps B) Deadlifts with 135lbs - 50 reps c) Pushups - 50 reps d) 24-inch Box jumps - 50 reps e) Floor wipers - 50 reps f) Single-arm Clean-and-Press with 36lbs Kettlebell - 50 reps g) Pullups - 25 reps I don't think I could ever do 25 pull-ups in one set, even when I was in my best shape. The rest I could certainly do, but yeah, that would be a tough regimen to do all in one shot.

Whats the highest value we could get
NorthSideSox72 replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You want to trade low on Linebrink, and get that disaster of a player in Bradley in return? Trading Linebrink makes little sense, since right now we'd get very little or nothing for him. If someone does come along and offer something decent, well, great. But not likely. So the best thing to do really, is see him again in Spring Training, and see if he's gotten back on the rails. If he has, great. If not, bury him in the front of the bullpen or release him. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090903/ap_on_..._finger_severed Disgraceful. The Democrats need to stop encouraging this type of behavior. Oh come on - the Democrats? Idiots are idiots.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) just for ol' times sake: Levi Johnston: Palin Offered To Adopt Baby, Talked About Resigning After 2008 Election To "Triple The Money" Dude, can we please just let her go away? You posting little annoying stories that don't say much anyway is just prolonging the pain.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) AJP in the 3-hole is literally one of the worst moves I've ever seen Ozzie make. The guy does not drive in runs. He has 39 freakin RBI's with 13 HR. That is awful production. He may be one of our worst hitter with RISP, I know he hits about .239 with RISP at below a 700 OPS. One of the worst? Come on, talk about hyperbole, even if you disgree with it. But I happen to like it. AJ is one of the most consistent hitters on this team this year. Keep in mind the guy was hitting down the order before, with guys in front of him who are slow as hell, so his RBI number isn't a great indicator of anything. He's hitting 20 points higher than anyone else on the team, his .458 SLG is 3rd highest on the team behind Konerko and Dye - Dye is out and hitting for crap right now and Paulie makes AJ look like a track star. OBP is 3rd on the team. Contact rate is very good, he rarely strikes out. The move actually makes a whole lot of sense.

AAP: Ehren Wassermann
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Adopt-a-Prospects - Closed
Even though the season for Charlotte isn't officially over, Ehren is now off the team, training with the World Cup team (USA). So his numbers for 2009 are complete. Here is his 2009 in Charlotte.... 43 Games 7-3 W-L 63.2 IP 72 H 26 ER 3 HR 18 BB 57 K 1 Save 3.68 ERA 1.41 WHIP .290 AvgA 1.73 GO/AO 8.05 K/9 2.54 BB/9 So, the good news is, Ehren continues to strike people out at a pretty good rate, walks few batters, gives up few HR's, and induces a lot of ground balls. Bad news is that batters are hitting .290 against him, and due mostly to that his baserunners allowed are still too high. Not a great year, considering he was nails in 2008 in the same league (1.15 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, .212 AvgA, 42 K in 39 IP). The future doesn't look great for Ehren. He's got multiple relievers ahead of him in the Sox system (Nunez, Link, possibly Hernandez). He's a 28 year old repeating AAA and seeing his numbers actually diminish. He's not on the 40-man roster and wasn't called up on 9/1. If he's going to make the majors, its probably going to be for a different team with serious bullpen struggles. He does have major league experience and was solid his one long-term season there, so he may get a serious look somewhere. But even that is a long shot at this point. Hopefully, he gets a look somewhere in Spring Training in 2010. -
QUOTE (tommy @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Feel free to delete it, it is pretty close to game time so I just created one. Sorry. No worries, if he doesn't create one soon, we'll just use this one. Just trying to give him the chance.

I believe ChiSox_Sonix gets to start the game thread today.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) Well, I'll try and be serious about this discussion. When I heard about this, it pissed me off. Obama projects himself everywhere. To me, it's ALMOST (yes, again, I'm trying to discuss this rationally) indoctrination for him to push himself into the class room. NSS, you did the right thing by putting that filter out there. And honestly, I would have the same trouble with this for GWB, or any other president. It's "campaignesque". OH COOL, OBAMA TALKED TO "ME". I just don't like it, period. And then that memo that went with it. "What can you do to help our President"... please. This is a calculated move to "be cool" and influence future voters. OK, there's no Kaperbole for once with this post - that's my side of it, and it would be nice to "debate" this without the poo poo being slung. He's the President of the United States - not a candidate, but the sitting President. These kids should feel lucky to have this, from any President. Now if the kids decide they don't like him, hey, that's all fine and dandy. But treat them like adults here - let them watch, take it in, and decide what to think. They don't need their parents turning it into a fight.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:02 AM) Watched Gangs of New York on IFC last night. I think I enjoyed it more the 2nd time around. Daniel Day Lewis was amazing. He's been amazing in everything I've ever seen him in. I honestly think he's the best actor of my time (or at least he's one of them).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) Co-worker yesterday mentioned that he called his kid's school principle to make sure his kids are pulled from class during Obama's education speech to students across America. *shakes head* Ridiculous. I wouldn't do that for Bush, or Obama, or any other President. Its basically taking your own pettiness and projecting it through you child. I saw someone on Facebook vote in a "poll" asking whether or not schools should get parental permission first before they kids have to watch this speech. Seriously now, are we getting this petty? Do people really feel the need to teach their kids that some President, ANY President, "isn't their President"?

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) I'm not against it, I fkn want it. People need to realize how much of a hold Daley does have on the city. He is heavily involved in this process as well and he probably did underestimate the cost. It doesn't stop me from wanting the Olympics QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) That's my biggest issue. The city and county are run so well as it is, I see no way that the taxpayers dont end up footing the bill for a lot of it I said this before, this is NOT an event run by the City of Chicago. Its run on its own, the budgets are made by the people running it, etc. Yes, of course Daley plays a role, and will do everything he can to make it what he wants it to be. But this is NOT RUN BY THE CITY OF CHICAGO. It may or may not stick to budget, but history says it will likely be in the ballpark, and the city council and state legislature are working out safety nets as well. There are lots of things to worry about here, but having Daley (who wants this to be the last feather in his cap) bloat it to death should not be very high on your list.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) MSNBC employs a Hitler apologist. Holy s*** (yes, I actually read the whole article). Well, Buchanan always seemed to be pretty racist and out of control, but this is a new level. Truly, this man is a scumbag.

Sounds great, but I have concerns about the radiation. Most signals flying around nowadays are very weak in energy levels. This is a much higher level of concentrated magnetic energy, which therefore has a much higher level of radiation associated with it. If it starts becoming prolific, you just seriously upped the amount of radiation flying around.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) Alexei is better than OCab at SS at this point in his career. He is subpar. Defensively? Right now Alexei is nowhere near as good as O-Cab was in 2008 for the Sox.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) True. Very true. Won't deny that. Except its not true, because that isn't how the Olympics work.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) THe problem i have is that NOTHING Daley ever does comes in at or under budget. So, a $4+ billion Olympic games will easily be $6-9 billion the way he and his cronies run things. So, in the end, the city of Chicago and of course Cook County will be left with a massive tax burden. Note likely. First, history says that most metro areas that host an Olympics more or less break even when all is said and done - but the extra infrastructure, marketing and all else as aftereffects are a nice profit. Second, this isn't Daley's Olympics. He is running it. He'll have plenty of say, but he isn't managing, he isn't funding it, and a lot of the work to be done will be people NOT reporting to the City of Chicago or Cook County. I for one think that the sort term pain-in-the-ass factor is small compared to the long term gains we get out of it.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) I wish someone made an ironing board for people taller than 5'6". They are all too short and not long enough for my pants. I have that problem with showers. I get into a shower in a hotel and its at about chest level.
