QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) But he's right. And again, I think its a legitimate argument to have if anyone has proposed such a thing, but as it stands, they haven't. If they do, I'll be right there with you. There are lots of things NOT to like in the various bill proposals that I have seen (and no I haven't read the entire things, only exceprts and overviews), so I am not going to waste energy worrying about what ISN'T in there.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) It's a legitimate debate as to whether it is the role of the US government to insure all foreign nationals. Your attempts to marginalize the debate with a lame "err immygants!" is very Palin like, my friend. Except that, as has been detailed here, no one in Congress is suggesting doing that, and nothing in the bills put forth so far do that either. Its 100% straw man. Now, if it were in there somewhere, then I'd agree its a legitimate debate, and I'd not want to see it happen.

QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:11 AM) http://www.forbes.com/2009/08/27/ted-kenne...r-robinson.html This is about as credible of a source as can be found. And here is a little background on who wrote the piece Peter M. Robinson is a rese Interesting. I guess he believed a continuation of detente would be more effective than the Reagan strategy. Good thing Kennedy didn't get anything done, since he was way off base. Besides, even if he had good ideas, that's an underhanded thing to do to the President in any case, and incredibly inappropriate.

By the way, I saw reported today that on top of the realization that TARP only actually used less than half of the $700B they were allocated, but early returns so far are showing a 15% profit. Still lots of money out there of course, and some of it (AIG, I am looking at you) may never come back. But at the very least, we have clearly seen that the most dire of predictions - that the money would all be gone, all $700B, with no profit and no principal - were very wrong.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) Clearly you've never flown Alitalia. Italians are not exactly known for highly successful international business. Not really their thing. And I have indeed flown Alitalia - worst European flight I've ever had.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) Resevoir Dogs, and Kill Bill would be the exceptions. Pulp Fiction was solid too, didn't like it as much as all of you guys though. That's interesting - I thought Pulp Fiction was excellent, Resevoir Dogs was pretty good, and the Kill Bill movies were terrible.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) It's not unsubstantiated, but whatever. Its news to me - perhaps you could substantiate it for us.

QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) LOL, what on earth is that? That just looks so bad that it has to be awesome. QUOTE (Nokona @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) SOMEBODY FIRE Love the Serenity reference.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) He's around 150 innings already. With playoffs factored in, he could push 170 innings if they didn't take him out of the rotation. Not recommended for prospects. They'll probably put him back in the rotation for the playoffs (can't imagine otherwise), but he might not make a start until then. Yeah, I guess I think of guys at AA and AAA putting in 150-200 IP like guys in the majors, but I suppose they don't do that.

Kanny @ Greensboro, 6:05pm CT - no Kanny started announced yet Great Falls @ Helena, 8:05pm CT - Matt Wickswat (wat! wat!) goes for the Voyageurs Pulaski @ Bristol, 6:00pm CT - no starters announced yet

Well that sucks. Twins or not, I'd hate to see Crede have to retire, but maybe its unavoidable. He can't make it through a season anymore. I sure did love watching him play third, at least until 2008 when his back started causing him to sail throws all the time.
-
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) I believe he's out of the rotation to limit his innings pitched. Seems odd - why? Season is almost over anyway. Shirek isn't playing AFL, is he?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) You just gave the perfect argument for why stripping out the cram-down provision (allowing bankruptcy judges to modify mortgages like they can all sorts of other loans) would have been so effective. You're both right, IMO.

Remenowsky strikes out the side to hit the 100 K mark on the season - in 57.1 IP. Also, anyone else find it odd that Charlie Shirek made a relief appearance?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) Barney Frank had a gay prostitution ring headquartered in his home. They're not making this up. But Barney wasn't personally running it, some guy that lived with him was. Wow, somehow I missed that little soap opera.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) How is that a put down? It was fact. Actually, it was false, since this thread was created a day and a half before the one in PHT.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) I was probably being too vague, but my point is that the size of the city is pretty damn small. It's pretty much all within walking distance. That's true, Boston is not as big as you'd think. You can walk to everything, as you say. Actually, one of the cool things to do (at least to me anyway) is follow that city trail (I think its called the Freedom Trail), that is a yellow line on the sidewalks winding through the city to cool historical spots.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Well, you did have that prostitution ring operationg out of his house, and he was a major player in the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac stuff, yet nothing ever came of that because his party is in power. There has to be more there.... wut?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) On a gross level yes it has, but the two earner incomes are a necessity for a lot of people right now who are trying to support their large house, their auto loans, their credit cards, etc. Most families if they lost an income, would lose their house. I don't think its most, but its certainly a lot. And as I said, everything requires adjustment. But unless someone can convince me that the lifestyle increase is 100% necessities (home, food, utilities), then its going to be less risky to the segment as a whole than it would have otherwise been.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) Wasn't this reported like 8 hours ago in other threads? Yeah, and it was reported here two days ago. Why do you feel the need to add your one-liner put-downs to every thread you don't like?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Everything to do in Boston is within a 1-mile radius of Fenway. Just walk around and find something you would like to do instead of taking suggestions from other people and forcing yourself to see all of it. And yes, Fenway is a real piece of crap. It may have a dirtier feel than Wrigley, very damp and acrid in certain areas, in fact. I'd say most of Boston's great stuff to do is around downtown, not near Fenway. The area around Fenway is really only good for the bars, from what I saw. So I guess if that's your thing, then that's your neighborhood. If not, get downtown.
