QUOTE (Jbabs34 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) Just a thought here, but...Delwyn Young was designated for assignment today. Could be a possibility - I wouldn't doubt if Kenny atleast gave it a thought Welcome to the board! -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) where is this Ozzie saying that Owens will get bulk of playing time? I ASSUMED we'd go sunday lineup of Getz/Fields I'm hoping you are right - Owens becomes the 4th OF. I'll believe it when I see it. -

Usually, I'm a pretty calm poster, and a pretty big KW and Ozzie defender. However... f*** this idiotic decision. WTF are KW and Ozzie thinking here? I mean seriously, at LEAST go get someone who can hit in AAA, let alone the majors, like Kroeger or even Cook. Jerry Owens? Seriously? You STILL can't give Anderson, who is superior in just about every aspect of the game, a chance to start here? You WANT a guy with no arm playing CF? Godammit, son of a b****, f*** this cover-my-ass clique protection vendetta they have to put Owens out there when he ISN'T GOOD!!! All that said, I hope Owens does well. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) LOL. 2 guys which AAA ERAs over 10.00 so far this season.Marquez gave up 6 runs in less than 2 innings in his AAA outing. I think you're overreacting. LOL at your sample size. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) if wise goes to the DL...who comes up? Kroger? Probably, which makes Lillibridge the backup CF, I'd think. Kroeger backs up corner OF and 1B. Or maybe they even give Kroeger a look in CF. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) For those not able to watch live, please try to add a description. Thanks! Yes please. Not that I want Wise to be hurt, as I really do not, but it sounds like a helluva catch, and his injury is obviously important. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) The layoffs aren't the important part, it is the cost restructuring that needs to be done. That's sort of my point. The restructuring of costs, the new management that would come in, the ability to be a little more forward-thinking instead of purely survival mode... those will all be good things for GM and the economy in the long run. I was just saying it sucks for people that will get laid off or see reduced pay or benefits - it is an unfortunate side effect.
-
Wow, both hit #300 on those? That is awesome. Congrats to the sluggers.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) Looks like the Obama administration could be pushing GM into bankruptcy after all. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090413/bs_nm/us_autos_gm Good. But didn't they already say this, basically, like a week or two ago? Probably not as directly, but, that was the impression I got. By the way, I am not saying its GOOD that more people will lose jobs in the interim - I feel badly about that. But I am convinced that it will be better for everyone and this economy, including the people laid off, to do this now and get it over with.

Any info on why Cassel is on the DL?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 07:56 AM) Swisher for Betemit is a terrible deal. I disagree, but I am of the belief that Swisher is a bench player who had one unusually good year (that may have been chemically enhanced), and is not a good guy to have around most teams.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 08:23 AM) Apparently the pirates are just enviornmentalists who are just a bit misunderstood... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-vazq...s_b_186015.html Well, I guess it makes sense that some people in Somalia would find a way to defend these pirates. And he's certainly right about one thing - the lack of central government in Somalia is what allows this to go on. But what a joke of an article. Another man's coast guard???

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 08:17 AM) Why is everyone so darned sensative about this? Its freakin high comedy when Colbert or Stewart does it, but let someone make a joke in the filibuster about the other side and everyone flips out. Its the height of hypocrisy. Pull your panties out of your ass cracks people and deal with it. Everyone thought it was hilarious 3 months ago, now that has changed? You are right, it sounds exactly like a bunch of 12 year olds. Except it is about 12 year olds who are too damned insecure to laugh at themselves for fear of what everyone else will think. No, it would be hypocrisy if I had been one that would bash Bush for something he had zero to do with (like this situation), and then complained when others do the same. I am saying, its childish, why do it? And I wouldn't call it flipping out - I've watched the nonsense for three months, seen it go well beyond what I saw almost anyone in here do to Bush, being done by the same people who called it bad then... that, is hypocrisy.
-
Seriously, what a joke. Somehow, the death of some pirates that no one is crying about gets turned into a reason to bash Obama or liberals? When Obama may have even authorized the action and has spoken about the heroism here? This forum is getting nearly intolerable with this B.S. The level and absurdity of ire towards Obama and democrats generally is just amazing. We heard conservatives saying the Bush-bashing was over the top. So, now you not only become what you disliked, but go 3 or 4 steps beyond it, and all in the first three months of Obama's Presidency? WTF is that, are we 12 year olds in here? Well OK, sometimes we are 12 year old, but how about we decrease the frequency of our 12-year-old moments?

That was a great read.

I just really loved watching him play third base. He was a sliver under Ventura defensively, overall, but I really like watching a very good 3B with the glove. And Crede was very good, until his back started really getting to him. I also really, really wish I had been in that bar to hear Crede say "PLAY SOME f***ING JOURNEY!!!" Joe, thanks for your big part in the WS in 2005, and for everything else.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) I greatly appreciate the live updates. Sounds like you get to see some exciting players. Couldn't agree more about Nunez...it's really disappointing the overall package we got for Swisher. Oh hell, I think Betemit alone would have been an even return for Swisher. Getting Marquez and Nunez was just icing, maybe one or both turn into something valuable. I really see it as two even deals - Swisher for Betemit, and Teixera for Marquez+Nunez.

I've been saying (so has Chisoxfn), I think some people are sleeping on Shirek. He's got serious potential.

SoxTalk Official Top 25 Prospects
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 09:38 AM) How does Lance Broadway still make these lists? Prospect projection isn't just about ceiling - its also about odds. People at lower levels have much higher ceilings, but, most of them will flame out before getting to Broadway's level. Its a balance between those things. -
Here it is in the FS Forum. This is the official SoxTalk Top 25 Prospects list. NOTE: You can click on the player name, to link to their AAP page, for further information. If a player doesn't have a link, that means they don't have an AAP thread (except Viciedo, who is taken but has no thread yet) - and if you are interested, you can ask to "adopt" that prospect to track his growth through the system.
-
The experts at SoxTalk have created their 2009 list of the Top 25 prospects in the organization. The list was compiled from the individual lists of 5 posters who keep track of such things, as well as input from a handful of others, and then netted out to an overall list using a point system (similar to, say, an AP college sport ranking poll). Clicking on the name of the player will open their AAP (Adopt-A-Prospect) Page - players without AAP pages may be available, so let us know if you want to do an AAP for that player. NOTE: Certain players on the major league roster or with too much time in the majors were left out of consideration, including Chris Getz, Clayton Richard, Brent Lillibridge and a few others (in case you were wondering why they were not on the list). The players on the list are the ones still in what we consider "prospect" status. THE LIST... 1. Gordon Beckham 2t. Brandon Allen 2t. Dayan Viciedo 4. Aaron Poreda 5. Tyler Flowers 6. Jordan Danks 7. John Shelby 8. Dexter Carter 9. Jack Egbert 10. Jeff Marquez 11. Brent Morel 12. Dan Hudson 13. Eduardo Escobar 14. Lucas Harrell 15. Jose Martinez 16. Justin Cassel 17. Jon Link 18. Steven Upchurch 19. Brian Omogrosso 20. John Ely 21. Lance Broadway 22. Jon Gilmore 23. Nathan Jones 24. Charlie Shirek 25t. David Cook 25t. CJ Retherford Others receiving votes (in order of votes): Jhonny Nunez, Tyler Kuhn, Santo Luis, Clevelen Santeliz, Santos Rodriguez, Josh Kroeger, Nevin Griffith, Derek Rodriguez, Cole Armstrong, Juan Silverio, Carlos Torres, Stefan Gartrell, Donny Lucy, Miguel Negron, Anthony Carter, Kent Gerst, Drew O'Neill, Kyle McCulloch, Leroy Hunt ONE MORE NOTE... The contributors to the list will also be putting up another thread or two on this topic. One will be a "sleepers" list, where each contributor picks one or a few players they see as better than conventional wisdom, and describe why. Watch for that in the next week or two.
