  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) I'm a little surprised they haven't worked out a "consulting" contract for Ventura to come and work with Josh Fields in ST...not too far from his home. I think Robin just enjoys his family and life away from the diamond too much to give up more than a weekend or few days at a time. He has said before that he wants to stay in Cali (or wherever he is) until his kid(s) is/are off to college. I'd bet, after that, the Sox try to bring him in as some sort of coach.
  2. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Me as well...and now I am really hopin I get to party with him down in LODO (lower denver, next to Coors) LoDo = Lower Downtown, not Lower Denver (which would be LoDe).
  3. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) The GG has become such a bulls*** award. I would be cool if Alexi won though. I think it would be sort of funny in a sad way if Alexei wins it, the way he's likely to play, considering that Uribe in 2004-2006 didn't.
  4. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) Honestly, I had never even heard of that organization before you mentioned it. Are you sure you were quoting the right person in the right thread? haha. No, I was replying at you. But, I just checked, it looks like they went out of business. It was a website for police and fire recruiting, showed info on hiring/testing in the Chicago area, plus department data like salary, size, etc. If you go to ifpra.com, it now forwards to this site, which may do the same thing.
  5. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 11:43 PM) yeah since Iowans obviously love corn in sexual ways.... Balta forgot the green. He was poking fun at certain social conservatives who try to argue against gay marriage using a bizarre slippery slope argument.
  6. Cowley showing again he's pretty clueless. Not about Alexei maybe winning a GG, which he might do. But his description of why is the opposite of reality. He's not going to be good but unflashy, he's going to be seriously flashy, with moments of stupid mistakes too.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) If it were one of Palin's kids, 100% chance it's top news on every MSM newscast (except maybe FOX), front page of the NY Times, cover story on Time, Newsweek, ect. The story? Probably, yes. But re-read my post, I was talking specifically about the video. network news does not show video of people doing hard drugs - it just isn't done.
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) I havent been to a doctors appt in probably over 5 years. I am like my old man, unless my arm is chopped off or something of that matter I just wait it out. Not the smart thing to do ,I know. Typical ER person. I'm guessing you smoke as well?
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) HoRam. Seriously?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Bears pro-bowl QB's since 1950: 1985: Jim McMahon 1963: Bill Wade 1956: Ed Brown 1955: Ed Brown 1952: Johnny Lujack 1951: Johnny Lujack And McMahon wasn't even a great QB really. Great leader, OK QB, lousy arm, surrounded by incredibly talented receivers, RB's and OL. The Bears have not had a top tier QB in my lifetime as a fan. Despite what may be overpayment, I like this move, a LOT.
  11. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) Coming from a family of police officers, they all disagree with you, but whatever. They dislike Daley, they dislike Weis, they dislike the entire leadership team they both constructed. Police see Weis as Daley's scapegoat, but that's not to say they don't dislike Weis, too. And allow me to correct you, there isn't "some" Daley hate, there is "all the way" Daley hate on the police force. Well I certainly don't know the whole force, but the ones I have spoken with tend to rail on Weis, and I hear nothing about Daley. Could be because Weis is just a newer topic of discussion.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:54 AM) Joined Xsport fitness recently. What a zoo that place is. Is it ever not bursting at the seams? I go to the one you probably do (Logan), and the one in south loop (State Street). Both are crowded in the evenings, and on weekends its hit and miss. You want it empty, go in the early AM before work. But at least they are clean, and the lockerrooms aren't disgusting, which is the biggest reason I moved from Bally to XSport.
  13. Yeah, I'd say weakest as well, or maybe just above KC.
  14. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) I know from my standpoint, as a prospective police officer, I'm welcoming the Olympics to Chicago. I've heard two reliable sources suggest that Chicago will be offering exams for the first time in two years sometime around Fall. I'm sure it's Daley's way of assuring the committee members that his police department isn't in disarray despite internal problems involving lack of staffing, no contract, and poor morale under J-Fed. It's strange, though. I feel completely confident Chicago will host the 2016 Olympics. I'm sure the people behind this city will devote all the available resources (both officially and not) to securing the bid. Have you been using the IFPRA site yet? Great tool.
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) J-Fed is merely a scapegoat, it's Daley they hate, he's been sinking their moral slowly over the years, it's merely come to a tipping point. One of Daley's biggest uphill battles on the Olympic bid will be explaining his skyrocketing murder/crime rate -- and a police force with absolutely zero moral. Giving them their contract at the last second and hiring additional officers after years of under staffing and f***ing them over when it comes to contract negotiations won't be forgotten even after he gives in. The police know the game he plays, and he will never have them on his side again. You just aren't right on this. The addition of J-Fed was a huge blow, city cops hate the idea of Daley bringing in a Fed to run the department on multiple levels. And J-Fed has done some things to make that worse. I'm sure there is some Daley hate too, but its tempered, and not at nearly the level of disdain for Weis.
  16. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) I've always felt that Gload got screwed in '05. I also thought that he would have looked great on the '07 team leading off and playing LF. You know, instead of gonzalez. He's not really a leadoff guy, he doesn't draw walks (though he would have been better than Gonzalez because ANYONE would have been). He's a 2-hole or bottom of the order guy, who makes good contact, can hit to all fields but will pull when needed.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:34 AM) Does anyone know where to drop off burnt out CFL bulbs? Home Depot? Home Depot will take them, they have a bin by the Returns area (at least the one on Elston in Logan Square near you does).
  18. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) He used to single the s*** out of us. He sucks as a first baseman Gotta disagree with you here. Ross had far better range than most others at 1B, stretched better than most, made few errors (upper half FPct over the years among 1B), and could throw pretty well. He doesn't do the scoop as well as PK, but then neither do most. Not sure what else you want from a 1B on defense.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) I see Biden's daughter has been (most likely her) caught on film snorting cocaine. I'm glad for her sake the msm isn't reporting this, but you all know for a fact if this was Bristol Palin, all these stations would be playing it and in slow motion, and all that crap. The amount of bias (and hate for those who don't agree with them) coming from the media is pretty sickening. Regardless of what you may think of media bias, one thing I can guarantee they wouldn't do in either case, is show the video on MSM news networks or websites. No way that happens.
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) To be fair though, there are still plenty of good people and good priests in the catholic church. It needs some reforming, no doubt, but that is not outside the realm of possibility. I agree with BearSox. Yup, I said it.
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) Kenny will never admit it to the public, but they're rebuilding and dumping salary right now. Right or wrong, that's why we don't have Hudson or Taveras. The Sox will again have one of the largest payrolls in the game, and picked up some major talent in the offseason. Also, the Sox don't ever to full-on rebuilds - they do it bit by bit (for better or worse).
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) If you don't like an earmark in a bill, or hell, any part of a bill, you can bring a motion to have it struck from the bill either in committee or on the floor of whatever house is doing the voting. Fairly commonplace. Oh jeez, OK, that I knew. Except that isn't the slightest bit realistic, I am sure you realize. When there are hundreds of amendments/earmarks on a bill that you got last night, and you are in the minority, you have no real options. This COULD be so simple. Allow no amendments or earmarks on any bill, period. Use a menu money system to evenly allocate for local district stuff, vote on it like an omni budget and move on. This would be so much better in every way.
  23. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Just accept it people, he is a God among men. What happaned to cheering for the little guy? And for those that want to be back PODS?? Are you kidding, please. Even Brian is in love with the Deeeweeezy: "I hope no one gets offended, because it's not meant to be offensive, but I really do call him the black Ross Gload. He's the African-American Ross Gload, there you go. Ross Gload is so versatile and he's such a great hitter. But a guy like Dewayne Wise, you're almost in awe, wondering why this guy is not playing everyday somewhere. This guy was about to go play Independent ball and he's helping us win postseason games" Brian's postseason blog Except Ross has a track record of actually hitting in the majors. And the minors for that matter. Brian has always had a thing for Ross, he's discussed him like that before. But its interesting that he now focuses his man love on DeWayne.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) That's what I'm saying though. The bill is voted on. The earmarks aren't attached after all of the voting is complete. If people have problems with an earmark, they have the opportunity to challenge it and have a vote on that specific language. If the bill is voted on, then there's a vote on the bill including the earmarks. I just have difficulty seeing how Congress spending money on a specific program is any worse than the Executive Branch writing in amounts of money for specific programs and then having Congress pass the budget for that branch. The only question is who exactly is making the final decision. There's opportunity for corruption in both mechanisms if they aren't properly regulated. And frankly, the executive branch has more than enough power as it is. That's what I thought. You have to vote on the whole damn thing, and that is inherently bad on multiple levels, as I've detailed before. The bolded part though, I am not sure what you are referring to. Can you elaborate?
  25. I luve me some Ross Gload. I may be this site's second biggest Gloadite (other than the guy whose username is GLOAD IS GOD). His stint as a starter in KC wasn't what I thought he'd do. I think he just didn't get his chance until it was too late in his career. But, he's still a nice bench piece if you need a 1B/OF who can hit righties well (actually only slightly better than he hits lefties), PH for a decent average, and give you a little speed. Defense is a bit below average in the OF but not nearly as bad as was made out here, and he's plus at 1B. Also, fun fact - Ross Gload's career OPS with the bases loaded is 1.112, and is .820 w/ RISP. Good luck, Ross!
