QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) I skimmed it and what i read was she could barely hold a file at times and had to lean heavily on her staff, and this is a positive article that had those points in it even while praising her. So, in all reality it was prob a little worse than this article makes it and she probably should have stepped down, atleast temporarily. Not taking away that for being sick she did a very good job. She wasn't mentally ill, or incapacitated. She could think, and read, and vote and represent her voters' interests. And she chose to do so despite horrific physical obstacles. She deserves to be commended.

Its not dead arm, its way too early. He's probably just having a s***ty game, unless he's hurt. Richard was inconsistent last season too, from outing to outing. He's still adjusting. I hope he stays in the pen until he can consistently keep pitches down, and consistently deliver his breakers without hanging them. -

So, this is interesting to me. I watched the Cubs/Sox game a week or so ago, and noticed that the Cubs were just pounding the 3rd base line. Seemed like every hit went down that line. Doing it again today, from what I can tell. I wonder if that is intentional with Fields being a near-rookie over there, or if the Cubs are just pull happy, or what. NOT saying Crede would be getting them, at all. I'm just saying it seems like a habit of this Cubs team to hit there. Probably something worth remember for when we play them, positioning wise. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) BA has him rated as the best defensive infielder in the Sox system. That's why. OK, so that helps offset the offensive deficiencies. But it still doesn't make it up enough to justify that high ranking, IMO, even if he truly is the best defensive infielder in the system.

I don't want to confuse with the predictions topic, but, I thought a Poll would be good. Just wins predictions here.

I really don't get the level of Escobar love. I've seen his numbers, read some scouting report bits... I don't see much difference between him and Sergio Miranda, who we just traded for near nothing. In fact they are eerily similar in performance in their first years, and at almost the same age (Escobar is 1 year younger), except that Miranda had a much better batter's eye (see K/BB) and 50 more points of slugging (which I didn't think was possible). I think Escobar has value, but, he's not as good as he seems to be listed as, in my view. At least 10 other prospects in the system today I'd put ahead of him, maybe more. Otherwise I agree, good list, lots of good players to watch.

Makes more sense IMO anyway. He is seriously raw, and needs to learn how to hit without short fences.

I did this a month or two ago in another thread, but have some new thoughts... AL Central: SOX 90-72 CLE 88-74 KAN 81-81 MIN 80-82 DET 76-86 Sox get solid starting pitching (though not spectacular), even if Colon or Contreras are replaced by Marquez/Richard/Egbert/Cassel. Bullpen is very strong, though Linebrink will fall out of 8th slot and Thornton/Dotel set up Jenks. Offense is very good - Getz takes over leadoff early on and makes a ROY run, Konerko, AJ and Fields have big years, TCQ and Dye regress a bit, Thome is Thome. Defense is pretty bad but gets a bit better as Fields and Getz improve, and Anderson plays more in CF as the season goes on. Its enough to sneak past CLE. Cleveland gets very good starting pitching but has a crappy bullpen, good defense and surprising offense, but not enough to catch the Sox. Royals surprise with some of the young talent, and make noise early, before fading but still getting out of the basement. Minny is bitten by the injury bug and has nearly no offense, especially with Mauer hurting, their pitching is OK but not their usual standard, so they falter. Detroit continues to be the king of overpaid for results.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) Owens CF Getz 2B Quentin LF Dye RF Pierzynski C Alexei SS Kroeger 1B Fields 3B Richard P Lets see if Jerry Owens can put the final nail in the coffin with another poor performance today. Still waiting for the only true top of the lineup hitter on the roster to get a start in the leadoff spot, I probably shouldn't hold my breath. I don't think Ozzie wants Konerko to lead off though. Anyway, seriously, I am surprised to see Kroeger still in camp. And playing 1B instead of OF. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) Viva La Revolucion! Rep. Bachmann calls for a revolution to overthrow Obama's "Maxism". Wait, didnt she call out Obama for "anti-american" behavior? EDIT: so, she's calling for an "orderly revolution". Wasnt that what happend in November? We threw out a great majority of the GOP after they ran the country into the ground. Unfortunately the people of Minnesota weren't smart enough to throw Michele Bachmann out too. While Bachmann has showed multiple times that she is not very bright, and a little scary, I actually see no issue at all with her quotes in this case. She specifically is talking about an "orderly" revolution, which to me obviously means via the current process of elections.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) The reason they are "better" so far is that they don't have any of their own stuff to hide yet. Any administration can release stuff from their opposition, because they aren't going to look bad doing it. If they are already blocking requests for information on people in their own house, it isn't a good sign for how open they are going to be in the future. In that case, we'll see how things look in a few years. If they reverse the policy changes, then you will be right.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) NSS, with respect, no, the Obama administration has NOT made leaps and bounds about releasing information. They release what they WANT to release. I'm quite tired of the "Obama is so much better" when in reality, he's doing exactly the same things, just with a different political agenda. Sometimes he is. But he released a whole bunch of stuff, it was discussed here, and changed the FOIA rules to be enforced more in favor of requestors. I don't have the articles in front of me anymore. I think its interesting, the discussions about Obama, seem to have already run out to the extremes on both sides. Either he's a pariah who is ruining the country and doing worse than Bush was, or he's the man among men and he has saved us from Bush and the big bad economy. Neither are true. Obama has already done more positive things than Bush, but, Obama has also done some s***ty things (some of which Bush did, some of which are uniquely Obama). In any case, I happen to agree with the folks that are upset about this FOIA request being denied. It is a corrupt, protective move. BushCo's tactic was, instead of protecting certain pieces, would just put up a wall against almost all intrusion whatsoever. Clearly, some sunlight is better than none, so Obama is doing better, IMO. But you are right in that there are still things that either one, and for that matter most other politicians, will do everything in their power to keep secret, for selfish reasons.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 06:37 AM) I work about a mile north of O'Hare and saw some smoke over the airport when I left last night. I didn't see any fire, though. There was some smoke on Wednesday or Tuesday also, but I think that might have just been a burst tire. I believe there is some construction going on as well - may not be a fire at all. The airport is doing some, and one of the biz facilites on the north end of the airport is undergoing work. I saw nothing on any news outlet about a fire.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 03:18 AM) Been to: 1. front row for a Radiohead concert (by waiting around for 14 hours) 2. each state east of the Mississippi river. Maine is the best 3. an NFC championship game 4. Texas. For somebody not familiar with Texas... this was an adventure. 5. the Badlands Want to: 1. Mogadishu 2. Port Moresby 3. Osaka Bay in 1945 4. The Balkans 5. NORAD Frankly, there are so many places I want to go to that I haven't been yet. I'm taking the steps necessary (Japanese foriegn language minor for instance..gahhh) to change that, however. Your Want To list seems to have a theme (NORAD aside). Have you spent time in a 3rd world country before? Its quite an experience for an American, and I do recommend that EVERYONE in this country find a way to spend time in a place like that, some time in their lives.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 06:55 AM) It was most interesting that the most open administration in history used the same FOIA denial that they blasted Bush for hiding stuff with to protect the meeting minutes. The Obama administration has already made leaps and bounds past BushCo in terms of releasing information documents. BUT, in this case, this pisses me off, and its stinks of corruption. They'd better the heck reverse course on protecting Rahm this way, and soon. I agree completely that this is a B.S. move.

Anyone Still Waiting for Season Tickets to Arrive?
NorthSideSox72 replied to clyons's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) Back on February 13th, I bought and paid for a set of 4 lower box tickets on ebay that the Seller (who sells tickets for lots of teams and events and has positive ratings and feedback) claims that he has still not received from the Sox. I understand that tickets sometimes get shipped out in waves, but I know some people who got theirs back in early March. I sent the Seller a message the other day asking him to call the Sox and check with his rep. He emailed me right away saying he would do that, but I haven't heard from him since. I have four days left to file a dispute with ebay and will probably do that tomorrow, just to protect myself. I smell a rat. Anybody else still waiting on their season tix? I got mine a couple weeks ago. Sounds fishy to me. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) I would give Marquez back to the Yankees for Melky. I think Melky is overrated, but Marquez might be a mediocre long man some day. The big plus about getting Melky is Owens and Wise are probably both off the roster. Now if there was someone to take Lillibridge and Miller off as well. Nix (when healthy again) and Lucy. -
