QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) AJP in the #2 spot .278 .316 .389 .705 Not good. Hitting 6th .315 .351 .522 .872 Your numbers are wrong. He's hitting .292, .333 OBP, in the 2 slot. From ESPN: Batting #2 65 8 19 3 1 1 6 4 0 10 1 0 .292 .333 .415 .748 He's doing quite well in the 2-hole, better fit than just about anyone else on the team. highest AB/K number on the team outside Cabrera, 2nd highest average on the team, 3rd highest OBP, among starters. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) Cutter Dykstra - OF - Westlake HS goes to the Brewers from the Sox as compensation for the Linebrink signing. Lenny's kid. The other Dykstra that went earlier is not related. I can't believe Lenny named his son Cutter.

Anthony Carter (Crazy stats)
NorthSideSox72 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in FutureSox Board
Carter has been promoted to Winston-Salem, and makes his first start there tonight. If no one else wants to do an AAP for him, I will. -
Clayton having a nice season so far at B-Ham this year. ERA is 2.64, WHIP is 1.01, his K/BB rate is nearly 4:1.

Pawtucket @ Charlotte, 6:15pm CT, Lance Get-Estaban-Out-Of-My-Way Broadway (5-3, 2.95) starting Montgommery @ B-Ham, 7:05pm CT, Richard (5-6, 2.64 - that's one unlucky guy) starting for the Barons, whose Magic Number is 5 for the 1st half division crown Winston-Salem @ Myrtle Beach, 6:05pm CT, and check this out - Anothony Carter was promoted from Kanny, and gets his first start in High A tonight! West Virginia @ Kannapolis, in pre-game, Socolovich (0-2, 6.91 - he's not one of he "very good ones" I mentioned) starting

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) For any of you who care, he was released by the White Sox. He signed with the Reds organization and was assigned to Chattanooga of the Southern League. I'd bet this means Cook is headed to Charlotte in the next week or two (when B-Ham finishes their first half).

QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) actually I think ramirez would be a great number 2 hitter at this moment. He makes good contact, and protects the plate very well. He can bunt, and fouls off pitches adding to long counts. He'd be the only other guy I'd consider there, assuming O-Cab is leading off. If Swisher ever gets hitting again and leads off, O-Cab could hit #2. -

AJ as #2 hitter so far: .292 average, .333 OBP. Hitting for good contact (6.5 AB/K - only Cabrera has a better number among starters). Not many hitters on the team can top that line for a #2 hitter. Looks like Ozzie made a good move here. -
QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) quick question....are they only doing round 1 today and the rest tomorrow??? I believe today is Rounds 1 and 2 (including the sandwich picks between).

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) O's help us, they beat the Twins 3-2 Nice. If we can win tonight, that's a 2.5 game cushion going into the 4 game set with Minny. This week could be really critical to the season.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) With Smoak still on the board, I disapprove. I like Beckham, but he isn't that game-changing prospect we need, like Smoak is. Beckham is that scrappy type of player who will undoubtedly be a 2B in the future. While that's not bad, I expect better at 8. If Smoak was gone, fine, but Smoak should have been the pick. In the future, I see Beckham as a good fielding 2B who will pretty much be a Michael Young type hitter except with more pop and less average. Gordon Beckham actually had better offensive numbers in almost every category than Smoak did in 2008. Check it... Beckham: .397 BA, 24 HR, 65 RBI, 85 R, .781 SLG, .505 OBP Smoak: .383 BA, 23 HR, 72 RBI, 63 R, .757 SLG, .505 OBP And Beckham is a far better overall athlete, able to play multiple positions, probably. So tell me again how it is that Smoak is so much more game-changing than Beckham?

Cubs on the clock. Any guesses?

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) He sure carries himself well. Yeah he does (said in a southern accent, emphasizing the Yeah). That's good to see. I think sometimes we forget about player smarts, which I think have a big effect on players' success. Seems like a pretty quick guy.

Man does this guy have a lot of hair. Is there a forehead under there anywhere?
-
QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) Beckham's junior year numbers are .397-24-65 .781 SLG .505 OBP Sick.

Beckham AAP, anyone?
-
So, who wants Beckham as their AAP?

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) I hope we don't look back on the draft in the coming years and regret not taking Smoak or Crow.... We heard your "regret" post the first time. Seriously, you could have said that about ANY player they drafted.
-
Solid pick, I like it. This looks a lot better than some of the alternatives. The only other one that I think was a good choice was Smoak. I would have been happy with either one.

Alonso goes to Cincy!

One of the couple big weaknesses in the Chicago bid was cited as transit and transportation. This plays perfectly into Chicago's hands. They can go with that to Washington and get a metric f***-ton of money for transit, which the city needs anyway. Plus, if Obama is elected President... Chicago will get every dime it asks for. NOTE: Not trying to endorse a candidate here, just saying, if that happens to occur, it helps the city and the Olympic cause.
-
OK, so, 2 of these three will be available at the 8th slot, if not all three; Smoak, Wallace, G Beckham.
-
6th pick is Skipworth.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) OK, let me change that But I agree with you, we ALSO need to aggressively pursuit alternative energy. You can sell it to conservatives as a way to f*** over Chavez and the Arabs. Trying to ram it down people's throats with guilt won't work. Better than guilt or the f***-the-mid-east arguments, IMO, are the economic arguments. Not only would independence from foreign oil have hig positive effects on keeping inflation down, but it would spur all sorts of new technologies that can be sold all over the world. The environmental benefits, f***ing over some nast countries, etc., are just nice side effects.
