QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) Looks like our defense is going to give that run right back. Defense? Huh? -

Successful bunt, Gomez to third, 1 out. Mauer up. -

Masset balks on an attempted pick-off, Gomez to second. Looked like his left/lead knee bent a bit before he lifted out. -

Gomez reaches on a weak pop-up that fell in short LF. Good pitch, jammed him, he fisted it out there. -

O-Cab and Thome both hit the ball very hard. -

Swisher walks. Cabrera hits a hard line drive that Young caught in LF. Thome doubled to center, Swisher scores, then Thome out trying to make it a triple. Dye pops out to 2B. 1 run. Blackburn looking very hittable. -

Tough out for Cabrera there - he's finally starting to look like he's getting it at the plate. Hopefully he gets hot. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) I know I picked up an independent one in 2006. The only thing on it was a library or school tax proposition. There was also a Green Party ballot. Either way, I still don't see the problem. Pick up a Dem. card, a Rep. Card, or an Ind. Card. If you don't pick up a Dem. card, you don't get to choose the Dem. candidate. Same for the Rep. side. How does this disenfranchise anyone? I voted in the Feb primary in Illinois. I showed my ID (heh), and they said "Dem or Rep?" Those were the two options. They handed me the Dem ballot, and I voted. With the machine as its structured, it asks if you are registered Dem, GOP or Ind - that is the issue here, right? So if you are registered Ind, it doesn't allow you to vote in either primary. It should be asking which ballot you want, not what you are registered as.

Jerry Owens 2-for-2 including... wait for it... a 2-run homerun! Lucy 2-for-2 as well, including a bunt single. Whisler has calmed down since the first, hasn't given up anything since then.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) With the day off tomorrow, I don't get why AJ isn't playing. Considering our offensive struggles and PK being out, you need everyone you can get in the lineup. day game after night game, that's prototypically when you sit your starting catcher. But in this case, with the day off after, plus AJ knowing how to play in that stadium, and with Konerko out... I agree, unconventional thinking was needed here. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Lexi would be the best guy to send down, but my guess is Ozzie sends down Brian as his moves are usually a position for a position move. Lexi will then go down when Richar comes off the DL. The way Ozzie has been using Lexi most of the time, Owens for him IS a position for position move. I think that's what will happen. Look at the fact that BA has been playing a bunch lately. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) Owens will be coming up soon is my feeling. Heh. He just hit a HR. He's hitting well over .300 as well. You think they will send down Lexi? -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 10:37 AM) I don't see the problem. It's a primary, not a general election. If you don't pick up a Dem. ticket, why should you be voting on the Dem. candidate for President? It works that way in Illinois. No it doesn't. In illinois for the primary, you get one or the other - a Dem slate or a GOP slate.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) I would rather have Lucy up and not hitting than Hall up and not hitting. At least Lucy can throw a runner out and play good D behind the plate. Tangentially... Lucy is 2-for-2 so far today in Charlotte, including a bunt single. When was the last time we saw a Sox hitter get one of those? -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) West Virginia Secretary of State Disenfranchising Thousands of Obama Voters? Well forget about Obama for the moment... that glitch will confuse and disenfranchise people who aren't affiliated with a party, and that's a load of crap.

So the CEO of Shell did a little Q&A with CNN. Most of it is trash, but there are a few good points. And here is one that caught my eye... the CEO of Shell Oil acknowledged that within the next decade, the easy-to-extract oil supply worldwide will probably peak and start to dwindle. Put that in perspective when thinking of oil prices... we are now reaching a point where its starting to get harder and harder to even find viable oil to use. For that dynamic, forget about refining capacity or anything else - we are dealing with the simple reality that oil is a finite resource. Oil prices may drop somewhat over that period, at times, maybe to $60 or $70 a barrell. But they won't stay there. The age of cheap oil is gone forever. 10 years is not a long time. We need alternatives, and fast. Partial transcript.

QUOTE (Mplssoxfan @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) Was at the game last night (Doh!), will be there today. Go Sox! If you're watching, I'll be the fat guy behind the Sox dugout with a black jersey. During last night's game, they repeatedly showed a guy in a bright orange Sox jersey. It was like a hunting outfit but with Sox stripes and logos. Was that you? -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) So if Konerko is out for today who is in CF? My bet Ramirez and he losses at lest two balls in the roof. The two day vacation should be in effect for a couple of guys. If Konerko was not out I'd have liked to see Swisher get the day off and put Quintin at the #1 or #2 spot. He really needs to be higher in the order and Swisher needs a day off or something. According to the Trib, its Anderson. -
Charlotte game already in warm-ups, here is the live box.

Norfolk (11-13) @ Charlotte (11-12), 10:15am CDT (early!), the so-far dominant Wes Whisler (4-0, 0.83) going for the Knights Mobile (12-13) @ B-Ham (14-11), 7:05pm CDT, Richard (2-3, 3.00) starts for the Barons Winston-Salem (9-12) @ Potomac (16-7), 6:05pm CDT, the venerable John Ely (0-2, 2.88) gets the nod for Da Hogs Kanny (11-13) @ Lakewood (12-13), 5:35pm CDT, Jones (0-1, 6.14) starting for the Intimidators

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) In Game Two... GET THIS... Three Warthog pitchers combined on a NO-HITTER and the Warthogs still lost 3-0. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wswafa_potafa_2 They actually lost 3-2, but still, that is something you don't see every day!!! Zaleski with the no-hit start (Arlington Heights native). Miranda went 2-3, with both the team's RBI's. Nice to see him have a good game offensively - he's starting off pretty cold.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) It's the equivalent of putting a band-aid over your chest when you're having a heart attack, exactly. Ad campaigns like that are pretty effective too, because most people don't realize it's just a band-aid, and it's not going to help anything, so you can effectively portray someone as favoring oil companies over the people and they usually take it at face value just because they need something to be mad at. Clinton's sweet spot is uneducated white folks, so, I guess she's just playing to that group.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) Huh? What happened to Konerko? Nothing serious. Got jammed on a pitch and hurt his hand, but it sounds like something very minor.
-
The Trib article (I have the hard copy, no link) says that OC WAS going to get a day off, until PK got hurt, so now he will play. Masset did well in his one spot start last year. Hopefully he can do well with it today, because the offense is overall pretty cold right now.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 07:18 AM) The same people that are screaming about this scream about the electoral college as well but then see the "superdelegates" in the Dem primary as ok - that's where I see some hypocrisy. I think you are mixing three different groups there. For example, I am OK with voter ID laws (with provision for free ID), and am not screaming about this. But I do disagree with the usefulness of the electoral college at this point. And I am not OK with the superdelegates either.
