Nice little flipper by De Aza. Looking decent in the early going -

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) According to the Radar I don't see it happening as it appears this weather system is stuck over the city, but I'm no weatherman. Probably means it will start right on time in fact. Just clouds, no precipitation yet or likely in the coming hours (according to weather.com, anyway) -
If it works, I'll give RV his props. If not, I think we can call this an early mistake and legitimately count it against him. No problem with anything else he's done so far.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) I'd have gone Fukudome. I know the whole "Mr. April" thing, but I think I might've gone Lillibridge. I guess you can't go wrong, though, since you can't really go right.
-
WTF is going on? Does he think leadoff will help Beckham's approach somehow or something, or is this just due to a complete lack of leadoff candidates when De Aza's out?
-
Early April has been fun to watch, keep it up and prove me wrong on my 70-something win prediction!

QUOTE (balfanman @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 08:05 AM) But isn't the "one too many fastballs" issue more on Pierzynski than Santiago? A.J. is the veteran signal caller here. Totally on AJ, though I'm not necessarily against that philosophy. With a 3-run lead, you want as little trickery as possible unless you start getting into trouble. Probably should have called for the screwball on that pitch, but I understand trying to get the out with the fastball when you've got the max lead in a save situation.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) Where was it not popular? I thought most people on this board were upset that he was put in the bullpen in the first place. Probably amongst the baseball prognosticators. Some of them (see: Law) thought he was destined for the bullpen, so I'm sure they also thought it was a bad idea to throw him in the rotation. I, like Harry, don't think they're referring to the fan base. Probably the talking heads...well, more like tweeting feeds these days.

Hector Santiago ... Earliest save in Sox history

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) How can you not love a guy that throws a SCREWBALL, for God's sake. Awesome. Hell, I even loved Shingo for a while! Weird pitchers are awesome -
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 11:30 PM) Santos - 2 blown saves in 2 chances Quentin - injured and out for surgery Ozzie - Idiot mouth. Fanbase calling for his firing already 4/162 = ~2%

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) I'd have no problem putting Gordon there, but if his original thought was to go with Morel, I think he has to give him a better chance than 2 games, as NSS mentioned. Agreed. Too much movement and nobody will show you anything -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) Series by series, road trip / home stand at a time. Went 1-2 vs TEX, about what was expected. If they can take 2 of 3 in CLE and come home 3-3, I'd be pretty happy. Pitching matchups in the first two games look good for the Sox. People are deciding it was time to dump him from there after 2 games, really? One game: it was Lillibridge there Saturday and Beckham yesterday -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Morel back to the two hole, really? I get the sense that he's gonna rotate that spot till someone shows him something. Thusfar, next to no production out of that spot in the lineup -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 11:52 PM) The Sox had nine homegrown players on their opening day roster, tying them for fifth in the American League. The Twins had 14, followed by the Angels with 12 and the Royals and Rays with 11 apiece. chicagotribune.com/sports QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 8, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) Ex-Sox pitcher Lucas Harrell had a great game Sunday vs Rockettes. 7 innings, 3 hits, no runs. Impossible! We have the worst farm system in the history of the game, and have for the past 5 years. No talent whatsoever could have come from our awful, awful, terrible no good rotten system since BP doesn't like it. /green

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 11:46 PM) So it's really intriguing watching a game with a new manager, as it's so hard to figure out what he's going to do. So far, Ventura definitely seems like he doesn't care about lefty/righty match-ups all that much. We've yet to see any bunt attempts as well. I disagreed with leaving Thornton in to face Napoli, but Ventura seems to be asking players to prove their ability to him and not relying on previous season stats. I said this in the game thread, but I loved how he pitched out with 2 outs and 2 strikes. It didn't work, but we'll get a handful of easy outs this year doing that. Napoli was so amped up that AB, there was no way he was doing anything with that ball. I'm surprised he made contact with his out of control swing. He looked like the big crazy guy from Rookie of the Year (am I allowed to cite that movie here?). Of course, that's through my prescription hindsight glasses. I'm not sure I would have left Thornton in to face Napoli either, but only because he looked a little erratic, not because Matt is usually a concern against righties.

Danks looks good this inning. Too bad it's been extended by a pass ball (I don't know how they actually scored it) -

QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 6, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) Yeah I have a feeling thatll be a trend with Gordon Striking out looking on pitches well off the plate? Okay. I agree, he still doesn't have a batter's eye and likely won't. Also, STFU Hawk.......grumble...
