  1. Danks has been missing his spots up an awful lot, until those last two pitches which were spot-on. Hopefully he's finding it
  2. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 6, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) Pop out to third and every infielder will have a pop up. 3 infield pop ups, 2 K's and a caught stealing.... don't forget the hit and the walk, though
  3. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 6, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) Nice throw to home... Not good, but he was never getting Kinsler there anyway
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) No relation to Jose Can You See (Offerman)? That's the dude from THE OFFICE, right? At first, I thought it (Craig Robinson) was going to be Michelle Obama's brother who coaches BB at Oregon State, I think. Craig Robinson is from The Office (Darryl). Offerman is from Parks and Recreation (Ron Effing Swanson). Similar shows, stylistically.
  5. BAH! Stupid student set up tutoring for this afternoon! I will only catch half the game... Also, looking at the image of our lineup sans Texas seemed nice. Then flavum posted the Texas lineup. Now it seems significantly less nice.
  6. Great to see this thread! Real baseball coming up! This was a pretty decent spring training (at least, it made me feel a little better about our system as a whole) but now it's time for the real deal.

    Morel

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 11:39 PM) Hardly. Beckham had an OPS over .800 his rookie year. Where as Morel had a lower OPS than Dunn for most of last year. Unless he starts to be more selective (like we saw last September) it's hard for me to imagine him ever being better than a replacement level offensive player. Don't let the empty batting average fool you, Morel is an awful offensive player. That is a very, very premature declaration. But welcome to SoxTalk!
  8. There is a vast amount of irony in writing a piece about how Guillen wants to stop talking about the past, then filling it exclusively with angry new quotes from Guillen about the past.
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-213929721.html Pretty sad how far behind we are on something like this from Minn. Meh, I love The Coen Brothers as much as -- or more than -- the next guy, but I wouldn't say the Sox commercial is "behind" the Minny commercial at all, just a very different approach, and perhaps more in line with their "Appreciate the Game" theme. Whether that theme is misguided or not is another issue, but the commercial is effective in its own right.
  10. Not a bad way to end it. Everyone is performing decently right now except the minor leaguers, i.e. Stults. This spring training has made me feel like we have a number of underrated players in the minors, too. No superstars waiting to explode onto the scene, but not the barren wasteland usually portrayed. Also, as I said in another thread, decent (if meaningless) start to Robin's career.
  11. Only one of those names is a future HOFer, and I really think that around the country he's the only name most people would be able to associate with the Sox. Paulie has never gotten as much national attention as he deserved.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 10:07 AM) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...domes-gift.html I actually liked that fluff piece, and usually I don't. Good to know Fukudome has a friend in the clubhouse
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) Mines been like that all offseason. Not sure why. Mine does it on my Mac but not my girlfriend's PC. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but that's the most obvious correlation for us.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) I agree, it's so fun to listen to him butcher names and feel the need to tell you what you just saw...every time. And claim to have passed calculus...liar!
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) Fire up the plane, boys. Last Cactus League game. 2:05pm on whitesox.com (No Melton) De Aza, Lillibridge, Rios, Ramirez, Pierzynski, Morel, Flowers, Viciedo, Beckham (Floyd) Then what's the point??
  16. Ventura appears to have run a fine Spring Training. Clearly not the toughest test in the world, but there are a lot of players to juggle and the energy level appears to have been appropriate. No significant injuries and most players have at least shown flashes of what we expect out of them. So far, so good on Ventura, for what it's worth (not very much).
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) I think this is noteworthy/interesting/somewhat disturbing... There are no African-American players on the Sox 25-man roster, and this will be the first time there isn't an African-American in the opening day starting lineup since 1955. Yeah, African American representation in the Major Leagues has fallen ~10% in the last couple of decades. I believe, if the Cubs trade Marlon Byrd, there won't be any African American players in the entire city of Chicago. Now THAT'S crazy. Baseball is trying, with that RBI program and whatnot, but I just don't think a love of baseball is being passed down generationally (regardless of race). It's all about the NFL right now.
  18. I like him because his name is my name, too. I also like Joe Nathan for similar reasons, now that he's departed the division. /aside
  19. Whoever these KC announcers are are obnoxious as crap. Like, Hawk's overenthusiasm without the "ohhhh, grandpa" excuse.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) I hope Viciedo is more fun to watch than frsutrating. Not too encouraged by his spring. He was practically outplayed by Jordan Danks. Meh. I am not remotely worried about Viciedo's long-term future. He will definitely be a major-league hitter, but the question is whether he's merely above-average or Vlad Guerrero in the end. Either way, we shouldn't judge based on spring training. He's just turned 23 so have a boatload of patience.
  21. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 09:59 PM) I think it would be fun if Lillibridge could play all nine positions in a game. Only if the Sox were out of contention and the game didn't mean anything. What do you suspect his ERA would be? Or do you think we should adopt the Coach Pitch approach and have him stand next to the pitcher?
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) @SouthSideLarry notes eight of nine players in today's lineup are products of White Sox scouting/player development, and Sale's starting. Will decide whether to celebrate or cry about this tweet in a few months
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 01:24 AM) I thought Cowley and Peavy were feuding not so long ago about the internecine warfare in the clubhouse the last 4-6 weeks of the season, and Cowley claiming that Ozzie said Peavy basically quit on him (conveniently omitting the fact that Ozzie quit on the White Sox franchise, its fans and Reinsdorf). There's absolutely ZERO way in h e double hockey sticks that Cowley got any of these quotes from Peavy recently. It's like one of those doctored political ads where they take single words or phrases from past speeches and quotes and change it into something altogether different for dramatic effect. Ridiculous. Pretty much!
