Man, Beckham looked like he was being himself on that swing

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 1, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Sale through 45 pitches, opponents hitting .158 45 and up, .273 Sounds like Peavy last year. Definitely the concern about both stamina and being exposed too many times to the same hitters in a game. There are 180 qualified hitters in MLB for OPS right now. Ryan Roberts is 180th and last at 482. Alexei Ramirez is barely in front of him at 178. Beckham and Morel aren't even within hailing distance of Roberts unless they both hit for the cycle or something totally cataclysmic like that occurs. That's still a fairly respectable number

QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Still can't get anything going from the #2 spot Does it make sense to move the entire lineup down a spot? Bat Dunn 2nd, Paulie 3rd, AJ 4th, Rios 5th, etc.? Is it better to do that than to plug in automatic outs/DP machines into the 2-hole just because of common wisdom? Better to have Dunn up with no outs and De Aza on than Dunn up with 1 or 2 outs because our "2-hole" guy is terrible.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2012 -> 07:19 PM) He probably has to do something, maybe go for some training or something, but he's very lucky. I guess this means all racists and sexists working at the ST can probably not worry about losing their job if they slip and say something at work, or if they just get pissed off and start popping off. If the ST fired them for the same thing they let Cowley get away with, they most likely will be required to pay their fired employees in full, and maybe even more. Behavior like Cowley's is absolutely, 100% a violation of his employment contract, and cause for termination without remuneration. They just hold the mistaken belief that the "buzz" he creates is, on the whole, good for them. "Any publicity is good publicity" is a stupid oversimplification, and eventually he will implode, further making CST look like jackasses for not suspending him in the first place. -

Woah, go out of town for a weekend and come back to this! I had to do a lot of digging to find the original story, but it's not at all surprising. The 19 year old male has always been his persona for some reason. I hope it's not genuine -- you'd think having a job at a newspaper would force him to grow up a little bit, or at least stumble upon some professionalism -- but I see no evidence to that effect. So he HASN'T been suspended? That's stupid. Those were some very clearly offensive statements made using the CST moniker. There really is no debate there. I don't care if you were personally offended or not, that sort of commentary was simply inappropriate by any standard. Oh well, it's only a matter of time before his besmirched reputation catches up with him and costs him his job permanently. On the whole, Chicago won't put up with his bulls*** long enough for his antics to generate a net gain for the CST. His days are numbered. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 11:04 AM) FWIW, I saw a lot of Buehrle in Milone last night. Worked all corners of the plate, up and down, and wasn't really predictable in which pitch he would throw in a certain situation. Topped out around 88/89mph and had a great change and a serviceable curve. He is a guy who is going to give us fits for a long time. Agree wholeheartedly. Usually, losing to another rookie soft-tossing lefty would bother the hell out of me, but Milone was pretty masterful last night. I don't think any club would have gotten much on him last night.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:46 PM) It's Paulie or nothing tonight. Bad at bat Rios. Meh, he's been throwing first pitch strike all night and Rios didn't miss that by a whole lot. This is one of those soft-tossing lefties that I don't think has been making us look stupid as they often do, I think he's just throwing exceptionally well. -
How will all these new tv rights deals affect the Sox?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) I found it. This year, our WCIU games are up by 7 (25 appearances). We've also lost 2 WGN games, and 11 CSN, our biggest moneymakers. So, theoretically: 25 WCIU X $200K=$5,000,000 30 WGN X $350K=$10,500,000 101 CSN X $450K=$45,400,00 TOTAL=$60,900,000 PLUS the shared pool money from FOX/ESPN/TBS/TNT But we have lost about $4-4.5 million compared to previous years with more WCIU and fewer CSN games as well. Or one Mark Teahen/Jason Frasor. I object to the Teahen being used as a unit of currency on the grounds that it makes me really sad -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Want some proof that Manto is getting through to him? He had 10 hits to right field all of last year. This year, he already has 6 hits to right field. Between Rios and Konerko, you have two players who are just killing other teams by not overswinging and taking what the pitcher gives them. Interesting that you bring up both of those players...it seems to me that Rios' approach lately has resembled Konerko's, and I wonder if Konerko's "leadership-by-example" style is finally rubbing off on Rios. Definitely could be Manto, too, since EVERYONE seems to be willing to use the whole field. Either way, I just hope he sustains his approach, and once people start pitching him inside, that he's not afraid to turn on one occasionally (and doesn't fall back in love with pulling the ball, either. Totally a danger).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) A 500ish season is silly? I sure don't think so. Once I see them go through a period of legitimate difficulty a little later in the season, I may readjust my prediction upwards, but as things stand, we have an unsustainable BABIP-against that is the second lowest in baseball. Our xFIP is also incredibly good, though, so perhaps it won't be a huge regression. Either way, there will be stretches when our pitchers are not unhittable and filthy, and whether or not our offense can make up the gap will determine whether or not we can expect a truly successful season. Like 2k5 said, though, it's silly to abandon your predictions 16 games in. If you thought the Sox were a .500 or below team in February, that's still an entirely possible outcome. That's not to say I'm not enjoying the season so far...they've looked pretty awesome to start off the year. But I won't be at all surprised if they go 6-10 over the next 16. They're totally capable of that, too.

Unless we can sign him to a VERY team-friendly contract, I don't want to bet octuple-digits on Peavy's continued health. Imagine him signing for another $20-30M and being injured again. There would be a lot of fury around here. Doesn't matter how good he is this year, he's one somewhat-likely injury away from the same thing we've been dealing with the last few years.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 12:38 AM) 10-6 after 16. Not bad, not bad at all. And in extremely competitive fashion, as has been noted before. They haven't been completely out of a single game yet.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) I love moving Alexei into the two-hole, but why do we have Lillibridge leading off against a RHP? I think it's clear as day that Robin uses very little stats in decision-making. Assuming De Aza needed a day off for whatever reason, who would you prefer lead off? Just playing devil's advocate. -
Since Tiger Blood came up organically, I vote for that one. Can't force nicknames.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) That was awesome. I was scared to post in the game thread. Ryan's a b**** for trying to draw a walk in that situation. Swing the bat, dickhead. Totally disagree with this, for two reasons. For one, if you wanna make history, you have to earn every out. Can't have any of that Favre/Strahan B.S. going on. But also, it was a 4-run game. It's not likely that they'd catch up, but possible, and the best way to win is to get on base. No reason to quit just because the opposing pitcher is on the verge of history. Again, it serves no one to fold up shop. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 11:32 PM) Great, great post. Glad to see Ozzie and Walker both doing well. There are, like, two and a half things that a manager is definitely and solely responsible for. One of them is maintaining buy-in from the team. If the team quits, that is on the manager, 100% and there are no two ways about it. It's his job to make sure they don't quit, and regardless of which one quit first (the team or Ozzie), it's his failure.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 11:29 PM) Like him or not, Cowley is the only one in Chicago sports media to write this truth: @cst_Cowley Biggest load of crap in this city. Cub fan is just as obsessed with the Sox, but better at pretending he's not. Not sure I follow. Context? Just as obsessed with Sox as a Sox fan is, or just as obsessed with the Sox as a Sox fan is with the Cubs? -
