  1. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) In a sick way, it's great to see Ozzie get embarrassed by Frank Thomas like he did. Ozzie should have just STFU, and focused on screwing this team up on a day-to-day basis. Joe Crede and Jim Thome: thanks for showing up down the stretch this season. I think that is well said. Unlike Frank Thomas, who has been huge when it was most important, our hitters were not. I can give Crede some slack because he was big during the stretch last year. Jim Thome on the other hand is the best Spring Training hitter this club has. Forget the stats, the story is who can be CLUTCH.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Thomas couldn't be counted on to be healthy after the last few yrs. Beane may look brilliant as every other GM took a pass on Frank. KW is as dumb as every other GM in baseball. But Frank's 500k base salary was given for a reason. KW sticks with Frank, he gets hurt, and everyone would say the sox were cheap. Hindsight is 20/20. Thomas isn't the reason the sox are in the situation they are in That is right, we needed someone who's health was unquestionable. That is why we got Jim Thome.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Thome over Thomas was a mistake? ARE YOU PEOPLE F***ING KIDDING ME The Sox major weakness last year were righties with good breaking stuff. To counter that, they brought in a left-handed power bat to stick in the middle of the order. So I ask you...since when does Thomas hit from the left-side of the plate? My mistake, I didn't realize that we had such a big problem last year. Thanks goodness we fixed it. I didn't know Frank can't hit against righties. Someone should tell Javier Vasquez too.
  5. This team is done. We have made every B-level pitcher look like Walter Johnson. AND, we made truly awful pitchers (Carlos Silve and this year's Barry Zito) beat us. This team has no balls. Brandon McCarthy...sucks. Boone Logan...REALLY sucks Jim Thome (in the 3nd half)...sucks Rpn Machowial (with the bases loaded)...sucks Sandy Alomar...sucks The manager that keeps running them out there...sucks One more thing, the Jermaine Dye for MVP thing was over about 10 minutes after it started.
  6. Maybe we can trade Thome for Frank Thomas. I am sure we would have to pick up some of the salary, but it would be worth it. Oh that's right, Thomas is a cancer in the clubhouse. I could see it in the lack of A's chemistry. Kenny, are you man enough to admit your mistake yet?
  7. What the heck is a "sports hernia?" I had never heard that term. Here is a link that will teach you all about the inguinal hernia: (click on the "Insturctions" button, then "Start The Module") Inguinal hernia interactive tutorial It took me about 8 weeks to recover from that surgery.
  8. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) I will be attending the following games this year: I am VERY happy with the way the draft turned out for me! HURRY UP, APRIL 4TH!!!! Hey, I recognize those dates, we sat next to each other. It was nice to meet you today. I was pleased with my picks too, although Critic swiped that 8/12 Detroit games just before it came to me. Here are my picks (in order selected) for those that care: 5/21 vs Cubs 4/5 vs Cleveland (Opening Series) 7/26 vs Minnesota 5/6 vs KC 5/7 vs KC 8/17 vs KC 8/27 vs Minnesota 6/4 vs Texas Because I live in Appleton, WI I favor day and weekend games. Luckily most of our syndicate seemed to shy away from the day games.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) How much did you pay for the "chance"..? By "chance" I mean opportunity. For 8 bucks (consider it an admin fee for the guy doing all of the coordinating), plus $270 for my share of the tickets, I get to share a package with 9 others. 8 games is about right for me since I am driving down from NE Wisconsin. Everybody got that?
  10. I just bought a share of season tickets (8 games) on eBay. It really isn't an auction, just a chance to share a package with a group of folks. The draft will be in Elmhurst. Here is the link
  11. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) You sound like this guys PR agent. He was the happiest man in the ballpark? Maybe the richest--wait, check that--probably not. The rich aren't heroes. I'm glad he bought the naming rights so we could afford some stadium upgrades, but I'm not going to deify the man. I never made this guy out to be a hero. Despite his money, he is very human. My point is that this guy is one of us (except he has better tickets). I wanted to let everyone know that at least one suite was filled with true Sox fans that bleed black and white. Not bandwagon jumping celebs.
  12. Warning: there is a lot of name-dropping in this post. I had the honor of being a guest in one of the US Cellular luxury suites. This was Jack Rooney's box. He is the president of US Cellular. Jack is an Irish south-sider. A life-long sox fan and the most down to earth executive you can imagine. He was not there to hob-nob or build employee morale. He was there to cheer on his beloved Sox. I don't think you could have found a happier person in the stadium when the game ended. Jack spoke about the naming rights deal. He had to take himself out of the discussions because he was too emotionally invested. As you can imagine he is ecstatic with the result and proud of the resulting improvements to the stadium. He is excitied about the green seats. He also spoke how it was difficult to be involed with removing the Comiskey name from the Park. Sox fans should be happy to have US Cellular as our corporate partner. Earlier in the day Jack watched his Fighting Irish play well (he had to leave before the game ended). So this was a good day for him. We noticed the suite next to us was not nearly as excitied as everyone else. Then someone pointed out that Nolan Ryan was in there. I guess they were rooting for the wrong team. I looked at Ryan when Jenks hit 100, he was very stoic. Two other celebrity sightings: I passed the 59 Sox in the hallway and rode in the elevator with Jesse Jackson. Back to the TV tonight.
  13. After striking out like most folks, I received a call from my account representative at US Cellular. They have a ticket for me in their luxury box. There is a God.
  14. Now that we have been shut out on the ticket lottery where do we go to watch the game?
  15. I would do the blonde with the "Big Daddy Vladdy" sign.
  16. I think it depends on the situation. Given a lead he seems to like the opportunity to swing for the fences. That seems to be what he was doing in the 8th.
  17. We have won 11 out of our last 12. 5 more wins in 2005 and I can die happy.
