Relevant for the trade market for Abreu Jerry Crasnick‏Verified account @jcrasnick 4h4 hours ago Of the 117 #MLB players who hit 20-plus HRs this season, 16 are free agents. Could the surplus of power hitters change how teams approach the offseason? http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2161090...gers-come-cheap eetings.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) If he was willing to sign a 4/$80 extension and he was moved to the Red Sox, why wouldn't they offer him such an extension to keep him off the market? the logic for other teams is the same, if they think he's a good player and will remain so until he's 35 then it makes good sense for them to lock him up rather than playing the 2019 free agent market for Smoak and Goldschmidt...and their teams might well lock those guys up too. He can want to sign that deal with the White Sox, but not for the Red.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) Edwin Encarnacion just signed a 3/$60M deal as a free agent. Yes he's older, but they have been very comparable players. I have no doubt Abreu would get another year or two as a free agent, but if he's happy here then maybe he'll give us a bit of a discount on the years. I think the fact he'll likely need to move to DH down the road will limit his AAV to about $20M per. Anyways, we basically did something similar with Pauline IIRC and he ended up deciding to stay here. Some of these guys do value stability/familiarity and the fact we should (hopefully) be damn good is another incentive. I just don't see Jose a break the bank type but I could be wrong. Good comp! I keep thinking that something between 4/65 to 4/70 might get it done considering he does still have one lesser arb year to factor in.

I'll bet you are...

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) I'd give Abreu something like 4/$80M with a 5th year team option and call it a day. He can anchor the middle of the lineup for a big chunk of our window, serve as mentor for Moncada, Robert, & other young LatAm players, improve our sales pitch to free agents next offseason, & further establish our status as the team to sign with for future Cuban amateurs (which becomes important with capped spending). All those factors combined make him worth more to us than other teams IMO. This would be my first preference unless a deal came along that you absolutely could not pass up headlined by a top 10 type of guy.

Give yourself a second thought before saying that in public.

QUOTE (FT35 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 09:56 AM) It's got to be a brain thing more than anything. Left/Right dominance starts there. I just don't think most people have proper (natural) development in that area of their brain. Now if you want to make a lot of money, figure out what needs to be done from a surgical standpoint and "pitch" the idea at a medical conference. While they're in there intentionally tearing/repairing every HS freshman's Tommy John parts so they "heal stronger", they can make a quick switch in the head so they can all wake up super human. That makes sense to me.

Evidently some people feel their dicks need to be seen and not heard.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) The White Sox got a top 50 prospect at the time out of Yency Almonte. They'll never get that lucky again. Eh. As long as Don Cooper is our PC, I would take that bet.

QUOTE (FT35 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) Yes! Seems like the value is HUGE. However...have you tried to throw with your off hand? When I try, I look a little like Chuck Knoblauch in his "lost" days. I'm lucky if my arm moves forward--and who knows what's going on with my legs...bunch of jerky circular motions that usually end with a trip to the chiropractor. Apparently it's difficult to achieve for most. I tried for a whole summer in my teen years to do it. Could never get the fluid mechanics down as I did from my natural side. I was terrible.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) Maybe I'm slow, but why would he remove the Sox? I no doubt believe it was intentional, just trying to understand the likely reasoning for it. Most likely... It was wrong.

Verified truth.

That is the truth.

Really fake news.

Pretty sure you are correct.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) 2019 was always a best case scenario, and I think fans are ready to accept that 2018 and 2019 are rebuilding years...with the focus being on 2020 onwards. It would not be impossible to be a significantly improved team by 2019 if our young talent steps up though. JBJ would be ours through 2020, and people are saying that he wouldn't be a part of our next good team.
