Soriano is probably the most overrated player in baseball. He has been the worst defensive second baseman in baseball over the past three seasons. He also has never heard of the term OBP. He would make a good #5 hitter if he agreed to play LF, but he won't. Also, keep in mind that he's only under contract for 2006 at $10 million. He is going to get overpaid by some team next offseason. I'd rather have Iguchi and his dirt-cheap contract for the next two seasons ($2.4 million in 2006, $3.25 million team option for 2007).

It would be an awful deal for the Nationals. Even though Soriano is only under contract for one season at $10 million and has already stated that he wants to sign back with an A.L. team next offseason, both Williamson and Hairston are only under 1-year contracts as well. Williamson still has to show that he is fully recovered from his surgery and that he can stay healthy like you said. Hairston is a mediocre offensive second baseman and his production would be even more pathetic in the outfield. I do disagree with you about Soriano hitting 40 homers at Wrigley though. He has only hit 64 homers in his past two seasons at Ameriquest Field, a much better hitter's park than Wrigley. The Cubs would probably have to give up Murton if they wanted Soriano.

Well, I just read the excerpt again and it never said that Redding is starting. Maybe it just means that McCarthy will start the game and Redding will pitch in relief. Not sure though.

Where did anyone say that being 32 years of age or older is "too old to play"? Have you ever heard of a player "being past his prime"? It doesn't mean that he can't be productive, it just means that he won't be as good as he was in his younger days.

I never said that 32 years of age is old geezer territory for a baseball player. But it is definately older. 32 is usually getting past the average player's prime. The Sox gave Konerko a 5-year contract because they had to. That was the going rate to re-sign him. I'm sure that the Sox would rather have signed Konerko to a 3-year deal.

Did you read the first post of this thread? He said to factor in age. I guarantee you that no GM in baseball would take 32 year old Ichiro over 22 year old Miguel Cabrera. By the way, Jeter is 31 and Ortiz, Konerko, Vlad, and A-Rod are all 30.

You would be wrong. It's not really old but it's definately "older." I believe 27-29 are usually a player's prime years.

On The Score, George Offman said that Javier Lopez may be the leading candidate for the job. Offman compared Lopez's delivery to Kelly Wunsch. He also said that Kenny could still swing a trade for another reliever but most teams aren't looking to move pitching at this point in Spring Training.

Yep, and that's pretty old for a baseball player. Also, Ichiro only wants to play RF. I would only consider choosing him if he would play CF for us. There are much better players to choose than Ichiro, especially when you factor in age.

You mean traded for Thome. But yeah, I just changed my answer from Pujols to A-Rod. We are set at 1B and DH but replacing Crede with A-Rod would add a TON of offense without losing anything on defense. If salary matters, I would take Miguel Cabrera at 3rd base.

Does the current roster matter or not? Because I would say we could use more offense than pitching.
