Iguchi had a career year. Seriously though, Konerko had his best season ever but he should maintain that kind of performance. Dye also had his best season in years but staying healthy and hitting at the Cell should keep his numbers up. The worry is our bullpen. Cotts, Politte, and Hermanson all had massive career years. Eduardo Perez should be a massive improvement at first base against lefties over Jose Hernandez. But he's really the only improvement that the Indians made unless those washed-up guys like Graves, Karsay, and Hollandsworth have good seasons for them.

Because Neyer is a stathead and he argued all last season that the White Sox weren't good enough to win the World Series. Now he looks like an idiot because his stats failed him.

Kevin Millwood --> Paul Byrd = DOWNGRADE (Byrd is a good pitcher but he's no Millwood) Scott Elarton --> Jason Johnson = STATUS QUO (both crappy #5 pitchers) Bob Wickman --> Bob Wickman = STATUS QUO (although fatboy had a career year in 2005 so it's most likely a downgrade) Losing Bob Howry = DOWNGRADE (great setup man in 2005) Signing Eduardo Perez to platoon with Ben Broussard at 1B = UPGRADE (Perez rakes lefties and that will save Broussard from facing them) Signing Danny Graves, Steve Karsay, Einar Diaz, Todd Hollansworth, and Lou Merloni to minor league contracts = UPGRADE (a bunch of washed-up bums that could possibly pan out for them)

You can't have a stud backup at every position. It just isn't feasible. Mackowiak and Borchard (I assume) will back up the outfield and Mackowiak or Gload could be used at first base in case one of Konerko or Thome gets injured. Having Mackowiak is nice because he can play almost every position and even hit a bit.

I'm pretty sure the idea was to acquire Griffey and use him as the full-time DH and #3 hitter. Rowand would have stayed in center field and Everett would have been used as a fourth outfielder. I seem to remember that Everett was hitting like crap at the time and that was a big reason we were pining for a #3 hitter.

Thome was already given #25 at the press conference. They just left Borchard without a number for the time being.

Yep, even with his bad jumps his speed was so good that he could make the plays anyways. But bad jumps, even with his great speed, would be a disaster in CF. I still can't believe he played CF for the Brewers. These stats don't rate their arms though. I'm sure Podsednik's arm would be among the worst in the MLB.

They may go after Derrek Lee after 2006 if the Cubs don't lock him up soon.

Griffey either needs to move to RF or get traded to an A.L. team to be a DH.
