QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) I think the comment about the popular vote is pretty sad and I would consider it a failure that American society has come to such a position. I mean we have 1/2 the voting age population that doesn't even vote anymore. And then the winning candidate gets one half of that remaining 50%. What a mandate! It is detrimental to the democratic Republic that so many people here don't vote especially in a time where people are being run over by tanks etc. simply to get the right to go and cast a meaningful ballot. The best thing you've ever said! By my count, that makes 3 times that we've agreed.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) The downside is our economy benefits from a great interstate road system. When a manufacturer in Boise needs to get a shipment to a distributor in Detroit, it all has to work together. As long as that is kept intact, I don't care how the money and oversite is divided up. You would be shifting the pork to a state level. You might have some wonderfully untravelled roads downstate while the Chicago suburbs get shafted, depending on the clout of the state reps. GOP = downstate projects DEM = Chicago I don't mind Federal money going to the Interstate system. It's needed. I have a problem with Federal money going to "Construction of County Road 17" in Elkhart, Indiana. http://www.taxpayer.net/Transportation/hr3database/INF.pdf

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) But we pay a federal road tax when we buy gasoline. We pay that tax wether we drive on interstate highways or not. Unless you are also proposing having the feds send that money to the state (and being from a huge ass state, I's agree) we are stuck with this system. Isn't it nice to see what our elected leaders can do when they work together? Yes. See, I think my Federal taxes should be minimum and my state taxes should be more.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) The sheer size of Texas is amazing. I can see them needing a lot more highway money than most states. See, I believe the states should only receive highway money for Federal Interstates.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) I am wondering if a key big of asphalt, the new I69 project that would link Laredo with Canada is among the projects. There are a couple much needed roadways down by me. The area has been in the five fastest growing sreas for the past 10 years without much new road construction. If it's "in the 5 fastest growing areas" it must be generating tax dollars. Why can't the state handle the road projects?

This really pisses me off. What pisses me off more is the voters won't remember this on election day. I had to laugh at this, though: I'm not a big McCain fan, but he just gained some points with me with his "no" vote.

Canada news is saying 0 fatalities. Awesome!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Honestly I am not sure of the origination of this. I tried to find it on snopes, but I couldn't, so then I googled it and found it. Some asshole was handing out around the office as a printed email. I was about ready to make a scene I was so pissed. Get out! Who is stupid enough to do that?

QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) Keep thinking that. Just making an observation.

I'm sure you'l, have a great time, Steff.

QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) You sit there thinking I'm against bench appointments in all cases. I'm not. This is a specific case with very specific details. This is not about whether or not John Bolton yelled at people. This is about whether or not John Bolton attempted to cook the intelligence books before our country entered a war. I don't know what country you live in, but in my book - if its true - that's a crime against this country, and definitely one that warrants investigation. Again, this is a nomination that didn't win in committee. I think its ridiculous for any president to stop progress on something for four months so he doesn't have to face the indignity of a vote for his nominee. Ever thought the reason he didn't turn over the documents was because he was afraid that Bolton wouldn't win a full up or down vote? Yes, specifically, George Bush made the appointment. That's all you needed to know.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) ScottPodRulez22 the post above should have been in green.. apologies. Like this: You're such a pain in the ass, Steff. Wait. Maybe not.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) That way he could have popped into a triple play instead.

How are they scoring runs with this "s*** lineup?"

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) Okay, sorry bud No sweat. It just got to be a little much. You weren't the only one, BTW.

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) Mora pops up to Konerko. Inning over. Top of 8th, 3-1 Sox. I'm out all, peace, and I mean that! Nice job. Thank you.

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Actually its much better than dealing with the idiots that come through drive that take all night to count chage, or ask stupid questions, like "are the buffalo tenders made from buffalo?" I thought this was the game thread?

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) The Cliff is in. hit someone. Yeah, that would be a brilliant move.
-
QUOTE(brijames @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) I can't believe any Sox fan who knows anything about the game would not be thrilled with what MB did today drilling one of theirs. They hit two of ours and you better damn well know were gonna hit one of theirs. MB earned a helluva lot of respect from his teammates today and this team became even closer because of what he did. Yeah. OK. :rolly

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) I feel sorry for some of you that do not know how to enjoy a baseball game ... and a winning team.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) When there's more than one scrub in the game, I refer to that as the s*** line-up. Besides, no reason Timo should be leading off with Ozuna behind him. Those two will see a maximum of 5 pitches between them. Ozuna just had a 9 pitch at bat.

It's been a while since I've read the game thread. Good to see some things never change. :rolly

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) Want to hear critical... oye ve.. the first time I met Bryan... I'm really into a conversation with him and I'm saying to myself "he's not so bad..." and Jim walks over and goes.. "So Steff.. is this the guy you say sucks..?" Keep in mind I had listened to Bryan maybe 3 times all year and not for more than 3 minutes each time. I was mortified... But Bryan understood. We had a history with Wills... I do listen to Bryan much more now and appreciate him - except when he reaches for that damn net.. . Ha! Classic! Was Jim drinking?

Great post idea, Steff! I've been thinking about creating the same thing for quite som time, but never did. I personally think when Bryan started he was very raw. He kept saying, "Chicago White Sox" every time he referred to the Sox, instead of "White Sox" or just "Sox." I don't know why this got to me, but it did. He's since become more comfortable in the position it seems. I still think at times he falls back into the "Sounds like he's reading a script" mode. But, like I said, he gets better everyday. I absolutely loved Wills, so I may be a bit too critical of "the new guy" at times, but I'm sure I'll miss Bryan if they don't carry him over to the Score. I probably listen to more games than I watch, so I want someone that that's easy to listen to. Bryan has gotten a lot easier.
