  1. Our # 5 starters have started a total of 20 games. Wright 12 Stewart 5 Porzio 3 Can someone from our crack research team come up with the team's record in these 20 games? I know from today's paper we are now 6-6 in Wright's 12 starts. Don't know about the other 8 starts, although we did win at least 2 of them. At the worst we are 8-12 in games started by our #5 starters. Not as bad as I thought it would be.
  2. How did the scouts from 30 teams miss this guy for 14 rounds?
  3. An expensive agent, not a free agent.
  4. Sounds like these youngsters just mentioned should be hitting the weight room with earnest this off-season. I still would like to know what kind of off season program these kids are on.
  5. Once his contract expires in SFO (don't know when) I bet a lot of AL teams will want him for DH.
  6. Now I read where the Sox don't expect him to accept reassignment. Daily Southtown, I believe. His agent is probably talking to the Cards.
  7. You have to be added to the 40 man roster before you are called up., so that's what you work with. Joe B for sure, Rivera, Hummel, Adkins. Question: When we send a player down for reassignment (Rios), is he still on the 40 man?
  8. Carlos is playing for a contract. (not a criticism)
  9. He'll probably go there in hopes of coming back and getting on the playoff roster, if we continue playing well.
  10. One down in the loss column still.
  11. Editors: Do we need this s***.
  12. I think Bonds will play for a loooooong time yet. He is fascinated with his own legacy, and he wants to break as many records as possible and put them out of reach. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get 900 homers. With the DH, he can play to age 45.
  13. He's helped our team speed, too.
  14. If the Sox hold onto a big lead in the 9th inning, do you think JM will bring in Rick White for his coup de grace?
  15. Does this mean that Georgey Porgey Steinbrenner will fire Bud Lite Selig?
  16. Danman, whenever I say something like that, he will inevitably get 2-3 hits, etc. Plus, he might be a little tired. He's no kid anymore and he's been playing every day. Just one hit in the last three games, tough righty on the mound (okay, not so tough), Konerko is too hot to bench, Daubach can use some AB's, blah, blah. Nothing wrong with giving him a day off on a road trip. But he is playing, so I hope he snaps out of it.
  17. Right, that's why I called it a cheap shot. Carl Everett is hardly the reason the Rangers are 90 games out of first.
  18. We'll probably catch Lima next week.
  19. I would give him the night off tonight.
  20. ESPN just took a cheap shot at Carl. They were doing this piece on A-Rod and talking about all the mistakes the Rangers made after acquiring ARod. Rocker was the first mentioned, the second was the signing of Everett.
  21. Will we get any juicy quotes from White if he is released?
  22. I'm getting the feeling that Jose will be with us next year. The Sox will no doubt make sure that he gets less than 577 plate appearances so that the $5MM option doesn't kick in, but I think he'll be here next year.
  23. I bet every division winner in the last 20 years has been swept by another team. That's probably what KC is telling themselves. We have to play well in Seattle and finish them off next week in Chi.
  24. Whenever I hear stupid comments from a ballplayer, and I think White's comments from the other day fall into that category, I always wonder if maybe he wasn't egged on a bit by a sportswriter. You know they do it all the time. A leading question here, a leading suggestion there, and all of a sudden the player says something with a little bite to it, and the writer is turning his laptop on. Two examples: One, years ago, there was a second string quarterback in Denver named Gary Kubiak. Played behind Elway, and they were the best of friends. Believe me, Kubiak knew his place in the food chain. So some writer is doing a long, long interview with Kubiak about many subjects, but he kept dwelling on his second string status. Finally, Kubiak said something like, "Sure, I like to play." Next day had headlines screaming about Kubiak's dissatisfaction with his status, which could not be further from the truth. Kubiak was embarrassed. Another was the famous John Rocker incident. Now, I am NOT going to defend Rocker, but that interview was supposed to have lasted over four hours. During the hullabaloo that followed, one of Rocker's teammates profoundly said, "if you interview me for a solid four hours, I'll probably say something stupid, too." It's the stupid part of the interview that gets printed. So when White or any other jock gets quoted for saying something stupid, I take it with a grain of salt. Having said that, I hope Wright replaces him on the roster Saturday.
