I feel dumber just reading these stories about Baker.

That is one more testamonial to brilliant GM's. Giving Appier a guaranteed $12 MM in 2004 at his age??? That is insane. It is total incompetence. There are stories like this all over baseball. General Managers must take stupid pills. How can an agent even ask for that with a straight face, and then some unnamed GM says, "Okay, it's not my money. Do you want more?" The Appier story does not top the Denny Neagle or Mike Hampton sagas, but it's pretty close.

How many years does Lofton have left? I think he'll be around a while, but I'm not sure why. But he did hit one out today.

In today's Cub game Mordeci Alfonseca came in to pitch the 8th and 9th innings, and gave up a run in each inning. Baker took him out with two outs in the 9th. The crowd booed him both on the way in and on the way out. One of the announcers said that there has been some banter between Baker and the fans for all the booing. First I heard of it. Have you guys in the big city heard much about Baker's complaining about the booing? Tks.

Right. If you want to bring up Cotts, someone has to go -- most likely White. He gets expunged from the 40 man roster faster than you can ask, "What's my role?"

I saw White last year in Colorado. Lots of line drives. I doubt if we could trade him, because most teams know there is a good chance we will cut him, so they can get him for free.

Of course an off day means the # 5 guy gets bumped. Who are you going to bump, Loaiza?

This is a really big game tonight. On Thursday we will have a well rested ACE (Loaiza) ready to close the series. So we win tonight, everyone on both teams will be thinking "sweep."

We have several outfielders at Kanny who are not hitting particularly well. Nanita needs to move up.

If there are no trades and we bring in Wright for Saturday's start in Seattle, who goes down? And if the Sox decide on Wright, They almost have to fly him to Seattle by Thursday just to get over the jet lag. I think it means the "R" word for Rick White. That's why we should offer him to the Cards for a song, just to get rid of part of his salary. Of course, if there is a big trade tonight, all of this is meaningless.

Nanita's sustained performance has already exceeded a "hot or lucky" streak. Plus, he had pretty good college credentials. Obviously, I haven't seen him, but the kid can play, and I hope the Sox move him up as quickly as they did with Reed, who went straight to Kannapolis, I believe. Reed bypassed the Rookie League.

Adkins should be a candidate for the 5th starter. He probably won't be ready for next Sat, but it's better than giving up 3 more prospects for just a few starts. Plus, Adkins is on the 40 man roster.

Regarding Stumm, the next big decision on him is whether to put him on the 40 man roster this off season, otherwise someone will pick him up.

Why did JM bring in White? This is a big series; we can't be f***ing around with a lead. Or, would JM have brought him in if White had not shot his mouth off? Just giving him a chance to put up or shut up? JM should not be bringing White in for a while. So then we have a 23 man roster.
