QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) Wouldn't Mitchell at #1 be the best possible scenario? Either one works fine as long as they play good D in CF and get on base and steal some too.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) I don't expect Beckham to hit more than 20-25 homers in a year, but I think he can still be an effective #3 hitter if we try to go away from the long ball. As long as we are playing regularly at U.S. Cellular Field and have Kenny Williams as a GM, we'll still be a power-centered lineup. I will say though, that Beckham batting 3rd with big boppers 4-5-6 would bring a nice balance provided we have 1-2 and 8-9 hitters that can get on base. My best case scenario in 3 years is Danks/Beckham/Quentin 1-2-3.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) Therefore we shouldn't bother playing it or talking about it. Get real. The rest of the world would be better off.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Beck just seems like a prototypical #2 hitter. At this point, yes. I've been comparing him offensively to Derek Jeter in his prime for a while now.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) If Beckham develops how fathom believes he will, he will be a stud, XBH, 25+ homer 3 hole hitter. If Beckham develops to how I believe he will, he will be a stud, gap to gap, disciplined, 2 hole hitter. As much as I love Beckham, I don't see him developing into a 25+ homer guy ever. It's possible, but I'd much rather have him hitting .300 with 20 HR and 80-100 RBI a year with a high OBP.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Trading Jordan Danks still causes major league difficulties. We have to hold him and give him a shot unless we're dealing both Danks. I'd be willing to part with Floyd in a Haren deal. But really...not much more than Floyd. Dealing Floyd pretty much defeats the purpose of adding Haren.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Mets? Never had a no-hitter.
-
I'd move ANYTHING we have in the minors for Dan Haren. Richard and/or Torres as well. And any RP not named Thornton.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Beckham has a slightly higher OBP than Alexei, and a decent chunk of that is where their batting averages currently sit (beckham's is slightly higher but is trending down). Beckham is taking 1 walk per 10 AB's, Alexei's taking 1 walk per 11.5 AB's this year. Long Term, I want Beckham hitting 3rd. For now, Alexei in the 2 hole works for me. Alexei's #'s since he moved in to the 2 hole are even better. Higher OBP in that spot than Beckham. Exact same walk rate as Beckham since he moved in to the 2 spot. Are you seriously saying that you think Alexei is a better 2 hitter than Beckham?

ANOTHER liner caught.

I never understood why players don't stand on 1st and wait for balls in the dirt. If you're looking for it and jump to 2nd the second it hits the dirt, most of the time you'll be in safe at 2nd. Valentin used to be the man at that.

Nice job Pods.

Nice job Gordo.

Am I the only one who thinks Verlander did not pitch well at all? We totally let him off the hook.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Classy, very classy. Don't be a snob because you have some European heritage, c'mon dude. Has nothing to do with European heritage, this country is soccer challenged.

QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) I am sorry folks but I lost a lot of respect for MB after learning that he has a passion for hunting. http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2007/09/24/mark-bu...ear-with-a-bow/ Are you serious? That makes me love him even more. Millions of people hunt in the US. Dye, Thome, and Pierzsynski included. GMAB. How did you not know he hunted in the first place?

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) Mark is going to have to get 250 wins to even be in the discussion, IMO. Let's say he pitched 6 more years and averages 12 wins a season (a conservative number IMO), that puts him at 205. I think 225+ gets him in.

Listen to the announcers. Every ball is drilled, ripped, smashed, etc. But nothing to show for. But to be fair, Rose and Grace suck.

First pitch swinging FTL.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Yep, it's been very annoying so far. The walk with the bases loaded was so predictable, as well as the big inning in the first today after the pathetic 3-2 call by the umpire. We've really been shafted by the umpires lately as well.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) I missed the day game yesterday, were there a lot? The night game didn't have too many after the 3rd. That was the worst game of the 3 so far. Verlander could have been on the hook if half those balls drop. Part of the reason Verlander only had like 20 pitches in the 5th, 6th, and 7th was because we nailed everything he threw but we couldn't catch a break and have any drop. Yet every f***ing run the Tigers scored was on a bloop over a glove or down the lines. This series has been horrible.

It's ridiculous how many balls we've hit hard right at people so far this series.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) So any thoughts on the whole Beckham situation? Is he in the right or the fans in LA on this one? The United States should just be banned from talking about or being involved in anything that has to do with soccer. I'm so tired of this s***. That's what they deserve for paying him 250 million thinking he can make it popular in the US. If the Galaxy went out and signed Messi right now, I wouldn't give 2 s***s because the MLS is a joke. And anyone who is blaming Beckham for "taking up soccer" is ridiculous. What was he supposed to say? That he didn't want to be there and that the United States is retarded for not liking soccer? Give me a break. It was a stupid move by the MLS and by Beckham. But at least Beckham got paid.
