QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Thanks for the advice. I actually go to U of I Champaign, I havent updated my profile. Some cafeterias are healthier, like for lunch i went to a different one and I had baked chicken which I added sliced tomato on top of, with green beans on the side, a banana and a side salad. Healthy yet alot of food so Im still full from it. The trouble is that the dorm I live at is really unhealthy, and I just dont have time to go 20 mins each way to a healthier dorm alot of times. My family is big, so we have changed lifestyles to help, so wheat bread is basically a staple of mine for when I have sandwiches now, and I like turkey but I need variety sometimes so thats what makes it hard. And Grand Valley is so much healthier than U of I, my girlfriend goes there and I went up to visit for the first couple days of your semester to help her move into her honors apartment, and the food we had was really good and healthy. Much more fresh when it came to veggies and fruit, plus they had real dinner options like oven baked turkey, something my dorm never has. Although my dorm cafeteria is brand new, its awful. They go on a weekly routine for food, so every station is the same week in and week out. And none of it is really healthy, and the little that is is overeaten because its a weekly routine. Where did you go when you came up to GV? Kleiner is generally very unhealthy, but they have a sandwich place and a lot of salad options. Fresh Foods is always good, and far healthier, but it's buffet-style, so that can be an issue lol. There's also a salad place and Subway under Kirkhoff, so I suppose you're right.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 02:19 AM) So, here I am at college and Im wasting away all my hardwork from my senior year of high school. Im back up to 220 ish, and I want to be around 200, although thats not important as long as i look good and feel better. Basically, I live in the dorms, and everything is fried. The fresh fruit is not good, like its plastic and tasteless. They never have just cooked vegetables, just fried if any. And they have very few healthy options besides that. Anybody got ideas for healthy eating besides salads? I can deal with a salad for lunch/dinner a couple times a week, or as a side dish every meal, but it cant be the only thing i eat, i need more. I have a very large appetite so that doesnt help. They have a deli and salad bar, any sandwich ideas or different types of salads to atleast mix it up? Or meals created from the usual salad bar/deli section? Besides those they have a mexican buffet, american foods, pizza, and a mongolian bbq place (they use alot of oil there). Thanks for all the advice guys. You're a UofM student I assume, since you're in Ann Arbor. I know how it goes buddy, I go to Grand Valley... Anyway, sandwiches are probably your best bet to keep a leaner diet that can still fill you up. Get honey oat or wheat instead of white if you can. Turkey/chicken will give you the most protein from he meats available, but roast beef or ham aren't bad either. Try to lay off the mayo if possible and opt for something lighter. Piling up the veggies helps too. PB&J is always good too...lots of protein. And drink tons of water. It's absolutely necessary.

I'm down 4 pounds the last 2 weeks, gonna have to slow down on the weekend cheating that's for sure, but I can definitely see some results in the mirror. I even had someone ask if I had lost some wait the other day, so that's always encouraging as well. I went grocery shopping tonight before I hit the gym and got some fruits (kiwi, bananas, blueberries, apples) and veggies (carrots, beans, peas, corn) as well as some other stuff. I've switched to wheat bread from white, and I also got a couple boxes of those Fiber One energy bars. Got Oats/Chocolate and Oats/Apple Streusel, and they are delicious! I had one after my workout tonight.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) If Griffey is actually "suspected" of anything, (can't believe I'm actually seeing this stuff posted with my own eyes) then that means you would also include Frank in that group considering they were both the biggest backers against any enhancing drug use since the mid 90's. Hell, Pujols is probably the most secretive user back in the early 2000s, but of course he's getting praised, even though he's a tremendous player. I will say this again.. when/where/how did all the Bonds love come all of a sudden? Where were you guys one/two years ago? I've been one of Bonds' biggest supporters for a LONG time. You can ask Wite about that.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) Ok. I have stuff all the way back to 1968. Thats impressive. I'm not THAT hardcore. It started off as a collection of cars that I liked and enjoyed the beauty of, then it was hard core I want all the old s*** for a while, and then it died down. I didn't have the money to buy them all the time when I was 14 lol.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Yes, yes I know. edit: Before I reply to any more posts like this, do people really think I'm saying Bonds was not a legit all-time power hitter or something pre-roids? Well, when you say that all of Bond's numbers are inflated because of PED's, it's just not true. You're essentially saying his OBP in 1994 was because of steroids.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) How old, what types? I have an incredible collection of Mustangs and Chevelles, some Last Runs, some First Editions. I haven't gone through them in forever but I know I have a bunch from 1996.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) Yeah I know, at that point Bonds was a leadoff hitter IIRC and Griffey was a #3 hitter. I'm just saying if Griffey's #'s had been steroid-inflated he would have these video game-esque OBPs that Bonds was putting up too. He was leading off with PITT, yes, but he was also driving in 100+ and hitting 30+ HR's. Then he went o SF and hit 5th for 2 years and then 3rd.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) It's easy to be patient when the pitchers are throwing you nothing but trash because they know you're slugging in the 700s (thanks to the PEDs) and they're just terrified of you. His OBP before all the steroid crap was still anywhere from .400 to .460.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) Me too! Whatcha got? A ton. They're back at home in Chicago though.

But that's only on special occasions. That is the BEST video I have ever seen. Oh man.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Were you not around for MJ or something? I'm no NBA fan, but, zero doubt in my mind that Jordan was more dominant in his sport than any, in any other major sport, in the past few decades. Simply put, Bonds didn't change the game of baseball. Jordan sure as hell did. It's actually a pretty good argument and more similar than you'd think. How many times did Bonds get intentionally walked out of pure fear that he'd launch one? How many times did he get unintentionally intentionally walked when teams had to pitch around him. Jordan was similar, as teams really had to gameplan around him, and Bonds is quite similar.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Oh I completely agree, but I just wish we could have seen what Bonds would have done had he never touched steroids. He obviously would have never hit 73 home runs or broke the all time home run record, but he'd still be a guy with 600 something home runs in all likelihood to go with all of the walks, steals, gold gloves, and MVP's. He cheated himself using the stuff because he didn't need it. Yup. It's a shame that steroids cloud will always be surrounding him, because he, Griffey, and Frank are my 3 favorite players of all time.

I still collect Hot Wheels for the most part.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) He's the ONLY steroid-related player I would vote for. I hate him for what he did in the 2000's, but he'd have been a hall of famer no doubt had he never touched the stuff, and he's the only guy I can for sure say that about. Exactly. Sosa and McGwire are probably not that good without steroids. Bonds was already a Hall of Famer.

Gaelic Football GAA Fried Spam sandwich with Mayo ( the mystery meat ) Liver Sausage with butter on bread OMG....spam and liver sausage spread are amazing!

Steroids don't improve your vision and make you judge the strike zone better. Steroids don't improve the likelihood of you making contact with a baseball.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Apparently a lot of people hate Carlos Mencia, so I'll toss him into this thread cuz I like him I used to like him as well. His older stand up was phenomenal, and anything with the retarded voice was great. Too many questions over stolen jokes and stuff for my taste. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) This isn't me trying to start an argument, but how can anybody like Barry Bonds? I'm legitimately curious as to the reasons, because I can't think of any. I respect what he did, even before any of the steroid accusations. He's an incredible baseball player who showed uncanny strike zone ability and is quite possibly the epitome (in his prime) of a 5 tool player. He really enthralled me in his home run chase with his majestic bombs. IMO, he's the greatest hitter of all time. He did something that McGwire and Sosa couldn't do for me. His 756th home run was something I will never forget and something I was proud to see happen.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) The Hills Ugh. I do like Barry Bonds though, a lot. Other things... fishing/hunting ketchup/relish on a hot dog the real football (soccer) the movie Secret Window George Lopez/Katt Williams I also used to like Dane Cook a lot, but he sucks now.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) It's an entirely different genre/form and really shouldn't be evaluated the same way. That said, many of today's hip-hop artists (especially in rap) really blow ass and are an embarrassment. Agreed. IMO, good hip-hop/rap music is the hardest to make. People will always argue that they sample something, loop it, and make rhymes about hoes, jewelry, cars, and drugs...but I said GOOD rap.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Except the NBA is much different in the sense that the extended season (ie, tournaments) won't impact there future days unless they are battling an injury. Where as in baseball, pitchers are a very unique position which couldn't handle a ton of additional work. It would be like there being an international football tournament after months of rest. You just couldn't do it and have it be that great (this is besides the fact that football is pretty much US only). Plus it's much easier to have a team of 10-13 guys travel and practice together since basketball players don't have the extended off-seasons that baseball players due (due to the grueling nature of the baseball season). Your post doesn't make any sense. First of... NBA off-season = May if out of playoffs, June, July, August, September, Pre-Season in October MLB off-season = October if out of playoffs, November, December, January, Spring Training in February and March Second, the extended season for basketball won't impact their future playing days, where as it would in football? I suppose NBA players don't get a tad out of shape in the off-season? Third, "a ton of additional work" for pitchers, eh? 6 whole innings over the course of 3 weeks? God forbid John Danks would throw 2 innings a week in March. That could kill his arm!
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) What makes it king....the fact that 98% of the best players in the world all play in that domestic league. Thats what makes it king. You could argue the same thing about the NBA and about soccer.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) You nailed it with one word. This was a Bud Selig invention. The owners are not going to allow the season to be interupted for this, so it it either has to occur right after the Series or before/during spring training. If it happens after the Series, no one pay attention at all, therefore it happens in the early spring. Which, because guys are rusty and pitchers' arms aren't ready, leaves something to be desired in terms of quality baseball. That's why this thing is a farce and I won't lose one minute sleep about the results. Apparently you didn't read my earlier post about the timing of other international events.
