  1. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) My argument is simple: what has Thome provided, seeing that he is supposedly the "upgrade"? Yeah I like watching his HR bombs too. What else has he provided? Those slap hits? Baserunning? His Go-Go White Sox attitude and clubhouse leadership? I'm not even slamming him. I'm telling some of you to open your eyes. Are you kidding me? You want Thome to be a slap hitter? How about you factor in just how s***ty the White Sox pitching staff was in 2006 into this equation... If the 2006 White Sox pitchers pitched anywhere near their career averages, the White Sox probably win 100 games. Our lowest starters ERA was 4.27.
  2. The one thing I don't like about KW is his seemingly half-ass job this past off-season. Following the McCarthy and Garcia deals, I was pretty much ready for the rebuilding stage, and it excited me a bit. I don't like this in-the-middle thing he is trying to go with because it's clearly not working. Either go for it and make a spash or just go to the young people. If you're going to stay on the fence, then at least put a contender on the field. Re-signing Pods was terrible. IMHO, we should have done it this past offseason. We could have got great value for Dye and Crede, and with the way Buehrle is pitching, we will get great value for him at the trade deadline. Unfortunately, our offense is s*** right now and the pitching is just going to waste. Put a young team out there with a lot of talent, get some veterans in there to help them in the process, and hire some coaches who are fundamental.
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) The only creepy part of The Ring was the little girl climbing out of the well and coming towards the screen, the rest was silly. The Grudge was a joke. My thoughts exactly. Most horror films of the day have lost the element of surprise and suspense. You see things coming in almost every movie.
  4. First off, I never even got into the Batman series although I had seen them all, until I saw Batman Begins. Christian Bale is just such a great damn actor, and like Kalapse said, you get the feeling that he really is a super hero based on his appearance and behavior. He's just a badass. Nothing about Michael Keaton says super hero to me. The man played Jack Frost. As for the casting, I think they picked really good people to play all the roles, except for Katie Holmes maybe, because she's just terrible. But I absolutely loved Michael Caine as Alfred and Morgan Freeman as Lucious. Jury is still out on how Ledger and Gyllenhaal do. Batman Begins recaptured the true essence of the Batman series, and I can't wait for the Dark Knight. I really hope that the revivals of movie series continue on with Dark Knight and with the upcoming Halloween movie by Rob Zombie.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:57 PM) Dye for Abreu would be a lateral move (at best). We'd be better off trading Dye for a top prospect... Something only Sox fans think is possible.
  6. Dye's numbers aren't even as good as Abreu's, outside of HR and SLG. Abreu would help our lineup a bit. He's a guy who can draw the walk and usually get on base at a pretty good clip, unlike the sub-.300 OBP of Dye. Abreu can run the bases pretty damn well too and could use a change of scenery. You really have to take a player's nubers with the Yankee's with a grain of salt, considering the amount of BS with the fans and media and the expectations put on them. They're the same age, the only drawback, albeit a pretty big one, is Abreu's ginormous contract, but there is no doubt if the deal is made that the Yankees will take a big chunk of it.
  7. My bold prediction: At some point in this game, Abreu and Dye are going to switch dugouts and jerseys.
  8. QUOTE(pale_hose @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) Charlie O' Brien...he had a sweet mullet I'll never forget that hideous gray catcher's equipment he used to wear. Also invented with the new hockey-style catcher's masks.
  9. Like RME JICO said, Carlos Lee and Magglio Ordonez can lead all the stat categories they want, they don't have a World Series trophy.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:11 AM) Except you're talking about the White Sox here, not the Cubs. KW will not overpay for mediocre starting pitching. Oh, and I'd like to congratulate Lopez on being just terrific in his first 4 starts in this National League. And I'm sure all his elbow issues will simply disappear as the season goes on. Ok, relax. You don't like Rodrigo Lopez. We get it. These are just hypothetical that we're throwing out here. I'm sure I could come up with something more detailed and closer to realistic ideals with payroll and such if I really looked into it.
  11. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) I doubt it. Especially in this day and age with teams. Some idiot organization would need pitching help badly so I'm almost positive that he'll be making 5+ unless he gets no offers for a starter and is offered a bullpen role. He was pretty damn good up until his injury. And with the rate of pitching, he'll get his money. Marquis got 7 million for a 6.02 era.
  12. Lopez is making 4.3 million now, so he would be somewhere around 5.5-6 I would guess. And we would also add Linebrink to the bullpen so chalk that up as another 4 million or so. Considering influx on the contracts of Eckstein and Rowand, I'd guess we'll be around 90 million next year. I don't know about the rest. Maybe we go out and try to get Jones or re-sign Buehrle in this scenario.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) That team might not win 50 games. But they would grind day and night baby!
  14. C- A. Pierzynski 1B- P. Konerko 2B- D. Eckstein SS- J. Uribe 3B- J. Fields LF- D. Erstad CF- A. Rowand RF- R. Sweeney DH- J. Thome SP- J. Garland SP- R. Lopez SP- J. Danks SP- J. Vazquez SP- G. Gonzalez Additions: David Eckstein, Cardinals Aaron Rowand, Phillies Rodrigo Lopez, Rockies Subtractions: Joe Crede Mark Buehrle Jose Contreras Jermaine Dye Scott Podsednik
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) Robles sounds like another 90 mph fastball type guy....pass Frazier seems like he could be a good fit, but does he project to be a light hitting middle infielder? Piranha light hitting? Or Royce Clayton light hitting?
  16. We need middle infielders, badly. Like BearSox said, we've got a few good pitching arms, but we really have no one in the middle infield that has done much.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) are you kidding me... I am one of the biggest PK fans, and it was obvious even though they didn't show the whole thing. If he fell out of pain, you would be able to tell. He'd would have likely pulled his best Erstad impersonation. That fall reminded me of a couple years ago where when he was struggling, he just missed a granny vs. the DRays, and after he rounded first, he fell flat on his face. And the first fall wasn't anything out of the ordinary also. I think everyone who's played baseball has taken awful off-balance swings like that before. Also, PK is more durable then that. Listen, PK's been my favorite since 98 or 99 or whenever the hell that was, and I've been a Sox fan all my life, but sometimes you gotta sit back and instead of wipping the remote through the tv, you gotta laugh it off. Uuum, ok.

    LMAO

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) Why? It was obviously a stumble. He fell the first time because he was horribly off-balance and the ball hit off of him. And when he was running to first, he was doing little short strides and tripped over his own foot (been there, done that... sadly). I didn't see him running, I just saw him as he fell, and it scared the s*** out of me. Anyone who just sat there and laughed is pretty ridiculous, unless they saw him running the whole time and saw him trip on himself, which, from the replay, I don't think is possible.

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) Blow the whole team up. I'm sick of it all. They are embarassing. I wan't KW gone, Ozzie gone, Cooper and Walker should have been gone along time ago. Just rebuild the whole team. It would be more entertaining watching a bunch of kids play hard, than these overpaid assholes. Rebuild the whole f***ing team, including the minor league system. Calm down. You're overreacting. While I do agree with you about Walker, there is no way we could fire Cooper, especially the way the starters have been doing. He can tell them and work with them all he wants, but he isn't the guy coming out of the bullpen and sucking it up out there. Walker, on the other hand, has no reason to still have a job right now. None of the player's approaches have changed. He'll probably mess up Owens and the rest of them too.

    LMAO

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) No, it's funny. Something this bad and pathetic has to be laughed at. I can't be the only who bursted out in laughter when Konerko fell on his way to 1st. Are you kidding me? I think my heart skipped a few beats.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:09 AM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=51700 That's the thread from last year, not Backman's.
  22. A hit against the opposing team's bullpen? Haha. What next, they come back and win?
  23. Their heads would simultaneously explode.
