QUOTE (soxman352000 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) Why does anyone celebrate Valentines Day? It's such a pointless holiday. You celebrate Valentines Day so that your spouse/girlfriend reciprocates and honors Steak and BJ Day a month later.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:03 AM) now, when you say boil low... It's really easy to burn all that sugar, and for a straight simple syrup you don't want to caramelize the sugars. Stir on medium heat until the syrup begins to boil and then reduce heat so it's just boiling, let it go for 10 minutes stirring occasionally, and the sugar will be well dissolved and woun't come out of suspension and crystalize as the bottle sits. I make cinamon and dark sugar and ginger-infused simple syrups the same way, and also use the simple sugar as the sugar base for homemade falernum, allspice liqueur, etc. cheap and easy.

QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:16 PM) murphy's has the best burger in town ( on green st) legend's has a great fish sandwich (also on green st) Murphy's for cheeseburgers and Guinness. I assume Legend's is what DeLuxe turned into and the fish sandwich is their original recipe. If so, it is one of the best fish sandwiches you'll ever have. Totally surprised nobody has told you to make sure you get out to Chester Street.

"If I was going to storm a pill box, going to sheer, utter, certain death, and the colonel said, 'Shepherd, pick six guys,' I'd pick six White Sox fans, because they have known death every day of their lives and it holds no terror for them" — Jean Shepherd, writer, humorist, White Sox poet laureate

QUOTE (Nixon @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) According to the conference calls the parks east of the Mississippi will continue to operate as is. Meaning Marvel characters will probably get some play in Disney in Ca. Whatever money Marvel was earning out of these agreements go to Disney but Disney can't break these deals. Fox & Sony still own the rights to the movies they're currently producing, from an article I read there will be one more movie after The Avengers. Pixar is already working on a movie based on John Carter of Mars and apparently there's something else that's in the pipeline. I am f***ing stoked. The Wolverine/Xmen licenses can't be free of Fox soon enough for me. Andrew Stanton is directing John Carter, but he's doing it for Disney and not Pixar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carter_of_Mars_(film) Also, the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate owned the rights not, marvel, and Disney acquired them from the estate in 2007. John Carter, like Tarzan, i interesting in that both Marvel and DC had characters from those universes in their comics. DC's John Carter connection was almost exclusively the inclusion of Tars Tarkis in the Legion of Superheroes universe, but I still always found that interesting. As for the Disney/Marvel deal, I don't like it but I understand it from a financial standpoint for both sides.
